Following the violence that erupted in Ladakh during a protest, police have arrested 50 people and are investigating a “larger conspiracy” behind the events.
00:00And there is big breaking news coming in related to the Ladakh protest.
00:04Sources are saying that Ladakh violence that erupted yesterday,
00:09there have been arrests and there is a doubt that there could be some Napoli's nationals who were part of it.
00:20Seven Napoli's nationals were actually injured in yesterday's protest.
00:24So now the police is probing, is there any role of these Napoli's nationals behind these attacks?
00:32Now police sources are saying that there was a larger conspiracy behind these attacks.
00:40Joining us now is India Today's Meer Fareed who is in Ladakh.
00:46Meer, do tell us what is the police saying?
00:50Apparently, not just these 10 Napoli citizens, there are almost 20 Napoli citizens that are on radar of the police.
00:59And the police are investigating a larger conspiracy angle as well.
01:09Yes, that's right.
01:10In fact, as the things stabilize, as the situation improves,
01:14you have a situation where now the post-mortem has started.
01:17What really led to this particular incident?
01:26Meer, we could hear you.
01:28There is no problem in your audio, but we will be coming back to you again.
01:33Let's just inform our viewers what is coming out right now.
01:38As far as sources are indicating,
01:41there are some Napoli's citizens who have been on the police's radar.
01:46It is believed that they could be instrumental in instigating this protest that we saw yesterday.
01:53Earlier, the protests have been largely peaceful.
01:55And suddenly, yesterday, there was violence reported.
02:00Going back to Meer Fareed who is there in Lai.
02:04Meer, do go on.
02:05You were informing us about how the police is tackling the angle of larger conspiracy.
02:09Yes, that's right.
02:16In fact, as things calmed down, now the post-mortem has started.
02:20What really led to this?
02:21Because as we have been repeating, we've been reporting about the fact that Lai has been very peaceful.
02:27Previously, whenever there have been protests, there have been peaceful.
02:29There has been no violence.
02:31Unprecedented violence happened yesterday.
02:34So, obviously, once things, the dust settles, now the security agencies, the administration is trying to find out what really led to this.
02:42Clearly, there are people inside who feel that this was not spontaneous.
02:46This was sponsored.
02:47This was planned.
02:48And there could be people in the system who, in short, stoke the violence.
02:53And they're trying to identify those people.
02:55So, all sorts of theories are open right now on the table.
02:58Each angle will be investigated.
03:00And as you rightly said, Nepalese, there are indications that there were many people, part of the protests, who are from Nepal.
03:07There are some who have been injured as well.
03:09At least six to seven protesters who have been injured are from Nepalese origin.
03:14So, that really is a new angle that the police is probing.
03:18And they're trying to find out whether there is a Nepal connection because we know what has happened in Nepal very recently with the Jain-Z protests.
03:25So, whether it was planned or someone behind the scenes, behind the curtains, was planning this.
03:31And once they found an opportunity, they just stoked this violence to the level we saw yesterday.
03:37So, that angle is being probed along with various other possibilities because this is an open investigation.
03:44And why definitely there were people, youngsters who joined this protest spontaneously.
03:50But there could be people who were stoking it with a plan and they knew that this hunger strike is on.
03:56So, this could turn bad because people are angry.
03:59People want their demands to be fulfilled.
04:01So, they tried to use the situation.
04:03So, that's an angle that the police is probing.
04:06And in the coming days, you'll see more angles and more starting revelations really coming up.
04:10Thank you, Amir, for all those details.
04:12And remember, 50 people are under arrest and police is investigating all angles in these protests.
