Hi there i went down to Kirkistown Race circuit on Sunday 28/09/2025. Where some very interesting people where doing a track day. A track day is designed to help and improve motorcycle. Racing skills. There where people riding BMW 1000 RRs and other people riding Honda 600s another gentleman was riding a pre injection silver Yamaha. I think Michael Sweeney from Dublin was there supporting one of his team mates but i am not sure. I was offered several cups of tea on several occasions but i decided to come home so that i could upload this video. There was a bit of a delay due to a minor incident but everything was fine. I hope you enjoy this video if you do share with your family and friends consider subscribing and hit the bell so that you will be informed when i bring out my next video any comments please leave them down below. Kirkistown is the oldest racing circuit in Ireland and was used during the Second World War as an aeroplane base. Colin Burnside #

00:00Hi everybody, hope you're all keeping well at home. This is Colin Burnside. This is the 28th of September and I'm down at Kirkson for a track day.
00:15I've known about this track day for a while, so I'll either be posting this on Wednesday of this week on Vimeo or I'll be posting it to Daily Motion.
00:27So, we're just going to have a look at some of these bikes. There's a young lady here. Sorry, what's your name please?
00:35My name's Tanya Chambers. Tanya Chambers. And what association do you have with Motorbikes, Tanya?
00:42Well, my partner Graeme Smallwoods. I'm part of his team. Right, okay. So, what sort of bike is this?
00:51This is a BMW. Right, okay. Now, that's an RR. So, that would be putting out, I see it's got a Michael Dunlop sticker on the back.
01:03Absolutely. Right, are you following Michael Dunlop? Oh, absolutely. We are indeed.
01:08Did you go up to the 2025 celebration up in Balmain Town Hall? We did indeed.
01:13You did? It was fantastic, wasn't it? It was brilliant, yeah. Yeah, it was great there.
01:17There's some collection of motorbikes there. Oh, superb. Wasn't there? Yeah.
01:21Did you notice the, did you notice the, the Honda? There was a Honda. It was about, it was nearly up towards the end of the display.
01:33Yes, I think it did, yes. That was actually, that was actually a bike that was made specifically for Joey Dunlop and Wayne Gardner.
01:43Wow. Yeah. And Wayne Gardner, Joey Dunlop used that bike during the, I think it was either the Formula One or the, it was a World Championship event anyway.
01:55Right. And then what he did was, that bike was specifically made in Tokyo. Right. For Joey Dunlop. And then what actually happened was that bike was then led, or shifted over, or sent by plane or whatever, to Wayne Gardner.
02:11And as you probably know, Wayne Gardner was a multiple world champion. That's right. You know, so. Brilliant.
02:17I thought that was good. That would be fantastic.
02:19So do you want to tell me a little bit about this bike? Well, Graham has been riding this for, um, four years.
02:28Uh huh. And, and we have had it in Spain. Uh huh. We have, we did, we're, we're about, we're about in Spain, Alamira.
02:38We were in Almaria and, um, and Lucia. And that was absolutely fabulous. Uh huh. And then, um, yeah. So we did the Mondello rounds at Mondello last year, which was fantastic. Uh huh. Really good. So yeah. And we just do all the
02:57practice and he's, um, he's been doing the roads this year. I'm not going to be able to call him this.
03:04Right. What roads? What roads has he been? What roads? He did Cookstown. He did Tandrigay. And he did the Armoy.
03:11Aye. The Armoy races were great this year, weren't they? Oh, it was fabulous. Yeah. So I think this reference was Tandrigay.
03:18Tandrigay. Uh huh. I was, uh, you know as you come down into the village? Yes. At the, uh, Tandrigay.
03:26Tandrigay. And then you turn right. And then you go through a series of bends. And then you
03:32turn right again. And then you go up. And then there's a big, big sweepin' right-hander.
03:37That's right. I was at, uh, like a cottage on the left-hand side. Brilliant. You know, so.
03:43So he did the roads on this, this is his, uh, new Ponda, CPR 600. Uh huh. So, yeah. Uh huh.
03:53Uh huh. Everything today has to be connected to computers. It does indeed, yes. You have
03:59to have the laptop. Uh huh. You know, there's, there's, there's no such thing as taking out
04:05a, uh, you know, a screwdriver and a ten mil spanner and sort of adjusting the suspense
04:10in that way. You know, so. Yeah. It's all good for him. So. Yeah. So. We're just
04:16out enjoying today. Uh huh. Any, any, uh, decent results for, what is it? What's his first
04:23name? Sorry. Graham Smallwood. Any decent results for Graham? Well, he's managed to stay on. That's a good result.
