Project: Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)
Documentary Director: Kamran Jawaid
Documentary Producer: BAMM! Digital Television
PRGMEA Member: Atteq Ahmed & Mohammad Owais
PRGMEA Secretaries: Kamran Jawaid & Shaista Naz
PRGMEA Consultant: Kashif Samad

This documentary is briefed about the Better Cotton Mela held at Hala, Sindh, Pakistan. Better Cotton is the world’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton. Their mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment. This documentary is featured the different players in the Cotton Industry, working to support local farmers and specially the women. PRGMEA is in collaboration with BCI and have a positive presence at the Better Cotton Mela.

Pakistan is the third-largest producer of Better Cotton globally. We launched a Better Cotton programme in Pakistan in 2009 to help the country’s rapidly developing cotton industry grow cotton more sustainably and improve the livelihoods of the approximately 1.5 million smallholder farmers who rely on cotton for a living. As the country moves away from sugar production in anticipation of water-scarce conditions caused by climate change, more farmers are growing cotton since it is naturally more drought-resistant. Together with our partners, we are supporting more of these farmers to become Better Cotton Farmers.

The documentary is produced by BAMM! Digital Television and directed by Kamran Jawaid.

00:00Welcome to our visit, basically you have to give an overview of the farm level
00:29The BCI is a palm level standard.
00:33We are implementing our program partners like CABI, WWF, RDF, Assami Foundation and large farms.
00:43They are implementing these interventions.
00:46What are the benefits of farmers? What are the challenges?
00:49We will highlight them all.
00:51Thank you all for coming.
00:59You can see these stalls.
01:06They are looking at some items from here.
01:18Let's breathe about the stalls.
01:22Hello everyone.
01:24From the R.D.F. BCI, F.F. Azra Parviy.
01:27This is the Tandu Adam, Zilla Sangar.
01:29This is what we have done.
01:31Our farmers have made it from their hands.
01:33They have made a purse.
01:35They have made a potion.
01:37They have made a purse.
01:39They have made a purse.
01:41They have made it from their hands.
01:43So that if we are going to go,
01:45but this is our job,
01:47they can grow up.
01:48You are a miracle,
01:49you are a miracle.
01:50You are a miracle.
01:51You are a miracle.
01:52You are a miracle.
01:53You are a miracle.
01:54You are a miracle.
01:56You are a miracle.
01:57You are a miracle.
01:58As-salamu alaykum everyone.
02:01I would like to start from the prayer of Hz. Musa,
02:05which is very relevant on Patekaian,
02:08which says,
02:09Oh Lord, open my heart and make my task easy for me to do.
02:16Open the nods of my tongue so that whatever I say, it's understandable for others.
02:24So I really welcome all of you, all the respected members to Better Cotton event,
02:30which is organized with the support of all our program partners who are with us.
02:36So this particular event, membership, it's a kind of annual event,
02:44which gives us the opportunity that many members,
02:48who believe in Better Cotton,
02:53and are with us,
02:55we bring them outside the offices and the farm realities.
03:00And we provide an opportunity that they can connect with farmers.
03:05And we can see that Better Cotton and Better Cotton farmers
03:10are contributing to sustainability,
03:13either from the environment,
03:15or social sustainability,
03:17or financial sustainability.
03:19Let's not go to today!
03:21Let's not go to today!
03:22Let's not walk again!
03:23Let's not walk again!
03:24Let's talk and kids to our customers and continue to study,
03:25and let's not walk again!
03:29Thank you!
03:30What will you do with this question?
03:41This is DCI.
03:43You can tell us about the camera.
03:48Yes, sir.
03:50First of all, we have to do different grades of the cotton.
04:00Okay, different grades of the cotton.
04:02We have to link the seed of the cotton.
04:04That's a simple example.
04:06Besides the base performance variety, we have to take it.
04:10We have to take it.
04:14The base control is the best.
04:20You can see the base control.
04:22We have to take it.
04:24We have to take it.
04:26We have to take it.
04:28We have to take it.
04:30This is a gym type.
04:32The base control is the quantity.
04:36The knowledge of the farmers is not used.
04:40The first part of this plant is used to be used by the crop.
04:44That is how much these crops are damaged.
04:46The problem is that the farmer who is the only two to thirty-five years of old age.
04:50He has no clue if it is if there is a fat control.
04:54He said that it is a plant control to the seed of the palm of the palm.
04:58He said that there are a lot of pesticides that have people in the palm of the palm.
05:01He says that if he is a plant control to the palm of the palm of the palm of the palm.
05:04Does he know what he has to know what the problem?
05:06So, this is the case that it has to be used with a little bit of plastic and a little bit of plastic and a little bit of plastic and a little bit of plastic.
