00:00Tonight on Healthy, Wealthy and Wise,
00:02a firefighter mum gets a makeover that will inspire us all.
00:06Oh, look at you.
00:08That looks awesome.
00:09Doesn't she look good?
00:11Jesus.
00:13Comedian Dave Thornton is our first victim of the box of death.
00:17What are you doing? I live in Melbourne. We only have hook turns.
00:20Like, that's the only thing I have to worry about.
00:22This room needs to be rescued.
00:25And this family can't believe how we transformed their home
00:28in a room rescue.
00:29Oh, my God.
00:45Hello, hello, and welcome to the very first episode
00:53of The Revitalised Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
00:56Yes, we are bringing it back.
00:58A bit of a polish, a bit of a zhuzh, but the bones are still the same.
01:02It's all about living smarter, feeling better,
01:05and maybe having a bit of a laugh along the way.
01:09I'm Chrissie Swan, and I'm so pleased to be here.
01:13And over there, within arm's reach of every fact you could possibly need,
01:18is our researcher and in-house info whisperer, Mr Ash Wicks.
01:22Hey.
01:23Hey.
01:24Hey.
01:26Now, we thought we needed someone that I could call on to answer questions in an instant,
01:31but sadly that person didn't show up.
01:33So we got Mr Mustache over there.
01:35Great start.
01:36I was first pick.
01:38Number one pick, they say.
01:39But anyway, I have got a broken phone screen,
01:43a vague sense of responsibility,
01:45and Google.
01:46So we're in safe hands.
01:47What could possibly go wrong?
01:49A lot.
01:49Now, our very first guest,
01:51it's someone who knows exactly how to make you feel confident in your own skin.
01:56She's a creative force, an entrepreneur, an author, a styling icon,
02:00and a genuinely beautiful human being.
02:02Of course, I'm talking about our style expert
02:04and my very good friend, Chika King.
02:07All right.
02:07Take a seat.
02:10I mean, good on us for creating an entire TV show
02:14just so that we can sit on a couch and chat.
02:16I know, we never get to catch up,
02:17so now we get to do it this way.
02:18I love it.
02:19Now, I know what you're doing here,
02:21but why don't you tell our beautiful viewers what you're up to?
02:24Well, I'm here to help people reconnect with themselves
02:26because I think a lot of people feel style is something that's slightly intimidating,
02:31and really, when we look good, we feel good.
02:33So, I'm hoping that with some perspective,
02:35I can show people how they can change the way they look and feel
02:38just with a tweak of an outfit or, you know, moving around to some furniture.
02:42Chika, where did your first Mission for Confidence take you?
02:46Well, the first person was Linda.
02:48She's from a town close to Bendigo.
02:50She is the chief officer at the CFA,
02:53and she's the most selfless woman.
02:54Her daughter put her forward, wanted to give her mum the spotlight
02:57and to get her out of her black clothing.
02:59So, we had a lot of fun hanging out together
03:01and doing a little bit of a makeover.
03:03Oh, my God.
03:04I love this so much.
03:06It's fun.
03:07All right.
03:07Let's take a look.
03:08Let's do it.
03:09Well, hello, Miss Linda.
03:20It is so lovely.
03:22It's so lovely to meet you.
03:23You too.
03:24This is incredibly impressive.
03:25Big red truck.
03:26Big red truck.
03:27I know, I love it.
03:28Very exciting.
03:30Now, what are we doing today?
03:32Ashley.
03:32Oh, Ashley, have you done this?
03:35Yeah.
03:36My daughter Ashley nominated me.
03:38She's a member here at the Fire Brigade as well.
03:40She wants to see me try something new.
03:45I don't really have much style.
03:47I dress for comfort.
03:50I want to see mum get out of black.
03:52Okay, so she's wearing a lot of black, is she?
03:53Yes.
03:54When I'm not captaining the CFA, I am a lighting technician at the local theatre.
04:02Black.
04:03That's what we wear.
04:05It's just carried over into my real life because it's easy.
04:10And I'm lazy when it comes to fashion.
04:13Black.
04:14Black.
04:15Black.
04:15Oh, my God, you really aren't joking.
04:17I'm not.
04:17No.
04:18No.
04:18You don't have to think about, does this go with this?
04:21You just go with black.
04:23But I do have a little bit of colour in my velvet flares.
04:28Love, love, love, love.
04:30Yes, I do too.
04:31What would you wear with this, though?
04:32A black turtleneck.
04:36Dress?
04:37Dress, no.
04:38Definitely no dresses?
04:39No dresses.
04:39Okay, fine, that's cool.
04:40I'm not a dress person.
04:41No, no, and that's totally fine.
04:42At all.
04:43I don't own a dress.
04:44Not one.
04:46I like to be able to jump into my firefighting gear when we get a page
04:52and not have to worry about getting out of a frock.
04:55And I'm assuming probably not much make-up.
04:57If it's a really special occasion, I'll put some mascara on.
05:01Woo-hoo!
05:01Woo-hoo!
05:02Okay.
05:03I've got no idea how to put it on.
05:04She couldn't even do my dance make-up when I was little.
05:06Oh, really?
05:07Did you have to learn how to do it yourself?
05:08Oh, no, I still can't do it.
05:09Make-up.
05:10Just not a priority in my life.
05:13I have no idea how to apply make-up,
05:15but I can drive a semi-trailer across the Nullarbor.
05:19I had breast cancer in 2022.
05:24I found the lump myself.
05:26Fortunately, it was nice and early.
05:27It hadn't gone to my lymph nodes,
05:29so I just had it removed a month of radiation treatment.
