00:00Marlon Tyreek lovely to meet you well actually I will say you Marlon were the
00:05first person I ever interviewed like 15 years ago I'm sorry I know it was weird
00:11I used to do very weird interviews 15 years ago so I apologize if anything weird
00:17no no no because I was gonna say like I didn't know what I was doing back then I
00:22was like starting out I'm sure you did fine because if you was terrible I'd be
00:25like yo dude terrible yeah I was like you made me feel like super comfortable
00:34it's like my first interview that's how I made him feel when he came
00:38instead of him I was like oh I feel seen and just like an F and you know as as as
00:44a game and everything that you do for the community is incredible so it means a
00:48lot thank you I'll rep I'll rep I'll rep hard gang gang this I mean I'm just gonna
00:54say performances in this film are in credible like what you what you put on
00:59screen is yeah I don't want to like oversell it too well I really work very
01:04hard and what I loved about this film is that you know it borrows imagery from you
01:09know like Christ and discipleship and things like that like did you approach
01:13your roles as spiritual archetypes or as more as a commentary as to like how we
01:19worship celebrities and things like that I really didn't worry about all of that
01:26as much as I did what is it is what what dedication it takes to be great and what
01:32are you willing to sacrifice I prayed I knew that there was dark elements involved I
01:36prayed before I went to set every day and I would just make sure that I was in a
01:40great place and I I know what I was working toward and the goodness that Marlon was
01:48coming from yeah and so I would use that for the for Isaiah who was probably on
01:53the other side yeah yeah for me I leave the symbolism up to the filmmakers but
02:00rather I pour my own experience into the role of chasing greatness and I did that
02:06on all different aspects but like coming from younger days I wanted to be a
02:10soccer player you know and I I knew what it was like to want to see Ronald Daniel play
02:15in real life apparently him and Ronald Daniel friends yeah I saw it you missed
02:20out yeah but I just know that feeling of like looking up to somebody who who's
02:26doing what you love the most and wanting to to meet them and possibly be just as
02:32good hold a light to what they've done and I never approached something
02:35thinking I could be better than Marlon right I think I what Marlon has done is
02:40iconic and I'm standing on his shoulder so I just want to add to that and I think I
02:44think I think that's where Cameron Cade was was was coming from and you know
02:49he's Cameron's like pulled from his in a sanctum you know like did playing him did
02:55it change how you think about like entering Hollywood yourself as an up-and-comer
02:59yeah I think uh coming into the industry I think with any industry you're you're
03:06presented different routes and opportunities and I think yeah it's it's
03:10it's shine it did shine a light into you know how how bad do I really want things
03:16and what am I willing to sacrifice and I think there's a healthy balance to reach
03:21where I want to go in this industry where yes like to be like from Florida you're
03:26sacrificing the time and distance you can be spending with your time but yeah I
03:30think Cameron's journey with you know wanting to build a family up while also
03:35chasing uh greatness is something that it's made me think about this even more
03:40uh so yeah I think uh that you know um yeah I was gonna say something that just
03:48skipped my mind it's okay yeah it's okay no I know what you're gonna say no it's
03:53gonna be good sometimes it was gonna be good and now it's just like damn I missed it
03:57good and looking at your your characters like going separate from either
04:02conversations that you had with each other conversations that you had with
04:05Justin was there a either a line of dialogue that you wanted to present a
04:09certain way was there like piece of clothing that you specifically chose like
04:12a cologne that you specifically wore to make Cameron and Isaiah like very much
04:17tailored to to you I think we both had our own processes yeah I think and we were
04:22it's funny as much as we kind of work together I think our process was over here
04:29and over there yeah and you as as an actor you got to have respect for your
04:34fellow actors and just knowing that they're doing what they got to do to get
04:37there and then you're doing what you have to do to get there so you know for me
04:42Isaiah had a ritual every day you know I got up and walked a half hour and then
04:47when I came home I tried to walk a half hour and I would sit in red light
04:50therapy you know at least five to fifteen minutes a day just meditating and just
04:56owning what it is to be great and to be still and to think about the greatness so
05:01when I walk on set I feel that confidence I think for me a more tangible thing that
05:06allowed me to bring myself to the character was coming from a football
05:10place where I knew what it was like to touch the field and there were certain
05:14things I wouldn't allow like just to be put on me if I was on the football field
05:19like for instance like I didn't want knee pads in my pants I think that was a big
05:24thing or I wanted a specific sock length with the wrinkles because there's a you
05:28know there's being a football player and then there's being a football player with
05:32the the aura the swagger of being the number one draft pick and I think there's
05:37intentional things and then one it's funny you asked the bracelets I got to
05:42wear in any athletic scene that you watch was a personal piece of mine that
05:48commemorates my brother who passed away so I got to carry him with me in this film
05:53and to the point where it's even on the poster where I'm sitting down any poster
05:57you see it's there you might not be what you see it not when Oscar you gonna cry
06:02that's a lot of investment boy he got my brother
06:06yeah that's a testament to Justin tipping and monkey Paul Universal they allow the
06:14realness of who you are to be shown in the in the art and going off of you know that
06:20that whole thing of mentorship versus manipulation like was where do you sort
06:26of seen the line I guess between guiding someone and consuming them like did you
06:30find yourself sympathizing with you know Isaiah at all like no I actually didn't
06:35agree with Isaiah's process I'm the opposite you know I I reach with love
06:39right because I was raised in love but I also I'm a troll so that's where my abuse
06:46comes in is you know I would do trolly things and that would get on his nerves but that was
06:53kind of like hey welcome to the fraternity called love and lands and this is how we do
06:59it but I would never give him any kind of toxic advice or play any kind of mind games or things like
07:05that everything I did was ingest and joy so we could really just collaborate as brothers to feel
07:11good when we did this our scenes together well one of the things that being you being a trial is
07:17kind of great because if you did respond to everybody that had something some shit to say
07:20about oh yeah I'm a troll you mess with the wrong dude you say something about me and my kids oh I'm
07:28gonna be up all night one time someone said something about my daughter my child and man ice I must have
07:35stayed it was Christmas Eve and before they transition to can room daddy are you coming
07:41out it's like two o'clock in my dad it's gonna be Christmas soon I'll get to it we're gonna open
07:46gifts at five o'clock tomorrow night and I was just trolling people like you started this I'm gonna end
07:51it no no no no it's like we we we love we love to see it so much and I just and I just have to say
07:58like really this I went into this not really knowing what to expect and came out of it just absolutely
08:04like blown away for like your performances really are two of the best that I've seen this year and
08:10thank you the way that this film escalates I just I want everybody to just absolutely have their minds
08:14blown by it so thank you thank you both so much pleasure Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy worth the trip
