00:00When you imagine skyscrapers, your mind no doubt conjures images of New York City or Chicago,
00:04but perhaps not for long. That's because a new American record for tallest building
00:08is currently in the works, and it's said to be built in an unexpected city.
00:13This is Oklahoma City, which doesn't have much of a skyline. However, the city of 700,000 people
00:18could soon be home to a skyscraper which eclipses all other buildings in the area,
00:23standing 1,907 feet tall. The tallest structure there at the moment stretches 50 stories,
00:28or 844 feet into the sky, meaning this one would be nearly twice that height.
00:34For reference, the American record holder for tallest building currently belongs to the
00:37One World Trade Center in New York City. The planned skyscraper in Oklahoma would extend
00:42some 131 feet taller than that. The proposed project includes four buildings,
00:47the tallest of which would be named Legends Tower. The tower's developer says that they have already
00:51secured the $1.5 billion needed to fund the project. However, they still need myriad approvals
00:56and guarantee they can fill the three residential towers that accompany the tallest.
01:00So is there a drawback to building an OKC? Well, some say that a skyscraper in a plane state
01:05poses a risk, namely due to the region's tornado frequency.