05:33And so far, so good.
05:34It certainly gives you a sense of your own mortality
05:37and that every day that you have is a gift.
05:41It also makes you realise that you've really got nothing to lose.
05:44Get out there, do what you want to do.
05:47You might not get another opportunity.
05:50Okay.
05:51I think we can definitely give you some things
05:53that you can layer up and have fun with.
05:54Still keep it casual.
05:55Working with your personality
05:56and maybe move a little bit away from all the black.
05:59Aw.
06:00Are you happy to do that?
06:01I'm happy to have a crack at it.
06:02That's all we can ask for.
06:03We might even find you a few white T-shirts.
06:05Oh, me and white.
06:07Gosh, it'll stay clean for about 30 seconds.
06:09That doesn't matter.
06:10Don't worry about that.
06:11I bet you that's not true.
06:12I bet you.
06:13Oh, it is.
06:13Oh, it is.
06:14The boys here are going to love when you walk in and go,
06:16what have they done to our captain?
06:20Before I left, Linda was kind enough
06:22to give me a little wardrobe makeover of my own.
06:25A diverse and inclusive brigade
06:29that represents the community that we serve
06:32is really important,
06:34and I think that's important for all brigades.
06:36For me, it's all about breaking down barriers for women.
06:39People can be what they can see.
06:41Absolutely.
06:41And in the tanker, we're sometimes all girls.
06:44It's really nice seeing mums pointing to their little girls
06:50and saying, look, look, look.
06:52Oh, firetrucks, firetrucks.
06:53And the little girls are all there waving.
06:56Traditionally, that was a little boy thing.
07:03So good.
07:12I have feelings for Linda, and I'm pretty sure they're real.
07:15She's a very special woman.
07:17Oh, my God.
07:17Do not go anywhere, because after the break,
07:21I will be sitting down with the master of the mic, Dave Thornton,
07:24who's blissfully unaware that he's about to face the box of death.
07:29Stick around.
07:30You'll see what I mean.
07:31CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
07:33This segment is brought to you by Bob Jane T-Mart.
07:45Best tyre price guarantee.
07:47Welcome back to Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
07:51Now, do not go anywhere, because we are smack bang in the middle
07:54of a chica-style makeover.
07:57We'll have the big reveal a little later in the show.
08:00But before we get back to the glam, we're shifting gears
08:04with a segment we like to call Fast Facts.
08:07Today, second-hand cars.
08:10Now, what to look for, what to run from,
08:12and how not to get sweet-talked into buying something
08:15that needs a new transmission and a priest.
08:19We've brought in our motoring expert, Adam Morris,
08:22from ReDriven to give us all the info,
08:26and I'm going to time him.
08:27Two minutes.
08:28No pressure.
08:29How are you planning on timing that, Chrissie?
08:31How do you think?
08:32I thought you could just time it off my attention span
08:35and then time that by six.
08:38And we should be around about there.
08:40I'm going to time him with two-minute noodles.
08:43The people's stopwatch.
08:45Amen.
08:47All right, Adam, you've got two minutes
08:49before these noodles go in my gop.
08:51G'day, I'm Adam, and I'm your motoring expert.
08:56And look, let's be honest, when it comes to buying a car,
08:59there are some dodgy characters out there.
09:01It can be daunting, but I've got some good news.
09:03Avoid these red flags, and you should be sweet.
09:06If the seller, and this also goes for car yards
09:08and dealerships as well, doesn't allow you
09:11to get an independent pre-purchase inspection,
09:13they are hiding something.
09:15Do not buy that car.
09:16Also, if the car doesn't have a service history,
09:19or the service history seems dodgy,
09:20or the receipts, or any of the paperwork isn't sorted,
09:23yeah, not a good sign.
09:24You need to learn as much about the car's history
09:26as you possibly can.
09:28Next up, if the odometer is showing 30,000 kilometers,
09:31but the rubber on the pedals is completely worn through,
09:34that's not a good sign.
09:35The kilometers should match the condition of the car.
09:37Also, modifications are generally a no-no.
09:40Plus, they might be illegal.
09:41This means that when it comes time to re-register the car,
09:44you won't be able to.
09:45Also, be really careful of dodgy finance deals
09:48and used car warranties.
09:50A bad finance deal can put you into a world of hurt,
09:52and most used car warranties
09:54are not worth the paper they're written on.
09:56You've got to read the fine print.
09:57Also, does the seller seem sketchy?
09:59Are they not answering the phone,
10:00or they want some weird form of finance,
10:02or maybe they're way too enthusiastic to sell,
10:05and the price of the car is far too low?
10:07These are all red flags.
10:08Next up, look out for any mismatched paint,
10:11or if the panel gaps aren't accurate,
10:13or if there are any signs of spray paint overspray.
10:15That's a good sign that the car has had an accident.
10:17And inside, if the car smells like wet dog,
10:20there's a good chance it's got some water leakage issues.
10:22Yeah, don't buy that car.
10:24Look, overall, if the car or the buying process doesn't feel right,
10:28or maybe it feels way too good to be true,
10:30it probably is.
10:31Just keep your emotions and your enthusiasm in check
10:34and buy with your head, not your heart,
10:35and you should be good to go.
10:41And he's done.
10:43Let's see if Adam beat the noodles.
10:47No.
10:47Still got some crunch, so he's safe.
10:50And with that, it's time to slow it down a bit.
10:54Let's all just settle in.
10:55Make a cup of tea.
10:57Maybe have a classic late-night show chat with the guests.
10:59Nothing too intense.
11:01Nope.
11:01That's what a boring show would do.