05:36This is the time for the day of the day, August from September.
05:47In the past, this is the pink one.
05:52This is what you are looking for.
05:55So what is pink?
05:57This will be just put in one spot.
05:59This is the plant.
06:04We have given the value of the livelihood.
06:08Because the impact target areas are 5.
06:12So, the livelihood is better than the cotton.
06:16For a former, if the cotton is not right,
06:24or if the cotton is not right, or if the cotton is not right,
06:28or if the cotton is not right, or if the cotton is not right,
06:32or the job opportunities are less.
06:36So, our male members go to any kind of way,
06:40and they can work in some way,
06:44and they can work in some way,
06:46but the female farmers,
06:48who are living in the house,
06:50the livelihood opportunities are very less.
06:54So, the better cotton has sustainable livelihood opportunities,
07:00which we have provided,
07:02and we have given them skill development,
07:04and we have been training for 3 to 4 months,
07:08which there are female farmers,
07:10or female farmers,
07:12who are female farmers,
07:14who are female farmers,
07:16who are female farmers,
07:18who are female farmers,
07:20who are female farmers,
07:22who have made hand-made clutches,
07:26which they understood will get transported.
07:28And we have displayed
07:31My name is Sandra and I'm from the Sámi Foundation, and today we have a better cutter and better cutters with the program partners.
07:56Our components are women empowerment and livelihood.
08:01These are our female leaders, gender leaders and women farmers.
08:11These are the models.
08:13We have made the same livelihood components.
08:15They can give training for how to make their own creative hands.
08:19From our side, they have a skill development training,
08:22which we have made the tailoring, embryo, poultry, hatchery training.
08:27How are these products?
08:29Yes, when the training is completed,
08:32then we provide them with our own toolkits.
08:35Then, they take their own things.
08:38And those who receive the order, they earn earnings.
08:42We have Teleoring Reperts in women who are great.
08:46They do very well and work in the home of our own.
08:48Better cutters, these are all the tasks of the land.
08:52They also work in our women with their tailoring.
08:55Okay.
08:56How are they going to work?
08:57How are they going to work?
08:58Good.
08:59Are they going to work great?
09:00That's how they are going to work?
09:01Yes, they are going to work great.
09:03So where does this city take this city?
09:05It's a city.
09:06It's a city.
09:07It's a city.
09:08It's a city.
09:09It's a city.
09:10It's a city.
09:11Thank you very much.
09:22My name is Muhammad Rehan and I'm from WWF Pakistan.
09:26Today we will share practices and things that our agriculture species are the ways to Ilsa.
09:35And they will share on your stories, experiences and other experiences.
09:40So, let's welcome you all. Thank you so much!
09:56Thank you very much, sir.
09:58We have a skill development.
10:00Tellering, embroidery, quality farming.
10:02How do you work for a group?
10:04How do you work for independent?
10:06In this way, we have a training.
10:10How do you work for a month?
10:12In this way, we have a training for this development.
10:16Embroidery and tailoring.
10:18After giving the training,
10:20we have identified the farmers.
10:34Hello, brother.
10:36How are you doing?
10:38Tell us about your store.
10:40It's from the Research Development Foundation.
10:42The topic is from the livelihood.
10:44You are seeing that
10:46end parameters.
10:48That we have identified the基準 methods.
10:50This is the basic concept.
10:52This is our ...
10:54We have a basic concept.
10:56Here we have to teach the farmer,
10:58We have training materials.
11:00We have sufficient it.
11:02We have to support the livelihood for the life.
11:04Here we have a block plantation.
11:06Again, we have a plant.
11:08The plant is a plant.
11:10We have sustainable plants.
11:12In this way, we have a sustainable plant.
11:14We are looking at the eco-friendly mall, which we are looking for for farmers' support.
11:21And, sir, we are looking for farmers to support our lives.
11:27We are looking for a game track.
11:29We are selling on e-commerce, direct or Facebook page.
11:33We are selling our farmer, Mr. Roshna.
11:36They are selling online for 4,000 rupees.
11:41We are looking for farmers' training.
11:48How do we train farmers?
11:50There is a training manual.
11:52We are using NRM.
11:54We are using soil, biodiversity and water.
11:58We are looking for farmers.
12:00We are looking for water-scape.
12:02We are using a farm yard manual.
12:04We also use a farm yard manual.
12:09We are looking for a farm workplace.
12:12We are looking for farmers as if farmers can grow in our greenhouse water and or taxes.
12:18Let's say, we are trying to grow a water-scape layer.
12:20There are a lot of woodland plants.
12:22We are looking for a tree.
