01:00America has become a second-rate power.

01:05Its trade deficit and its fiscal deficit are at nightmare proportions.

01:11Now, in the days of the free market, when our country was a top industrial power,

01:16there was accountability to the stockholder.

01:20The Carnegies, the Mellons, the men that built this great industrial empire made sure of it

01:26because it was their money at stake.

01:29Today, management has no stake in the company.

01:32All together, these men sitting up here own less than 3% of the company.

01:40And where does Mr. Cromwell put his million-dollar salary?

01:44Not in Teldar's stock.

01:45He owns less than 1%.

01:46You own the company.

01:49That's right.

01:50You, the stockholder, and you are all being royally screwed over by these bureaucrats

01:56with their steak lunches, their hunting and fishing trips, their corporate jets and golden parachutes.

02:02This is an outrage.

02:03You're out of line, Gecko.

02:05Teldar Paper, Mr. Cromwell, Teldar Paper has 33 different vice presidents,

02:11each earning over $200,000 a year.

02:16Now, I have spent the last two months analyzing what all these guys do,

02:22and I still can't figure it out.

02:25One thing I do know is that our paper company lost $110 million last year,

02:32and I'll bet that half of that was spent in all the paperwork going back and forth

02:36between all these vice presidents.

02:37The new law of evolution in corporate America seems to be survival of the unfittest.

02:48Well, in my book, you either do it right or you get eliminated.

02:55In the last seven deals that I've been involved with,

02:58there were 2.5 million stockholders who have made a pre-tax profit of $12 billion.

03:13I am a liberator of them.

03:17The point is, ladies and gentlemen,

03:20that greed, for lack of a better word, is good.

03:26Greed is right.

03:28Greed works.

03:29Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

03:36Greed, in all of its forms, greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge,

03:44has marked the upward surge of mankind.

03:46Greed, and greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar's paper,

03:53but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.