04:32It hasn't put a trade. It hasn't put a trade. No, no, no. That's great. No, no. He's, he's
04:43did it very well. And, yeah. The livery's very good on, like, Luke Johnson. It is. It looks
04:49lovely, doesn't it? Yes. Yeah. It looks lovely. Luke Johnson. And this. Uh huh. So, yeah. It's good. Yeah. Now, I notice it has, uh, has it got,
05:00uh, has, uh, has it got hail brake linings on it? Has it got hail brake linings on it? Yes, it has indeed. It has indeed.
05:11Uh, what about the suspension? Is it standard suspension or K-Tech? K-Tech, Mike, isn't it? Yeah. Is it K-Tech or a standard? K-Tech suspension.
05:21Uh, show-up. Show-up. Show-up. Show-up. Show-up suspension. I know a lot about gearing. Right. So, you can see the show-up. I know a lot about gearing. Well, we all know about gearing.
05:31Um, Graham likes to change his gearing a lot. Right. Okay. No, it's, it's, it's a great light. It's going really well. That's excellent. Excellent. And then we have, uh, the Jixxer. Yes. Now, that's, uh, Richard Newman there from, uh, Skillon. Oh. Well, you would know, uh,
05:50you would know, um, you would know, um, Lars Britton from Nenniskill. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, what year is this bag? What year? Yeah. It's a K-6. K-6. Yeah, it's 2006.
06:072006. Yeah. Okay. Um, that's a thousand? Yeah. So, what sort of brake horsepower would that be putting out at the back, William? It's only putting out at 161, unfortunately. It's pretty standard, so.
06:18160. Well, it's not bad. You would leave a bit of, there'd be a bit of burning rubber going up the back straight on it, wouldn't it?
06:23Oh, it's enough for me to put it that way. Uh-huh. And what rounds have you taken your bike out on this year?
06:29Uh, anything this year. Pardon? I haven't done any rounds this year. So, this is your first, this is your first track day?
06:35No, I've done one track day at the start of the season. But it was, uh, an ending in this year, the Power of Commanders were having to change that, so.
06:44Right. Okay. But then I got that done, now it's, um, new Power of Commander on her, so she's ready to go now, hopefully.
06:50Right.
06:51Anyway.
06:52Only got married.
06:53Oh, congratulations. Congratulations. That's great. So, I think they're gonna, and who is this Yamaha?
07:01That's Nigel's, R6. Nigel?
07:05Just checking.
07:15So, hello.
07:17Hello Nigel, uh, is this your, uh, is it an R6?
07:21Yeah, pre-injection R6.
07:23Pre-injection, right, okay. So, that would be about, what, about 19...
07:28Nine.
07:29Nineteen ninety?
07:30Nineteen ninety, uh, nine.
07:32Nineteen ninety-nine.
07:33Right.
07:34And how do you find it compared to the, uh, you know, yours is pre-injection, so that means it's not, it's not injected?
07:41No.
07:42A lot more set, no.
07:43Messing about.
07:44It's a standard carburetors on it?
07:45Yes, yeah.
07:46Just a lot more messing about, so go ahead.
07:48Aye.
07:49I've only ever rid of it.
07:50Pre-injection, so.
07:51Uh.
07:52I don't know.
07:53How do you,
07:54How do you find starting them up?
07:56That's, that's actually what's called an over square engine and that?
07:59Yeah.
08:00They're fine, it starts up fine.
08:02Starts up fine.
08:03It's a pretty standard engine, so, not a lot of messing with it.
08:06Uh, do you use super unleaded fuel in it?
08:09Yeah, always super unleaded.
08:10Right.
08:11Have you ever tried using a wee bit of, uh, aviation fuel on it?
08:14No.
08:15No, it's just, just the standard.
08:17It's expensive enough without going down that road.
08:19It is, that's right.
08:20I think it's about 30 quid a gallon for.
08:22Yeah, yeah.
08:23We were working out, uh, earlier on, some of the guys.
08:26It's about seven pound a litre.
08:28Seven pound a litre?
08:30That's wild, isn't it?
08:31Yeah.
08:32And the petrol's getting expensive as well.
08:34Petal's very expensive, isn't it?
08:36Yeah.
08:37No.
08:38But it's, it's great that, uh, Kirkerson put on a track day.
08:41It is.
08:42Because what, what it does is, it enables you to improve your writing skills.
08:46Exactly, yeah.
08:47You know, yeah.
08:48And a safe environment.
08:49Yeah, yeah.
08:50It's a pretty safe group and intermediates at the minute.
08:54And it's pretty, you know, level.
08:56Uh-huh.
08:57Right, okay.
08:58That's great.
08:59Thanks very much indeed.
