08:07Today, second-hand cars. Now, what to look for, what to run from and how not to get sweet-talked into buying something that needs a new transmission and a priest
08:18We've brought in our motoring expert Adam Morris from ReDriven to give us all the info and I'm gonna time him two minutes. No pressure.

08:32I thought you could just time it off my attention span and then time that by six
08:36And we should be around about there
08:40I'm gonna time him with two-minute noodles. The people's stopwatch.

08:45Alright, Adam, you've got two minutes before these noodles go in my gop
08:51G'day, I'm Adam and I'm your motoring expert
08:56And look, let's be honest, when it comes to buying a car, there are some dodgy characters out there
09:01It can be daunting, but I've got some good news
09:03Avoid these red flags and you should be sweet
09:05It's the seller, and this also goes for car yards and dealerships as well
09:10Doesn't allow you to get an independent pre-purchase inspection
09:13They are hiding something. Do not buy that car
09:16Also, if the car doesn't have a service history or the service history seems dodgy
09:20Or the receipts or any of the paperwork isn't sorted
09:23Yeah, not a good sign. You need to learn as much about the car's history as you possibly can
09:27Next up, if the odometer is showing 30,000 kilometres
09:31But the rubber on the pedals is completely worn through
09:33That's not a good sign
09:35The kilometres should match the condition of the car
09:37Also, modifications are generally a no-no
09:40Plus, they might be illegal
09:41This means that when it comes time to re-register the car, you won't be able to
09:45Also, be really careful of dodgy finance deals and used car warranties
09:50A bad finance deal can put you into a world of hurt
09:52And most used car warranties are not worth the paper they're written on
09:55You've got to read the fine print
09:57Also, does the seller seem sketchy?
09:59Are they not answering the phone or they want some weird form of finance?
10:02Or maybe they're way too enthusiastic to sell and the price of the car is far too low
10:07So, these are all red flags
10:09Next up, looking out for any mismatched paint or if the panel gaps aren't accurate or if there are any signs of spray paint overspray
10:15That's a good sign that the car has had an accident
10:17And inside, if the car smells like wet dog, there's a good chance it's got some water leakage issues
10:22Yeah, don't buy that car
10:24Look, overall, if the car or the buying process doesn't feel right or maybe it feels way too good to be true
10:30It probably is
10:31Just keep your emotions and your enthusiasm in check and buy with your head, not your heart
10:35And you should be good to go
10:36And he's done

19:14And it makes your vision
19:15Really patchy and blurred
19:16There's certain bits of my vision
19:19That I can see
19:20And then there's other bits
19:21Where I just can't see anything
19:22Yep
19:22So that one's diabetic retinopathy
19:24What does it look like?
19:25Maybe the floaties
19:26That I get in my eyes sometimes
19:28I'm seeing white spots everywhere
19:30I can see you
19:31So
19:32Often in the early stages
19:34There are no symptoms
19:36Which is why
19:37I would say to patients
19:38With diabetes
19:39To get their eyes checked
19:41On a yearly basis
19:42Makes sense
19:43You want to try another one?
19:45So that one's called glaucoma
19:47Uh

19:51Often creeps up
19:52With no symptoms at all
19:53So when you start to notice it
19:55Often the damage is already done
19:57It affects your peripheral vision

21:16Really gradually
21:17Yeah, that's scary
21:19I did have a cataract removed
21:21But it definitely wasn't as bad as this
21:23Do you think you'd be able to
21:24Live your normal life

21:26Or do your day-to-day stuff
21:27Without a chance?
21:28Absolutely not
21:29I just would not be able to function
21:31If I had a vision like that