11:04We are not that.
11:05We're taking it up a notch with a little segment
11:07we like to call The Box of Death.
11:14Please welcome to The Couch Australia's own stand-up sharpshooter,
11:18Dave Thornton.
11:19Dave, hello.
11:20Hello, Swanee.
11:21How are you?
11:23Well, that's nice.
11:24Always an absolute pleasure to see you.
11:26And to you.
11:27Now, this time is going to be a little bit different.
11:30Yeah.
11:30Or no.
11:31Let me explain.
11:32This is Australia, and we live in a country where pulling down a sun visor in your car
11:37could unleash a large spider.
11:39And every third pot plant is harbouring something venomous with an attitude problem.
11:43So we thought, why not honour this national anxiety that we all share with a little challenge?
11:49While we chat, you're going to be holding a creature nature designed specifically to make you scream expletives.
11:57But you're not allowed.
11:58But you're not allowed.
11:58But you're not allowed.
11:58We're on telly.
11:59Your choice is a massive snake.
12:03And if that doesn't tickle your fancy, your other choice is a giant spider.
12:12What are you doing?
12:13What are you doing?
12:14I live in Melbourne.
12:14We only have hook turns.
12:15Like, that's the only thing I have to worry about.
12:18Weirdly, a hook turn is your third choice.
12:20Really?
12:23Only joking, your third choice is the box of death.
12:29Hey, Chrissie, this doesn't feel healthy, wealthy or wise.
12:32This doesn't hit any of the KPIs that we're trying.
12:35So I've got to choose between these three.
12:36Yeah.
12:37We do take our obligations seriously.
12:39We want to return your children's father to them tonight after this show.
12:44Oh, that's nice.
12:44So we do have top-notch paramedics on standby.
12:48Woo!
12:50Hey.
12:53We actually couldn't afford a paramedic, so I've taken a crash course in first aid.
12:58I hope this program has deep pockets because there's going to be a lawsuit.
13:01I just want to let you know.
13:02So, Dave, what are you vibing?
13:05Are you arachnophobic, spiders, or...?
13:08Ophidiophobic.
13:09I beg your pardon?
13:11Ophidiophobic.
13:12I believe it's fear of massive snakes.
13:14Wow.
13:15Yeah, I get paid to Google.
13:17No, I think the name for that is reasonable.
13:20Yeah.
13:20Like, it's not as if anyone's going to...
13:22I'm fine with giant snakes.
13:23It is perfectly reasonable for that thing to...
13:26Oh, my God.
13:27That doesn't look right.
13:28All right.
13:28We're going to take a break, and then when we come back, I'm going to need an answer.
13:33Oh, no, fair enough.
13:34Mention your sponsors, and then I die.
13:35That makes sense.
13:36That makes complete sense.
13:38Got to pay the bills, Thorno.
13:38No, we'll be back after the break.
13:47Healthy, Wealthy and Wise is brought to you by Specsavers.
13:52Welcome back to Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
13:56I knew you'd come back because you want to see which creature Dave Thornton is going to choose.
14:03Thanks for sticking around.
14:04Yeah, I shouldn't have.
14:06I don't mean, yeah.
14:07Well, you could have been a hasty retreat because before the break, I offered you three options.
14:12You can hold a snake.
14:13You can hold a spider.
14:14Or you can go for whatever is in the box of death.
14:20And we're here to find out what it's going to be.
14:23To be honest, I spent the whole time texting Tommy Little to see if he could fill in.
14:26But this sounds weird.
14:31It's better the devil you know, because I don't know what's in that box.
14:34I'm actually worried to see what's in it.
14:35And I hate spiders.
14:38And I don't know if I watched too many Motley Crue video clips when I was a kid,
14:41but I feel like I could wear the snake around me.
14:44I should be fine.
14:45You're going to do that.
14:46It looks like, has it eaten recently?
14:48No, not recently.
14:50Oh, this is.
14:52This feels like I'm a D-grade celebrity.
14:54Get me out of here.
14:54This feels.
14:56It looks so real.
14:57Oh.
14:58This doesn't feel good at all.
15:00Done all of this.
15:01There's a little lump in here.
15:02Is that Grandanya?
15:03What's going on?
15:04All right.
15:06Are we ready?
15:08Yeah, you have to hold the head.
15:09Why?
15:10Why do I have to do that?
15:11Because I just made it up.
15:13Oh, so you're not cool with it?
15:15No, I'm not cool with it.
15:16No.
15:17Honestly, oh, God.
15:19Oh, OK.
15:20All right.
15:21Start the clock.
15:22You, Dave Thornton, have had dozens of sellout shows both here and overseas.
15:26You've officially made it.
15:27How's your super?
15:30To be honest, I work in the arts, mate.
15:31It's just annuation.
15:33There's no super about it.
15:35Whatsoever.
15:35You have performed across the globe.
15:38Edinburgh, Montreal, Singapore.
15:41Why was your residency at the Sphinx in Geelong, the pinnacle of your career?
15:46Because I grew up in Geelong.
15:47I grew up in Detroit.
15:48I'm a proud Geelongian.
15:50And actually, the Sphinx Hotel.
15:52The drive-in bottle.
15:53Do you know what it's called?
15:54No.
15:54The toot and come in.
15:57That is the best.
15:58Isn't it?
15:59Dave Thornton, every comedian has to deal with abuse from hecklers.
16:02Have you ever heard them say anything that's made you think, actually, you've got a point?
16:07Yes.
16:08What?
16:08I was performing at a university when I was younger and I had just started comedy.
16:13And I remember I looked out to the audience and this woman was sitting in the front row
16:17and I said, oh, are you okay?