09:03Why, do you want to leave a cup of tea or coffee?
09:08This is some more bikes started up here.
09:11They're just about to go out on a session here.
09:15Uh...
09:19Uh,
09:20as you can see, they have little, uh, yellow stickers on the front of them.
09:23That's to ensure that the, the bikes have been passed with scrutiny years.
09:27There's a nice Kawasaki. Over there. And then another nice... I think it's a BMW. I'm not sure if it's a BMW or not.
09:51BMW. It's an ORR BMW.
09:57So it's all action down here at Kirkston today.
10:09So that's a guy who's going out on their bikes now.
10:13You can see them just coming out onto the track.
10:17So we're in a very good position here to watch them.
10:21So Kirkston is about a mile and a half, two miles long.
10:25So it's basically a big triangle.
10:27So here we go.
10:31Here's the guys now.
10:33Here we go.
10:35Here we go.
10:37Here we go.
10:39Here we go.
10:41Here we go.
10:42That sounds like a 250 Honda.
11:12Kawasaki.
11:39Two Gaggler riders coming down here.
11:42At the minute you can see.
11:44Set up the bag.
11:49I'm just going on the tatters.
12:07That's tatters corner.
12:14On the left front side.
12:21Yellow I think.
12:28I'm just going on the right side.
12:35I'm just going on the right side.
12:42I'm just going on the right side.
12:44I'm just going on the right side.
12:51I'm just going on the right side.
12:58I'm just going on the right side.
13:05Oh there's a red flag out.
13:09There must be an incident.
13:16So you can see that Marshall's doing a really good job with the red flag there.
13:23And there's the guys coming back in again.
13:30So you can see that Marshall's doing a really good job with the red flag there.
13:37So coming down into the hairpin.
13:44Before the hairpin there's like a chicane.
13:46And they're doing about 170-180 miles an hour.
13:53Not obviously around the hairpin.
13:55But coming down into the hairpin they're doing that sort of speed.
14:01And they're doing about 170-180 miles an hour.
14:08Not obviously around the hairpin but coming down into the hairpin they're doing that sort of speed.
14:31We going to go into the right side too.
14:37We're actually on the right side.
14:39Peroops and someинки are on one side.
14:40Here we go.
14:44We are getting into the right side that we'reكان of stayingéquilibiliers.
14:47And we're getting into the right side to the right side by the side.
14:53And next day that probably the second most of the earth will be done.
14:58This is kind of a good choice.
15:00And then I'll enjoy the denename's connecting.
15:01so either that sessions over or I think that may be just that particular session
15:14over are they going back at a game off the track back in the paddock there
15:19right okay so there's been an incident down at Fisherman's Bend if you can look if you
15:32look at the the tower there there's like a telegraph pole to the right of it straight
15:41down there straight basically down there there's a right hand band to take it about
15:4870 miles an hour and the riders are a rider or maybe a couple of riders have
15:56unfortunately have an incident but hopefully everything will be okay they've
16:01brought them back in again and cleared the grid now when they clear the grid
16:05they mean that they don't want any other riders going out onto the track and
16:11that's the reason why they clear the grid
16:18so Fisherman's bends they're doing about about 70 maybe even 80 miles an hour
16:32around that corner
16:48so don't forget to like and subscribe or sorry don't forget to share with
16:53your family and friends if you like this video consider subscribing and hit the
16:59bell so that you'll be informed when I bring out my next video but we're not

17:35so Kirkland's a very very famous track many up-and-coming riders have raced here
17:44back in the day back in the there was what's called the European round the likes of
17:50Valentina Rossi Max Biaggi Casey Stoner even came here in fact I think it was back in the
17:581980s Casey Stoner actually broke his leg here before he went on to worldwide fame
18:04Joey Dunlop was raced here the Dramar Destroyers Joey Dunlop Frank Kennedy Jim
18:14Dunlop Mervyn Robinson then the Armoy Armada you had Ray McCulloch Brian Steele
18:23did I mention his name I think I did but there's been a lot of riders have
18:35competed at the Kirkson
18:45so you just see the riders in the distance they're starting to fill up the
18:49the grids so hopefully in the not too distant future we'll be all back on the
18:57go again but we just have to be patient
19:03so as I say there's been a bit of an incident down at Fishermans and we're just
19:11gonna have to wait I hope this camera holds out or this phone I use a phone to
19:15make my videos with so I'm just gonna pause you until we come back
19:23there's lots of guys come back out onto the track again so this session has resumed
19:45so you can just see them go down and the data's there which is a laptop pad
20:00so we're coming back up again in the next couple of minutes
20:04so we're coming back up again in the next couple of minutes