12:24There are many plants in the se limit.
12:26This is a woven field in Sanford.
12:27We are looking at all the woodland plants.
12:29The woodland plants that come from the house are used in the materials.
12:31In Sanford's models, there are only 2 months.
12:33There are also some trees which are used in the greenland plants.
12:35We have to visit them and visit them and visit them.
12:45We have to visit them as a block plantation.
12:50We have a question, suppose we need to discuss the DCI district.
13:05The DCI is starting to say that the area of the factories are listed.
13:10We have a list of them, we have a list of them in Matiari, in Hyderabad, Tandola, and in Mikrofas.
13:18Then the full team of traceability is the supply chain.
13:21They come to Hidraabad and ask them what they are doing and what practices are they?
13:27Then they register them in their own system.
13:30I am representing them here as a large farm.
13:48The first thing was that this is a great job of cutting.
13:55you will show them here.
13:57Besides, the best practices,
13:59the local related resources,
14:01we can utilize it
14:03and make it better
14:05to build soil health.
14:07Like compost,
14:09ferment, biochar
14:11and the pest control
14:13is natural.
14:15We use the botnical stress
14:17to start
14:19with yellow parts,
14:23and the most important
14:25there were varieties
14:27of the varieties.
14:29We have been in Punjab
14:31which has been in breeding
14:33in the Marlis
14:35so we will request
14:37to see
14:39the name
14:41NS104
14:43as a result
14:45so
14:47this is
14:49in Punjab
14:51So we asked a seed for a 2-acre seed, and it performed very well.
15:08How is this?
15:09How is this?
15:10How is this?
15:11How is this?
15:12How is this?
15:13How is this length?
15:14How is this length?
15:15How is this length?
15:16How is this length?
15:17We also have a lot of length length.
15:21How large is this?
15:23Yes, and it is done up with eight-acre seed.
15:28We don't have anything to add.
15:33No sir, because the company that is called FFC, they also make fertilizer.
15:41Our farm yard menu is called from Gopart.
15:45We put it in the field.
15:47It's more of the lice than Israel.
15:51It's more of the carbon.
15:53The difference between FFC and DAP is more of the better.
16:01The project gets the same, and our money also increases.
16:05It's a good thing.
16:07If you study FFC, it's a good thing.
16:24My name is Hervat Al-Assad and I'm a CAB International.
16:28It's a good thing to do.
16:32I represent the CAB International.
16:36Basically, we build a capacity building with government.
16:42There are two key strengths.
16:44One is biocontrl.
16:46It's been a long time.
17:16This is our main specialization and this is another way that you can do minimum work in which you can do minimum work.
17:25This is the main specialization of human beings.
17:32We will visit the channel of the hospital, which we have developed or the technology we will demonstrate.
17:42And besides that, another key main step is our capacity building.
17:46The farmers' training in Pakistan since early 2000,
17:50if you have a direct flow, you will know every order.
18:12It's dangerous.
18:30That means that the farmers are all doing?
18:33weather is an important thing.
18:36I want to speak to them.
18:37There's a in the rain and the rain.
18:40So I'm going to the Karanthar.
18:42How old are you?
18:44How old are you?
18:46How old are you?
18:48You've got a lot of old Karanthar.
18:50You've got a lot of old Karanthar.
18:52What are you doing?
18:54You're a real life.
18:56We forgot about school.
19:00It's old people.
19:02Old people.
19:04Good people.
19:06Good people.
19:08Good people.
19:10So tomorrow.
19:12Good people.
19:14My Asia.
19:16My Asia.
19:18My Asia.
19:20My Asia.
19:22My Asia.
19:24My Asia.
19:26Tell me.
19:28Where can you please?
19:30Let me give you!
19:32Take care.
19:34Now we have provided a seat of 1820 females in the kitchen garden.
19:4740% of them have sold at the community level.
19:51And 20% of these females have never eaten all of them.
19:56But their nutrition has increased.
19:59And they started saving their children's schooling.
20:03So the benefit is that they have socially, economically and financially a bad friend.
20:33They have to be able to live in the world.
20:36They have to be able to live in the world.
20:39They have to be able to live in the world.
20:42Two big challenges.
20:44One is the property that you are looking to use.
20:48And the other is the soil.
20:51This is really big.
20:53Because the next 20 years of the population is running,
20:57And the biodiversity is not made of the biodiversity.
20:59So you are not going to live in the world.
21:00It is the same.
21:01It is the same.
21:02It is the same.
21:03It is the same.
21:04It is the same.
21:05It is the same.
21:06It is the same.
21:07And the first few years of the population's population is getting the same.
21:17If you have done botnicals, the pest cycle will be redistributed.