16:19You're not really laughing.
16:19And she just said, I just think you can do better.
16:24And here I am, 20 years later on a Saturday night with a snake around my neck.
16:30Who's laughing now, sweetheart?
16:31This is, oh, he twitched.
16:33He actually twitched.
16:35Oh, God.
16:36What if I told you right now you had a bat in the cave?
16:39There's a booger.
16:40What are you going to do?
16:41Oh, God.
16:42This is the least of my problems.
16:44You should see what's in my pants.
16:47He isn't a brown snake, but I have one on my person at this point in time.
16:50Actually, um...
16:52Oh, I don't.
16:53Carry on.
16:54Keep asking you.
16:54Yes.
16:55You climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with the great Tommy Little.
16:58Next time, do you think you'll do it with someone more sympathetic
17:02when you break down and cry for your mummy?
17:05This is a story up there.
17:06Tommy's a really lovely guy, to be honest,
17:07and I had, um, my circulation's quite bad
17:10and my hands weren't really working
17:12and I had to whizzle-wazzle at one stage going up the mountain
17:15and I couldn't button my pants back up.
17:17And so Tommy, bless him, did my pants up.
17:19Oh, it was the Daily Mail paparazzi at that exact moment.
17:23Where?
17:25Well, like I said, it was very cold,
17:26so he was Tommy Little by name, I was Little by nature.
17:29Oh, this is making my immemorium.
17:32I was once at the Logies with Denise Streisard
17:34during the immemorium and it ended and she goes,
17:36oh, good, I'm not dead.
17:38Anyway, you didn't die.
17:40Well done.
17:40You've survived and you can go out
17:43and make more money for your children.
17:44Well done.
17:44Sonny, thank you, mate.
17:46Oh.
17:47Oh, that was you, Ebony.
17:49Oh, I didn't know what he was doing.
17:51Oh, God.
17:52Oh.
17:52Next up, we are taking a closer look
17:54at something a lot of us do overlook, our eyesight.
17:58We all like to think that we'd notice
18:01if something was wrong with our eyes,
18:03but it turns out plenty of conditions
18:05are sneaking up on us very quietly.
18:08Our medical expert, Dr Michael, has been out
18:11talking to the public about the warning signs
18:13that we all tend to miss.
18:15Let's take a look.
18:16Most of us take our sight for granted
18:18until something goes wrong.
18:20So today, I'm hitting the streets
18:22with these simulation glasses
18:23to show everyday Australians what it's like
18:25to live with a chronic eye condition
18:27and why you should get your eyes checked
18:29before it's too late.
18:35We're going to give you these glasses,
18:37try them on,
18:38and then tell me what you can see.
18:40Absolutely nothing.
18:43Have a look at me.
18:44Can you see me?
18:45It's just blurred off.
18:48Yeah, that's quite difficult.
18:49Wow.
18:50Yeah.
18:50That's not...
18:51No, you don't want to get to that stage?
18:52No.
18:52I'm visiting an expert
18:55to find out more about eye conditions.
18:58So, Joe, these glasses have been blowing
19:00everybody's mind out in the street there.
19:02Look, I think it's important
19:03that we talk through
19:04all of these different conditions
19:05and let people at home
19:06understand what's going on.
19:08So, these glasses replicate
19:09diabetic retinopathy.
19:11So, when these small blood vessels
19:12in the retina becomes leaky,
19:14and it makes your vision
19:15really patchy and blurred.
19:17There's certain bits of my vision
19:19that I can see
19:20and then there's other bits
19:21where I just can't see anything.
19:22Yep.
19:22So, that one's diabetic retinopathy.
19:24What does it look like?
19:25Maybe the floaties
19:26that I get in my eyes sometimes.
19:28I'm seeing white spots everywhere.
19:30I can see you.
19:32Yep.
19:32Often, in the early stages,
19:35there are no symptoms,
19:36which is why I would say
19:38to patients with diabetes
19:39to get their eyes checked
19:41on a yearly basis.
19:42Makes sense.
19:43You might try another one.
19:45So, that one's called glaucoma.
19:47Uh...
19:49Oh, golly.
19:50Glaucoma often creeps up
19:52with no symptoms at all.
19:53So, when you start to notice it,
19:55often the damage is already done.
19:57It affects your peripheral vision,
19:59which is why wearing these glasses
20:02look like you're looking through a tunnel.
20:05God, it's just my centre side,
20:06not the peripherals.
20:08How much harder is that than normal?
20:11Well, 150% harder.
20:13Try these ones on.
20:15This one's pretty scary.
20:16Oh, wow.
20:17Yes.
20:18I cannot see right in the middle of my vision.
20:21Yeah.
20:21Can you read anything there?
20:23No.
20:23Do you have to move your eyes around
20:24to try and see it?
20:25Yeah.
20:25Can you see me?
20:26Only if I move that way.
20:28How many fingers am I holding up?
20:30There I can see two.
20:31There I can see none.
20:32Your macula is your central vision,
20:34and macular degeneration
20:35affects that part of your vision.
20:37So, it means doing simple things
20:39like reading, driving,
20:42or just seeing detail
20:43is really difficult.
20:45It's one of the leading causes
20:46of vision loss as we age.
20:47I see a faint outline of you,
20:50but that's all.
20:51What eye condition do you think
20:52that might be?
20:53I don't know.
20:54I'm assuming it's nothing not good.
20:56How many fingers am I holding up?
20:57I don't know.
20:58No?
20:59I wouldn't be able to tell you.
21:00That's actually cataracts.
