00:14:51There are many good attractions along York's main street and one of the best known is the
00:14:57York Motor Museum.
00:15:00The Motor Museum opened in 1979 and was originally privately owned.
00:15:06Today it's operated by a not-for-profit community organisation.
00:15:12Over the years a number of vehicles have been donated to the museum and it's a fascinating
00:15:17example of some beautifully restored vehicles.
00:15:22Even if you're not particularly interested in veteran and vintage cars, you can hardly
00:15:27fail to be impressed by the care and dedication involved in bringing vehicles from our history
00:15:32back to life.
00:15:34Another interesting museum just up the road from the Motor Museum is the Courthouse Museum.
00:15:40This building also houses an art gallery and is certainly worth visiting while you're
00:15:44in town.
00:15:46The Residency Museum is not quite in the centre of town but over the river in Brook Street
00:15:52close to the Old York Hospital.
00:15:56York is certainly a prime destination for anyone who's interested in local history.
00:16:03Back on the main street there are other attractions including some unique shopping experiences.
00:16:11One of the must-visit shops would have to be the Penny Farthing Sweet Shop.
00:16:16If you're 6 or 66 this is one place that it's really hard to walk by and not go inside
00:16:21and have a look at all those sweet treats.
00:16:25At the time of making this video, Penny Farthing has been operating in York for over 16 years.
00:16:34Next up the road is the Good Life Store, which sells eco-friendly products and a variety of
00:16:40healthy food that you might just need after a visit to the sweet shop.
00:16:47There are plenty of other shops to explore including cafes, bakery, op shops and a local IGA supermarket.
00:16:57If you're looking for accommodation in town then it's hard to go past Settlers House,
00:17:03as it's located right in the heart of the main shopping area.
00:17:07Further out are more tranquil options such as White Gum Farm.
00:17:13Here there are reasonably priced on-site accommodation options or you can head out there with your own
00:17:19caravan or motorhome.
00:17:22We'll be doing a separate video on White Gum Farm as there are many different activities
00:17:27you can take part in including swimming, fishing, four-wheel driving and even flying lessons.
00:17:33It's also worthwhile checking out the different churches that are in and around York.
00:17:41These range from the ornate and impressive St. Patrick's Catholic Church near the centre of town
00:17:46to Holy Trinity and Uniting Churches and the much more humble buildings like St. Andrew's Bush Church
00:17:53a few kilometres out of town.
00:17:57Also located in the town is the Bushland Garden.
00:18:03The site was once a quarry and later became a dumping ground for the ruins of a local hotel
00:18:09that was damaged during the Mechering earthquake.
00:18:14There are paths leading around the garden and a couple of gazebos where you can sit and just relax.
00:18:21The garden is founded on the principle of using no water except during the initial establishment of plants
00:18:28and incorporating plants that people can easily grow in their own gardens.
00:18:35There are a good variety of different flowering plants in the garden
00:18:38and if you have limited time and want to see a good collection of native plants in bloom
00:18:44without having to drive miles and miles through the countryside
00:18:47then this is a great spot to come and explore.
00:18:51Another place we recommend that you check out while you're in town
00:18:55is the Mount Brown Lookout.
00:18:57The Lookout offers stunning views over the town and surrounding farmland.
00:19:02It's a nice place to visit at any time of year but especially so during wildflower season
00:19:10as there are also golden fields of canola flowers stretching out to the horizon.
00:19:17Just below the main lookout is a turn off to a picnic area
00:19:21where there are shelters, seats, tables, a barbecue and toilets.
00:19:25With so much to offer visitors it's little wonder that York is such a popular tourist destination.
00:19:34With a good selection of accommodation to fit any budget, interesting shops, museums,
00:19:40attractive parks, wonderful heritage architecture and surrounded by some glorious scenery,
00:19:46York should definitely be on your list of places to visit.
