Cats were first domesticated about 9,000 years ago in the Middle East, and they have lived alongside humans ever since. They are natural hunters; their ability to catch mice and small rodents made them especially valuable in early farming societies.
A cat’s body is extremely flexible: it has over 230 bones, which helps it land on its feet when falling from heights. Their heart rate is also much faster than humans—beating between 140 and 220 times per minute.
Cats don’t just communicate by meowing; they also use their ears, tails, and body language to express themselves. Interestingly, adult cats usually “meow” only to communicate with humans—not with other cats.
There are more than 70 recognized cat breeds worldwide, and millions of cats live as beloved pets in human homes.
🐾 In short: Cats have been independent yet affectionate companions, and an inseparable part of human life, for thousands of years.