21:01Wow.
21:02Wow.
21:03Can you see anything?
21:04No, I can see your hand moving,
21:06but you could be anybody.
21:08Cataracts is basically
21:09when the natural lens in the eye
21:11becomes foggy,
21:12kind of like looking through
21:13a dirty or foggy window.
21:15Often, it can creep up
21:16really gradually.
21:18Yeah, that's scary.
21:19I did have a cataract removed,
21:21but it definitely wasn't
21:22as bad as this.
21:23Do you think you'd be able
21:24to live your normal life
21:25or drive or do your
21:26day-to-day stuff without a chance?
21:28Absolutely not.
21:30I just would not be able to function
21:31if I had a vision like that.
21:33So, Joe, from what you're saying,
21:35these don't go from zero
21:36to a hundred overnight.
21:38This is a process
21:38that happens over time.
21:40The scariest part is
21:41some of these conditions
21:42don't even have any warning signs.
21:44So, even if your vision feels fine,
21:46you should still book in
21:47to get eye examinations
21:48on a regular basis.
21:50It's not rocket science, is it?
21:52Exactly.
21:53Early prevention and detection
21:55makes all the difference.
22:01Actually, Ash,
22:02can you quickly look up
22:04how often we're supposed
22:05to be getting our eyes ticked?
22:06Oh, surely it's similar
22:08to bed sheets,
22:09like once a year.
22:10That's disgusting.
22:12Still to come,
22:14our DIY diademo,
22:15Amy Stanton,
22:16is rolling up her sleeves
22:17and giving a tired old womb.
22:20Oh, no,
22:20it's not about
22:21my reproductive system.
22:22A tired old womb.
22:24A proper refresh
22:25for a family
22:26that really deserves it.
22:28We'll see you then.
22:29This segment is brought to you
22:40by Oz Design.
22:42Furniture for life.
22:45Welcome back to Healthy,
22:46Wealthy and Wise.
22:47Now, if you love a good
22:48before and after,
22:50you are going to love this.
22:53Sitting with me is Amy Stanton.
22:56Amy, welcome.
22:58Now, we did just meet
22:59a snake
23:01that eats a rabbit
23:02once a week.
23:03Have you eaten a goat
23:05or is there something?
23:08Just a few too many beers.
23:10No, I'm expecting a baby
23:12in, yeah,
23:12not long now,
23:13a few weeks.
23:14Well, we'd better get cracking
23:15on this segment.
23:17Okay,
23:17we have set you a mission.
23:20Tell us about that.
23:21Well, we're doing something
23:22called Room Rescue
23:24and basically,
23:25we put a call out
23:25to families
23:26that have a room,
23:28a space
23:29that needs a bit of TLC.
23:31It might be not functional,
23:33old, outdated
23:34and then we go in,
23:36give it a cheeky little makeover
23:37and I tell you what, Chrissie,
23:39this first family
23:40couldn't be any more deserving.
23:41I was so stoked
23:42to help them out with it.
23:44Let's take a look
23:44at your first Room Rescue.
23:47Casey and Cam
23:48met five years ago.
23:50After the heartbreak
23:51of losing their son
23:52at 25 weeks,
23:53they now cherish
23:54the family of four
23:55they always dreamt of.
23:57I'm a mum of a toddler
23:58with another one on the way.
23:59I know how hard it is
24:01for a house
24:01to feel unfinished.
24:03Did the kitchen,
24:05started this room,
24:07that's where it stopped.
24:09We had this little surprise
24:10down here.
24:11Who come along?
24:12So, time and money
24:13just went elsewhere.
24:14We have had the walls
24:15plastered for about six months.
24:17We have had a blanket
24:19as a curtain
24:20for about six months or so.
24:22This room needs to be rescued.
24:26It got plastered
24:27when I was 38 weeks pregnant
24:28and it wasn't ideal
24:30but we needed to get it
24:31to a livable state
24:32before a newborn.
24:34Yeah.
24:35And from one kid
24:36to two kids,
24:37no one tells you
24:38how hard it is.
24:39It's a completely different spectrum.
24:40Everything in that space
24:41was put on the back burner.
24:42We had bigger priorities,
24:44bigger issues
24:45to worry about.
24:47Okay, Casey's house.
24:50This is a classic episode
24:52of have a small family,
24:55then you have all these
24:56big plans to get things done
24:57and they just don't happen.
24:59Wall's half done,
25:01floor's half done.
25:03They've emptied out the space.
25:04It's actually
25:04a little bit bigger
25:06than I thought.
25:07We're at the gateway
25:08of the beautiful Yarra Valley here
25:10so I really want to bring
25:11those outside colours in.
25:13Your soft greens,
25:14your sages,
25:15your terracottas
25:15and just make it a space
25:17where you just sit down
25:19with your family
25:20and it's chill
25:21and you're walking here
25:22and you're like,
25:23ah, I love my life.
25:25First things first
25:26is painting.
25:28The walls have been plastered
25:29and ready for months.
25:31Time to get the job done.
25:33A warm white will allow me
25:35to bring in pops of colour
25:36through the furniture
25:37and homewares
25:37and complement
25:38some much-needed new flooring.
25:42All right, Rowan,
25:43the floors.
25:44What are your first thoughts
25:45on them?
25:46So, it is going to take
25:48a lot more work
25:49than we first thought.
25:50A bit of grinding to do,
25:52a bit of levelling to do
25:53to make a flat,
25:54but we'll get there.
25:56All right,
25:57let's get into it.
25:58The last thing I want
25:59is for Casey and Cam
26:01to walk around
26:01on bumpy, creaky floors
26:03so good prep is essential.
