00:00Sofia Vergara created a modern family of her own when she welcomed her only child, Manolo

00:05Gonzalez Vergara, at 19 and brought him to America by herself. The duo chats with us weekly

00:11about their unconventional life and exciting new culinary venture in this week's cover story.

00:15Sofia was just 19 when she welcomed her son with high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez in

00:20Colombia. By 24, she was single and moved to Miami with Manolo in search of bigger opportunities.

00:25She told us it was super hard. There are things that as a young person you're not supposed to be

00:31thinking about. It's a lot of pressure and you're trying to figure out your own life.

00:35They eventually landed in LA where she scored her breakout role on Modern Family in 2009. For

00:41Manolo, it was a childhood like no other. He told us it was awesome and weird and cool. It's the only

00:47life I know and I wouldn't change a thing. Now, in addition to launching their Latin culinary brand

00:52Toma, Manolo joins Sofia's Latin world entertainment talent management firm. And while working together

00:57comes easy, life leading up to this point was sometimes full of challenges and surprises.

01:02Sofia tells us, you feel guilty because you can't be available all the time. I had to travel a lot

01:07because of the entertainment business. It wasn't like an office nine to five job. Every month was a

01:13different schedule. That's difficult because you miss birthdays and school things. As for having Sofia as

01:18a mom, he tells us it was fun. She was the best. I don't know how else to describe it. It's the only

01:24life I know. Sofia added, sometimes when I'd go to talk to the teachers in school, he'd tell me to

01:29dress like a mom. We were living in Miami and I would always be in a bathing suit with shorts.

01:34Manolo grew up on set saying Modern Family holds the most special place in all of our hearts. It was

01:3911 years. And despite growing up with the glitz and the glamour, Sofia says that Manolo is not

01:44entitled and spoiled saying he knows he has to work and he wants to do his own thing. And he lives his

01:50own life without expecting other people to fix every problem for him. Now their culinary brand

01:55plus work on America's Got Talent is keeping Sofia very busy. And she tells us she's not really looking

02:00for anything right now in terms of love after her divorce from ex Joe Manganiello. She tells us,

02:06eventually I'd like to have someone who's in tune with what I do and my age. I can be picky

02:11because I'm not in a hurry.
