00:00Now, U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order moving forward with the
00:04sale of TikTok's U.S. operations to American and global investors.
00:09Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance says the new U.S.-based company would be valued at
00:14around $14 billion, well below some analyst estimates for the popular short video platform.
00:21Now, the move is aimed at meeting national security requirements under a 2024 U.S. law.
00:27Trump also delayed enforcement of the law that could have banned TikTok in the U.S. until
00:33January 20. The extra time allows for the sale to be finalized, investors to be lined up and
00:40approval to be secured from the Chinese government. Key details remain, including ownership and
00:45control of TikTok's recommendation algorithm. The executive order says the algorithm will
00:51be retrained and monitored by U.S. security partners under the new joint venture.
00:55The order also outlines the Chinese owner Baikdance and its affiliates will hold less than 20%
01:02of the new entity. Trump said he discussed the plans with Chinese President Xi Jinping,
01:07who gave his approval to move forward.
01:25We've seen the Trump administration and the Chinese government sort of take this deal around TikTok.
01:30And really, it has become part of a larger negotiation around trade and economics geopolitically.
01:38Mayer said how the platform's new owners will impact users' experience remains to be seen.
01:44There's also this question, this larger question, that is really unanswerable at this time,
01:49in that if media moguls who have media companies that produce content are part of the deal,
01:56does their content then start showing up in people's feeds? And does the feed experience
02:02change for the individual user? Now, there are those who are arguing that it will. There's