26:06Taking the time
26:06to prep properly
26:07means the finish
26:08will look amazing
26:09and last for years.
26:18Laying over hardwood floors
26:19can be a touchy subject
26:21for some,
26:21but the hardwood floors
26:22have seen way better days
26:25and moving forward
26:26with maintenance,
26:27keeping them clean,
26:28they're the way to go
26:29and they're going
26:29to look amazing.
26:31As much as I'd love
26:32to stick around and help,
26:33a girl's got to shop.
26:35All right, Casey's house,
26:36number one thing,
26:37you need a comfortable couch.
26:40We're tossing up
26:41between leather and fabric.
26:45Leather's great
26:45because you can wipe it down,
26:46but you can't go past,
26:48especially in Melbourne,
26:49the warmth and comfort
26:51on a fabric couch
26:53like this.
26:54This might be a winner.
26:56Look at this.
26:57It's beautiful.
26:59I really want to bring in
27:00kind of curved edges,
27:02just soften up the space
27:03and it's kid-friendly
27:05because there isn't so much
27:06pointiness going on.
27:08And this buffet
27:09looks like
27:11the perfect showstopper.
27:13Look how much storage there is
27:15to chuck all your kids' toys
27:17in there
27:17and it's a beautiful piece.
27:19Matches the floors so well.
27:32Beautiful.
27:33We're on.
27:34She's going to be tight.
27:38That was close.
27:40This nearly had to be
27:40an entryway couch,
27:42but we got it in.
27:43I want it about
27:44five centimetres off the wall
27:45because it's quite a small space
27:47and actually,
27:48if you leave it
27:49about five centimetres off,
27:50it creates a shadow line
27:52and makes it look bigger.
27:54Magic.
27:55Now,
27:55always love to go a bit
27:57oversized with the rug
27:59and the trick is
28:01don't have it there.
28:04Always chuck it
28:05just under the first leg.
28:07Makes the space look bigger.
28:11I need a nap after that.
28:12Oh.
28:17Look at those colours.
28:23Just bringing in
28:24those natural terracottos
28:26and greens
28:26and soft browns.
28:28Yep.
28:29Perfect.
28:31These dining chairs,
28:32even the tactical curve on them
28:34to match the curve
28:36on the buffet.
28:38Curve on the dining table
28:40and then we mixed it up
28:42with a bit of sharp edges
28:43on the occasional chair.
28:47Love your work, Chris.
28:49They look amazing.
28:51Just softens the whole space.
28:54This room is just
28:55I'm pumped.
28:59Alright, guys.
29:00No peeking.
29:01Remember what it looked like
29:02before we had
29:04the iconic blanket
29:06up on the window.
29:08Floors.
29:09There was stuff everywhere.
29:11On the count of three,
29:12open your eyes, right?
29:14One.
29:16Two.
29:16Three.
29:19Oh my god.
29:24Oh my god.
29:28It is amazing.
29:30Yeah, it is.
29:33You guys deserve it.
29:35You deserve it.
29:35I know you're going to make me cry.
29:37Look at those planes.
29:39We've got these beautiful shears up.
29:41Look at that.
29:42I don't want to say that.
29:43New flooring.
29:44So much easier to maintain.
29:46Yeah, the floors are unbelievable.
29:48Paint job.
29:49Everything is so bright and lively.
29:51Beautiful new furniture.
29:53Wow.
29:54I can't.
29:55I'm so grateful.
29:56The floor is amazing.
29:56Oh.
29:57I've never had something so nice in my life.
30:01I am literally shook.
30:03It would be nice to come home to me.
30:05Oh, it is heavenly.
30:07Yeah.
30:08We would have never had a look this good.
30:10We are forever grateful and cannot say thank you enough.
30:14You both deserve it so much.
30:16So many memories are going to be created in here.
30:18It's amazing.
30:18Amazing.
30:19And just like that, new floor, new furniture and a whole new vibe.
30:27You make it look so easy.
30:29Make it look easy is the key word there, Chrissy.
30:32At home, it's pretty hectic.
30:33I've got a toddler, another baby on the way and my toolkit always gets lost or it's full
30:38of Lego or something like that.
30:41I relate to that so much.
30:42My kids seem to think that yogurts for wall art.
30:45Yeah, but Ash, the best form of DIY, if you can do something and your kids can't break
30:51it, you know you've built it well.
30:52Like, you've smashed it.
30:54Yes.
30:54Interior design by Chaos Goblins.
30:58Please stick around.
31:00Linda is just around the corner with her brand new look.
31:04See you soon.
31:04Welcome back to Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
31:17Now, earlier, we met an incredible woman from just outside Bendigo.
31:22Firefighter, a mum, someone who's always putting others first.
31:26Now, with Chika's help, she's going to have a full wardrobe revamp, clothes that push her
31:31confidence through the roof.
31:33And now, it's time for the big reveal.
31:38Hello, lovely ladies.
31:39Hello.
31:40How are you both?
31:40Lovely to see you.
31:42So good to see you.
31:43Are we ready to go shopping?
31:45Sure I am.
31:46Let's do it.
31:48We're going to meet Donna.
31:49Donna, this is Ashley and Linda.
31:51Welcome to Blue Illusion.
31:53Black.
31:54Black.
31:54More black.
31:55So our beautiful Linda only wears black.
31:57Yes.
31:58And we're going to take her away from black.
32:01There's some nice black here.
32:02Yes, you know.
32:03Well, I'm wearing black today, so I, you know.
32:06Not allowed to have black.
32:08Black and white.
32:09Black and white.