23:14Well, we'd better get cracking on this segment
23:16Okay, we have set you a mission
23:19Tell us about that
23:21Well, we're doing something called Room Rescue
23:24And basically we put a call out to families
23:26That have a room, a space
23:29That needs a bit of TLC
23:30It might be not functional
23:32Old, outdated
23:34And then we go in
23:36Give it a cheeky little makeover
23:37And I tell you what, Chrissie
23:39This first family couldn't be any more deserving
23:41I was so stoked to help them out with it
23:43Let's take a look at your first room rescue
23:47Casey and Cam met five years ago
23:49After the heartbreak of losing their son at 25 weeks
23:53They now cherish the family of four
23:55They always dreamt of
23:56I'm a mum of a toddler
23:58With another one on the way
23:59I know how hard it is for a house to feel unfinished
24:03Did the kitchen
24:04Started this room
24:07That's where it stopped
24:08We had this little surprise down here
24:11Who come along?
24:12So time and money just went elsewhere
24:13We have had the walls plastered for about six months
24:17We have had a blanket as a curtain for about six months
24:21Also, this room needs to be rescued
24:25It got plastered when I was 38 weeks pregnant
24:28And it wasn't ideal
24:30But we needed to get it to a livable state before a newborn
24:34Yeah
24:34And from one kid to two kids
24:36No one tells you how hard it is
24:39It's a completely different spectrum
24:40Everything in that space was put on the back burner
24:42We had bigger priorities
24:44Bigger issues to worry about
24:46Okay, Casey's house
24:49This is a classic episode of
24:53Have a small family
24:54Then you have all these big plans to get things done
24:57And they just don't happen
24:59Wall's half done
25:01Floor's half done
25:02They've emptied out the space
25:04It's actually a little bit bigger than I thought
25:07We're at the gateway of the beautiful Yarra Valley here
25:10So I really want to bring those outside colours in
25:13Your soft greens, your sages, your terracottas
25:15And just make it a space where you just sit down with your family
25:20And it's chill
25:21And you walk in here and you're like
25:22Ah, I love my life
25:24First things first is painting
25:27The walls have been plastered and ready for months
25:30Time to get the job done
25:32A warm white will allow me to bring in pops of colour through the furniture
25:37And homewares and complement some much needed new flooring
25:40All right, Rowan
25:43The floors
25:44What are your first thoughts on them?
25:46So it is going to take a lot more work than we first thought
25:50A bit of grinding to do
25:52A bit of levelling to do to make it flat
25:53But we'll get there

25:58The last thing I want
25:59Is for Casey and Cam to walk around on bumpy creaky floors
26:03So good prep is essential
26:05Taking the time to prep properly means the finish will look amazing
26:09And last for years
26:11Laying over hardwood floors can be a touchy subject for some
26:21But the hardwood floors have seen way better days
26:25And moving forward with maintenance
26:27Keeping them clean
26:28They're the way to go and they're going to look amazing
26:30As much as I'd love to stick around and help
26:33A girl's got to shop
26:35All right, Casey's house
26:36Number one thing
26:37You need a comfortable couch
26:39We're tossing up between leather and fabric
26:44Leather's great because you can wipe it down
26:46But you can't go past
26:48Especially in Melbourne
26:49The warmth and comfort

39:30The very first step is to preheat this hot plate
39:32At home you can use a pan, flat top, barbecue outside

39:36We're using a wok burner today

39:39And we're going to make the sauce

41:25One giant meatball first
41:28And then we're going to split it to 80 gram balls
41:33Little bit of oil to our hot plate
41:36Just to stop it from sticking
41:38Beef ball
41:40Onto the plate
41:42This is a patty smasher
41:44This is going to be able to press everything on there
41:46So it gets the maximum contact onto that hot plate
41:50But this thing sticks
41:52So what you want to do is use a piece of parchment paper
41:55And press it on there
41:56Then it makes it nice and easy to pull it off
41:59There you go
42:00No stick and no mess
42:02Perfect smash burgers
42:04Anything that's on a hot plate
42:07If you can't hear that sizzle
42:08Then the fire's not hot enough
42:09You've got to turn it up a little bit
42:11And we're going to put the burger buns on
42:14Now once the cheese is melted
42:17The burger buns should be nice and soft
42:19And we're ready to plate up