21:21Now, 15 days later.
21:23If the climate is favourable after 15 days,
21:26then the other spray will be reduced.
21:29What did you do?
21:30Botnicals are reduced to 40% of your chemicals.
21:33What did you do?
21:35Sticky traps.
21:36Some pests will attract.
21:3830% will attract.
21:4030% will be reduced to the botnical spray.
21:43Now they have no spray.
21:45Now they have the last pickings.
21:48If the trap is not coming,
21:51it's not coming,
21:53it's not coming.
21:54It's not coming.
21:56If the trap doesn't look like it,
21:58then the farmer doesn't know what the pest is.
22:00If we will suggest that there are pests,
22:04but there are pests,
22:06but there are pests.
22:08No.
22:09We can see that there are pests.
22:11Okay.
22:12For monitoring.
22:13Do you have a light trap?
22:15Yes.
22:16We have a light trap.
22:17We can see that.
22:18But this is a big tool
22:19that we can know
22:20that the crops will take effort,
22:22the traps,
22:23the ball bombs,
22:24what they will take,
22:25and how much they will take.
22:26they will take effort.
22:27They will take effort.
22:28You have to use them.
22:30Cook for a storm.
22:31It's very unclear.
22:32I don't know.
22:33The forest here is another one.
22:34Another one.
22:35This is also a fire.
22:36This has the fire.
22:37It's a fire.
22:38This is a fire.
22:39It's a fire.
22:40It's a fire.
22:41No.
22:42It's an fire.
22:43It's an fire.
22:44It's an fire.
22:45Interesting.
22:46I don't know there will be.
22:47And it,
22:48I don't think there will be.
22:49This is a good idea of the
23:11I am using a part of the millibug.
23:24In this millibug, it is used to use a millibug.
23:32This is a good white fly
23:42So, it's a good white fly
23:49When there is an insect and flying, the wings are falling
23:54They are falling, they are falling, they are falling
23:57and this is our 3-1, which is yellow color, which is attacked by sucking insects.
24:06Our flower is white flower.
24:10And this is another light flower, which is nocturnal insect.
24:16Nocturnal insects are all inside.
24:20And this is a capsule.
24:22This is a capsule.
24:24This is called the Male Attract It.
24:27Female call for Attract It is called the Male Attract It.
24:32This is the female to attract the male action.
24:35So, she will do the same.
24:38The one and average calculation will proceed.
24:43This is an experiment.
24:45The big труд over the ring.
24:49I don't have to work on it.
24:56This is a line of light.
24:58It's in two colors.
25:01This is sticky.
25:04It's yellow.
25:07It's sticky.
25:09It's sticky.
25:11It's sticky.
25:14It's in a liquid that you can put a little greasy substance
25:19so that it's a pink fly.
25:22It's a pink ball bomb.
25:27It's a capsule that releases a fish-bomb.
25:34That's why it's a female.
25:39It's a reproduction of the animal.
25:42So overall, this is the purpose of the pesticide spray, which is very important for us.
25:47So, three impacts will help us.
25:51For example, one impact is our pesticide reduction.
25:54Our soil will be better.
25:56Our environment will be better.
25:59Our environment will be better.
26:02Our environment will be better.
26:05Our environment will be better.
26:06Our farmer will be better.
26:08If the soil is contaminated, the soil will be better.
26:24I have got a tree here.
26:26I am taking a tree.
26:28This is a tree.
26:31There are many trees.
26:33These trees are broken.
26:35These trees are made but this.
26:40Here is a ginning mail.
27:09Here is a ginning mail.
27:16Here is a ginning mail.
27:21Let's go and let's go.
27:24Here is a ginning mail.
27:39Here is a ginning mail.
27:45Here is a ginning mail.
27:49Here is a ginning mail.
27:59We have 12-15,000 farmers here.
28:11We have a good place to get the gate pass,
28:13and we have a good place to get the gate pass.
28:15It's like we have a list from middlemen,
28:19and we have a good place to get the gate pass.
28:21We have a good place to get the gate pass.
28:29I have to say that this is all the same.
28:35This is the same.
28:37The same thing is that the training is the same.
28:42The same thing is that the people who have been trained in the job description are the same.
28:47The same thing is that the third party is the same.
28:50The third party is the same.
28:52Please comment please
29:22We also have 4-5 factories in Pakistan.
29:26Now there are 40 factories that have ordered plans.
29:30They have signed and signed.
29:33We are following the model.
29:35And the ones who are buying themselves,
29:37they are buying themselves.
29:39We are buying them.
29:41We are buying them.
29:43We are buying them.
29:45We are buying them.
29:47We are buying them.
29:49This is the avenue in India.
