00:00I always have to have a drink.
00:01Meanwhile, I'm telling my girls,
00:02yeah, you guys can watch it.
00:03Yeah, you should watch it.
00:03This is just my life, and this is very normal for me.
00:07She used to leave the weights everywhere.
00:08No, I like to leave them in the dust.
00:10Ten years this year of interviewing you, Duane.
00:13Ten years.
00:14Wow.
00:14We're nine. We're at nine.
00:15Oh, got it.
00:16So next year we'll celebrate.
00:16But ten years watching you evolve to do something like this
00:20is so incredible.
00:22So congratulations to both of you.
00:24I'm curious, did your...
00:25I already know that you two are close,
00:27but did you find that your friendship did evolve
00:30doing this film anyway?
00:32I think so, because I think we were so used to
00:34kind of giving each other shit
00:35and just sort of having this very jokey relationship,
00:39and then I think we had to kind of carve out new space
00:44for this film because we knew we'd have to go
00:47to some really dark, intense places.
00:49I mean, we've always been great friends,
00:52and we've shared a lot of our past, our history,
00:55and, like, we know a lot about each other.
00:58So I think, for me, I always knew that DJ had this
01:02very profound upbringing, struggle, some hardships,
01:09like a lot of stuff he's had to sort of, like, encase
01:12and be this image of invincibility for the world.
01:15And so I was always sort of hoping he'd get to play
01:18something more vulnerable.
01:19And when this came along, it was just the most incredible gift.
01:23And then the fact that Benny wanted me to do it with him,
01:26it was just magic.
01:27Yeah.
01:27It was awesome.
01:28You realize that in order to go to the places
01:32that we had to go for this, that were intense and raw,
01:35and that was new for me, but it was also very exciting
01:40because I grew up an only child.
01:42I keep all my, like a lot of guys,
01:44we keep all our shit in here.
01:45It's not that healthy.
01:47So this opportunity to rip myself open
01:50and to transform and to become somebody else,
01:53truly, in their skin, was the thing I ran to.
01:57But the thing, as I run to it, to have her there,
02:03like, hey, I got you,
02:04and we're going to trust each other on this,
02:07and, you know, we're going to jump off the cliff together,
02:11but we got each other.
02:12So I feel like the fact that we are such great friends
02:16just helped because the places we went, you know,
02:20it's like, and I realized,
02:23because it was like a baptism by fire for me,
02:25that I didn't have to look over my back or over my shoulder.
02:28Like, I just knew we have a language, you know,
02:30even without talking, like, hey,
02:32I know what you're going to say,
02:33or you're going to get just things like that.
02:35So that really helped, too.
02:36We do see Mark and Dawn trained together in this.
02:40So I'm curious, Emily, have you ever done any of Dwayne's workouts at all?
02:43Yeah, in my gym.
02:44Oh, my God, I like...
02:45She used to leave the weights everywhere.
02:46No, I like to leave them in the dust, honestly.
02:48It's like, no.
02:50I mean, he would always know when I'd been in the gym
02:52because my tiny little three-pounders were sort of scattered around the gym,
02:56and I never cleaned up.
02:57I don't know why.
02:59Bad gym etiquette.
03:00Bad gym etiquette.
03:01So I stuck to my Pilates machine on this one.
03:04And he had his gym, and I think I probably used it once.
03:08Once, yeah.
03:09Hey, listen, it served you well.
03:10Killing it.
03:10Killing it.
03:11Thank you very much.
03:12How does it feel making a film like this
03:14when you've probably spent so much time telling your own kids not to fight?
03:18Like, they're going to be like,
03:19well, Daddy's fighting, and Mommy's supporting him.
03:22But, like, what's it like?
03:25Well, they won't be watching this until they're 50.
03:27But, um, to see their mother being so, um, volatile in it.
03:32But, um...
03:33Meanwhile, I'm telling my girls,
03:35yeah, you guys can watch it.
03:36Then we'll watch Squid Game.
03:38They did watch the trailer.
03:40They did.
03:40They did.
03:41They were rocked by the trailer.
03:42Ah.
03:42They were curious.
03:43They really wanted to watch it.
03:45Your girl wanted to watch it.
03:45Yes.
03:46Oh, yes.
03:47And they wanted to watch it.
03:48And they were really, they were taken aback by it, you know?
03:53Yeah.
03:54Well, I think we all are.
03:55For sure.
03:55Yeah.
03:55Like, it's pretty special what you've been able to do.
03:58But we hear Mark saying this.
04:00There's no better feeling than winning.
04:03And while winning is great,
04:05I do believe there are better feelings.
04:07So, for you, what do you,
04:08what would you say is a feeling that is better than winning?
04:11Peace.
04:12Mm.
04:12Oh.
04:13I like that feeling.
04:14Do you get much of it with having kids around?
04:16I find it, you know.
04:18But that's quite peaceful for me, actually.
04:20I mean, that's, like, that's a peaceful place to be,
04:23like, at home, the school run, the normalcy is peaceful for me.
04:29We were laughing, Benny and I, the other day about when you do a red carpet.
04:32And Benny was kind of saying how overwhelming it is.
04:35And I said, it is.
04:36And the other thing you realize is that you have to adopt this kind of persona of,
04:40like, this is just my life.
04:42And this is very normal for me, you know.
04:44And it's not, and it never is.
04:46Yeah.
04:47And before I get out to do a red carpet, I'm like that every time.
04:50I always have to have a drink, a bit of Dutch courage, and then we do it.
04:55But so I think peace does mean normalcy, actually.
04:58That's a good feeling.
05:00That's a good feeling.
05:00I like that, too.
05:01It's peace.
05:02It's also, like, those simple core things that you really look forward to.
05:06You know, life is wild and crazy and noisy for everybody, us, you, everybody.
05:11It's like the, you know, treadmill is nonstop of life.
05:14But it's nice to find those moments where you're just doing the simple core stuff.
05:18Yeah.
05:19You're at peace, you're at home, you're babies, and quiet.
05:23I like, if I could find my mornings, she knows this.
05:26Like, I get up before the sun and just go sit outside and meditate and breathe and quiet and still.
05:32It anchors my day.
05:33I love it.
05:33But listen, winning is a great feeling.
05:35And I'm sure that there's going to be, you know, wins coming your way with this film.
05:42Because, listen, I'm not saying anything about what they will be.
05:46But I would like to see it happen.
05:51It's so lovely to see you both.
05:52Thank you so much.
05:53Genuinely, great job.