32:10But I thought the Bendigo jean was a perfect place to start because there's so many varieties
32:13of colours and shapes.
32:15And I think you'll love these jeans because they're easy to pull on.
32:18They'll look great on your body type.
32:19And they're stretchy.
32:20And they're stretchy.
32:21You can run in them.
32:22Yeah.
32:22You can sleep in them.
32:23Yeah.
32:23You can sleep in them.
32:23Oh, the cardigan.
32:31Not something I would ever pick off the rack, but I'm happy to give it a crash.
32:34You're going to try it.
32:38In you go.
32:40Oh, hang on.
32:41I've got to figure out that undead.
32:44I really like that.
32:46This is a great piece too.
32:47Yeah.
32:47You know, it's got the nice arms.
32:49Love, love, love.
32:50What about a wide leg pant like this?
32:52I love the way they fall.
32:53Yeah, they're beautiful, aren't they?
32:54Yeah.
32:55That's just not my colour.
32:56I like it.
32:57Oh, of course you do.
32:58It's the colour on her eyes, isn't it?
33:00I really like the detail on the cuffs there.
33:05This is not going so well.
33:09These pants.
33:10Oh, yes, I like those.
33:12You could wear it with a little white T-shirt and a jacket over the top.
33:15See, I think that they're way more versatile.
33:17It's a good colour.
33:18Do you like the pants?
33:19I love the pants.
33:20Yes.
33:20This looks great.
33:21That is a strong look for you.
33:24That's a lovely jacket.
33:25Look at you go, Linda.
33:26I love it.
33:27You're going to go, no, Chica.
33:29But let's just try it because we can.
33:32No, Chica.
33:35This one?
33:35Stop it.
33:36This is beautiful.
33:39What do you think of the sneakers?
33:40Nice.
33:40I love it.
33:41Yeah.
33:41And you don't have to undo the shoelaces to get them on.
33:44These are nice too.
33:45These have got a bit of a wide leg on them.
33:47It's all about the pockets on the hips at the moment.
33:49Yep.
33:50Ooh.
33:51I like this one.
33:52You can have the front tucked in and have the back out.
33:55Makes your legs look longer.
33:56I think you need more colour underneath that jacket.
33:59Oh, that's a lot of grain.
34:01It's a lot of grain, but it will look really good.
34:02Ashley, are you excited to see your mum?
34:20Yes, very.
34:21I'm going to expect a little tear, you know.
34:22A little reaction.
34:23No?
34:23No.
34:24I'm going to pinch you.
34:26Still won't work.
34:26Don't challenge me.
34:27How are you going in there, Linda?
34:33Have you checked yourself out?
34:34I have.
34:35Do you look hot?
34:36I didn't even think that was possible.
34:39Okay, Linda, we're ready.
34:46Oh, look at you.
34:48That looks awesome.
34:50Doesn't she look good?
34:51Oh, my God.
34:53Look at this body hiding under those tracksuits.
34:56Yay!
34:56Well, you know I said to you no black.
34:59Yeah.
35:00But what I have done, knowing that you are a black wearer,
35:02is showing you that you can wear a bit of colour with black.
35:05It doesn't have to be all black.
35:07But it's black enough that I'm comfortable.
35:09Good.
35:10And what about the hair?
35:11I'm loving the curl being more exaggerated.
35:13Nigel's got a superpower.
35:15Yeah.
35:15Your face looks just stunning.
35:17You look so beautiful.
35:18I'm very proud of you because I know this is a big deal
35:21and you look amazing.
35:23It's just a joy to see you looking so wonderful.
35:26Amazing.
35:27I'm really stoked with it.
35:28Well, I think our job here is done.
35:30I'm absolutely thrilled.
35:31Feels great.
35:32Whee!
35:34Yes!
35:35You look so beautiful.
35:51I had a fantastic time.
35:53Thank you both so much for coming.
35:55And enjoy.
35:56Wait.
35:57Um, it's locked.
36:04Bye!
36:05Bye!
36:06That was unbelievable.
36:10I know.
36:11She just looks so confident and now she's got all those extra options that aren't black.
36:16Yes.
36:16She's not just a firefighter.
36:19She's now a whole smoke show.
36:20Yep.
36:20She is.
36:22Yes.
36:23No, it absolutely is amazing.
36:25And, you know, confidence doesn't have to be loud.
36:27It can sometimes just be,
36:28But it's good if it is!
36:29Sometimes!
36:30Sometimes!
36:33All right.
36:34Well done.
36:35I know it's early days, but that could be my favourite segment.
36:37After the break, we are going to be joining Vincent Dim Sim Lim.
36:42My God, I'm so hungry.
36:43I'm salivating just at the thought.
36:45We'll see you soon.
36:54Welcome back to Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
36:56Okay, it is time now for No Dumb Questions.
36:59It's the safe place to ask what you actually want to know.
37:03Expect honest answers and a little hairspray.
37:06Let's go.
37:07My name is Patrick Stone.
37:12I am a barber.
37:13And there are No Dumb Questions.
37:17Let's start.
37:18Ellie Kay asks,
37:20What's the weirdest request you have ever had in your chair?
37:24Well, someone came in and asked a scarlet,
37:28which is the shaved everything here.
37:30And then here you have the malek going down.
37:32People ask really weird questions.
37:34But I like it actually.
37:36You know, it keeps life spicy.
37:38Jesse W wonders,
37:40Is it really bad to shampoo every day?
37:43Shampoo can damage your hair.
37:46The most important point is just this.
37:48Invest in good shampoo and conditioner.
37:51There are better qualities.
