Get a deep dive into the traversal mechanics of Kristala in this latest developer diary for the upcoming version 1.0 of the ARPG. In Kirstala, combine feline-driven traversal skills like wall running, tightrope balancing, and pole swinging with stealth mechanics to land punishing aerial takedowns on unsuspecting enemies.
00:00The very traversal abilities and overall verticality we've built into Crystalla's levels are what truly set us apart from other action RPGs.
00:19And it provides players freedom of movement to choose exactly how they want to explore the world of Eilor.
00:24With so much fluidity built into traversal, there are tons of opportunities to infuse stealth into our playstyle.
00:31Our characters are designed to move with agility and explosiveness, just like Creel Cats, to explore the game world and stalk prey in a realistic way, especially when executing aerial takedowns and stealth kills.
00:45It's great that there's no fall damage in Crystalla, so you can freely explore Dawn Wars without worrying about taking damage.
00:53In addition to Mantling and Boatting, most core abilities like Triming, Boat Yolting, Pole Swimming, and Tide Road Balancing allow you to quickly avoid enemy detection and navigate gaps or secure hard-to-reach vehicles.
01:08The majority of these abilities are there from the start, but some, like the Wall Run skill, are unlocked as you progress the main storyline.
01:14Another great example of this is, of course, the Canine Steeds, which are unlocked once players make their way to Tendar.
01:21When we first started planning the game's biomes, we wanted an open world view to some of the levels, despite Crystalla primarily being a linear game.
01:30That's how the idea of incorporating mounts first came about, and it ultimately became a perfect opportunity to not only expand on exploration, but to also introduce Canine Companions to the world.
01:42So players can initially choose from tree-starting breeds and summon their Steeds to help explore the more open and vast areas of Tandard.
01:50Currently, Tiger areas, like caves and interiors, don't accommodate the Steeds, but we're designing most future levels for their use.
01:59Our goal is to add as many breeds as possible and allow players to customize their Steeds' fur pattern and armor just like you can now with the feline characters.
02:08If we're able to expand scope further, we intend to allow for Steeds to be used in combat situations as well.
02:14Being in early access allows us to use player feedback to enhance various aspects of exploration and combat.
02:22We're actively working to implement traps and obstacles to the game, which will further elevate the challenge in some traversal sequences and add even more variety to the gameplay.
02:34In Crystalline, you can expect anything from beer traps and landmines to ballistas and explosive barrels.
02:41Mechanical traps are also being added, including things like swinging pendulums and rotating blades and blade poles.
02:49In most cases, traps are meant to be avoided, but they can also be used strategically to avoid close-range combat situations.
02:56So, for example, a player might lure an enemy into an explosive barrel and then detonate it at a distance with a projectile spell.
03:02Ultimately, extraversal ability, combined with the new Steeds and traps, are designed to enhance and expand the exploration options that are available to the players.
03:15We look forward to seeing it all come to life in our upcoming full release.
