When Brighton sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea, the midfielder's former club profited beyond their wildest dreams!

00:00Chelsea paid £115 million to Moises Caicedo, but his boyhood club Independiente Di Valle

00:05retrieved £23 million of that. But they didn't just go splashing it on new players.

00:10When Caicedo left Independiente Di Valle for Brighton in 2021, they included a 20%

00:15sell-on clause. So when Brighton sold him to Chelsea in 2023, Di Valle managed to retrieve

00:2020% of that full fee, not just the profit like many sell-ons. They locked that money

00:24into a trust dedicated solely into their infrastructure and their youth teams. They're

00:28building a high-performance centre in Caicedo's hometown that even carries his name.

00:32Since then, they've added another pitch, expanded their stadium and built a player's residence.

00:37New offices, Marketing HQ, all funded by that one deal.

00:40So Independiente Di Valle are now a blueprint over in Ecuador for South American teams to

00:45be able to raise these young players, not just for the players, but to actually create

00:49a football club. This is now a financially sustainable model for clubs to be able to grow from being

00:54pretty much irrelevant in the grand scheme of football into becoming something special

00:58in the long run. So £23 million, no superstars signed, but just long-term growth. Would your
