Transcript
00:00Well thousands of people have packed Sheffield City Centre today because it's
00:05the Sheffield 10K. You can see the start line before me here and they're just
00:09about to get started.
00:12Six, five, four, three, two, one, let's go!
00:19Good luck everybody!
00:21Good luck! The Sheffield Mutual Sheffield 10K for 2025 has officially started.
00:28We are waving you across the start line. All the best!
00:33Hey!
00:58Can you tell me what your name is and why you're running the Sheffield 10K
01:03Could you tell me what your name is and why you're running the Sheffield 10k today?
01:28Yep, my name's David Howe and I'm running it for Sheffield Children's Hospital in
01:32memory of my son Oliver. Can you tell me a little bit about Oliver?
01:36Yeah, he got diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was six in 2020. He had lots of treatment
01:45and they were fantastic with him. Unfortunately, he passed away on the 1st of February 2023
01:51age date. So yeah, so everything we do is for him, we raise a lot of money. This is what
01:56he wanted, it was all about raising money. Is this the first time you've done the 10k?
02:01No, this is the third attempt. I did the Great North run first and then this is my third one
02:08at running this.
02:10Could you tell me why you're wearing that particular costume to run the Sheffield 10k?
02:15So at work I decided to do a little bit different. I decided to do a vote to pay. So they had
02:19four choices between Batman, Cowboy, Wells Waldo and just my pyjamas and this one's the winner.
02:27Are you pleased with their choice? Yeah, I look fab.
02:32Rich Willerman's running the Sheffield 10k in full cricket gear. Rich, could you tell me
02:37why you're doing this? Yeah, sure. So I'm running for the Ruth Strauss Foundation which
02:42is a foundation set up to support children and families who are sadly going to lose a
02:45parent through a terminal cancer diagnosis. And this is one of a series of runs I've been
02:51doing. I started with the London Marathon. I've got three more to go so I finished with
02:54the actual Jane Tomlinson Yorkshire 10. By the end of that I will have covered the equivalence
02:59of 14,000 cricket runs. So the aim behind that is means I can then just match Joe Root's
03:05fantastic test batting record before he goes out to Australia.
