Local restaurant aids community after Michigan church attack
Alex Eidy wasn’t at his restaurant in Grand Blanc, Michigan, when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—about a half mile down the street—was attacked and set on fire during Sunday service. But after employees at his business, Taboon Middle Eastern Cuisine, reported hearing gunshots and seeing smoke, Eidy sent help for the victims to a nearby meeting point. Authorities said the attacker opened fire and set the building ablaze, killing four people. Eight others were wounded, and officials said everyone else had been accounted for. Right after the attack, Eidy sent a staffer to ask what people needed. The answer came back: food. He packed up meals and delivered them, then fired up the grill for another round. Others showed up with donations too—a spontaneous line of neighbors stepping in without being asked.
