The movie is based on the true story of 17-year-old Lisa McVey, who was kidnapped and raped by serial killer Bobby Joe Long in 1984. Lisa uses reverse psychology to gain her captor's trust and eventually escapes. When she returns home, no one believes her story except for a veteran detective who realizes she was taken by a notorious serial killer.
