00:00Perak Veterinary Services Department has confirmed that a dog, seen being savagely beaten in a viral video, died from severe head injuries.
00:11In a statement on Monday, DVS said the case came to light after the video spread on social media the day before.
00:18DVS said its animal welfare and enforcement officers visited a house in Taman Akid on Monday but found no one home.
00:27They later contacted the suspect's sister, who confirmed the incident occurred on September 19 and that the dog died a few days later.
00:36A police report was also lodged on the same day.
00:40Checks with the veterinary clinic where the animal was taken revealed that the dog was unconscious and in critical condition upon arrival, with severe head injuries.
00:50Due to its poor prognosis, only supportive treatment could be provided.
00:54DVS said it will continue cooperating fully with police in the investigation.

01:04Abang Ahmad said the 23-year-old suspect had been arrested and later released on bail pending further investigation.
01:11The case is being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for Criminal Intimidation and Section 29, Subsection 1, Subsection A of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 involving criminal intimidation among family members and the killing of a dog.