37:52So the thing is, you don't have to do like this, just a little bit, unless it's more.
37:56And if I say that, I mean it, because normally less is never more.
38:00Lily F asks, what's the best way to tell your barber you don't like the haircut they have given you?
38:06Be brutally honest.
38:08No one has the right to be angry at you.
38:10But the worst thing is, if you never gave me the chance to fix my mistake or just restyle something which you didn't like,
38:18and it goes out and you tell people you were not happy with me, because that would break my heart.
38:23Wow, I get emotional.
38:26Vivian L asks, how do you deal with someone's hair when it's really gross?
38:31If someone has really gross or greasy hair, I'm a little bit of a weird, kinky person, so I like it.
38:38No, just kidding.
38:39If it's extra gross, you're just going to shampoo it three more times, you know.
38:43That's not a big deal.
38:45Alex T asks, what's the most common mistake people make with their hair at home?
38:52Well, it's not COVID isolation times anymore, so don't use the trimmer or scissors on your own hair.
38:58I have made many people who have always made the same mistakes and then come and ask us for help.
39:04And the problem is, if it's too short, darling, we can't go any shorter.
39:09I mean, you wouldn't operate on yourself.
39:11You're not a surgeon, isn't it?
39:13So, the professionals are here to help you.
39:18What's up, guys?
39:18My name is Vincent.
39:19I'm the food expert.
39:20Don't want to fly 14 hours to eat American burgers?
39:23Well, you don't have to.
39:24I'm going to show you guys the best way to make down-and-out burgers.
39:28Let's get into it.
39:30Very first step is to preheat this hot plate.
39:33At home, you can use a pan, flat top, barbecue outside, whatever you like.
39:36We're using a wok burner today.
39:38Let that heat up, and we're going to make the sauce.
39:41Mayonnaise in the bowl.
39:44Relish.
39:46Tomato sauce and mustard.
39:49A little bit of white vinegar.
39:50Paprika, for the color.
39:56A little bit of salt and pepper.
39:59And that's it.
39:59Super easy sauce.
40:01The sauce is like an American-style burger.
40:03Okay, now the hot plate is hot.
40:07I'm just going to turn down that heat.
40:09Add a splash of oil.
40:11Onions.
40:13On the hot plate.
40:17The natural sugars from the onion is going to caramelize it slowly.
40:20We're going to turn it all the way down.
40:21It's just going to take a couple of minutes on the pan.
40:24We're just going to get these onions nice and brown.
40:26Even color.
40:27If you find your onions are drying out before they go brown, you can add a little bit of water, just a little splash, just to keep it hydrated again.
40:37There we go.
40:39Boom. Done.
40:41Now we're going to be doing the burger patties.
40:43We just have some ground beef here.
40:45What I'm going to add first is onion powder and garlic powder.
40:50Now we add a little bit of Dijon mustard.
40:53A tiny bit of oil.
40:55This is going to help it keep moist.
40:58Secret ingredient.
40:59This is meat velvet.
41:01What this does is it's going to tenderize the burger.
41:03It's going to keep everything juicy on the inside.
41:05And the outside is going to get a nice crust on there.
41:08Now we're going to add yum yum.
41:10This is a little bit of MSG.
41:12It's going to bring out that natural flavor so you can taste the original flavor of the burger so much more.
41:17And salt and pepper.
41:20Now everything's in there.
41:21We're going to give it all a mix.
41:23Get all the flavoring mixed in.
41:25One giant meatball first.
41:29And then we're going to split it to 80 gram balls.
41:34A little bit of oil to our hot plate just to stop it from sticking.
41:39Beef ball.
41:39Onto the plate.
41:43This is a patty smasher.
41:44This is going to be able to press everything on there so it gets the maximum contact onto that hot plate.
41:50But this thing sticks.
41:52So what you want to do is use a piece of parchment paper and press it on there.
41:56Then it makes it nice and easy to pull it off.
41:59There you go.
42:00No stick and no mess.
42:02Perfect smash burgers.
42:05Anything that's on a hot plate.
42:07If you can't hear that sizzle, then the fire's not hot enough.
42:09You've got to turn it off a little bit.
42:12And we're going to put the burger buns on.
42:16Now once the cheese is melted, the burger buns should be nice and soft.
42:18And we're ready to plate up.
42:27I'm drooling just looking at this.
42:30Alright guys, I'm so excited.
42:32Look at these.
42:34American style down and out burgers.
42:37Made right here in Australia.
42:40That looks so good.
42:42I'm Dim Sim Lim and I'll catch you guys next time.
42:45Mmm, perfect.
42:46And on that very delicious note, that is it.
42:49The very first episode of Healthy, Wealthy and Wise 2.0 is in the bag.
42:54And you didn't ruin it.
42:56I'm shocked I didn't cry.
42:57It's amazing.
42:58I am in absolute shock.
42:59And TBH, I thought during that makeover segment there was going to be a tear or two.
43:03Oh, it was touch and go.
43:04I know, me too.
43:05I am a crier.
43:06I did the pageant.
43:08Yeah.
43:09It's been a bit of everything, hasn't it?
43:10Informative, surprising and genuinely fun hanging with you, Ash.
43:14I never thought I'd say that.
43:15Such kind of word.
43:16You sound like my mum.
43:19Next week.
43:20I have lost my confidence.
43:23A makeover so extraordinary, you just won't believe it.
43:27Oh my gosh, you look magnificent.
43:31And the shocking things that people are pouring into their eyes, thanks to social media.
43:37That is incredibly dangerous.
43:39Until then, relax.
43:42You've done enough for one day.
