00:00Good morning, Mr. President.
00:02U.S. President Donald Trump is met with a crowd of reporters at the United Nations.
00:08What's the message you're bringing, one shouts.
00:10It's something the world is wondering, as Trump prepares to address this year's General Assembly.
00:15Many world leaders will do so, but few are as powerful or unpredictable.
00:22The answer is a mix.
00:24In about an hour-long speech, he attacked immigration in Europe,
00:27called green energy a con job, credited himself with stopping wars,
00:31questioned the very point of the UN, and more.
00:35Unlike his predecessor Joe Biden, he did not discuss Taiwan.
00:39And even China only got a few mentions for buying Russian oil and making wind turbines.
00:45One thing definitely on Trump's mind, though, is Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
00:49And after largely inconclusive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin,
00:53he says the U.S. is ready to put more pressure on Moscow,
00:56and that he expects Europe to chip in, particularly by stopping imports of Russian energy.
01:02In the event that Russia is not ready to make a deal to end the war,
01:06then the United States is fully prepared to impose a very strong round of powerful tariffs,
01:13which would stop the bloodshed, I believe, very quickly.
01:16But for those tariffs to be effective, European nations,
01:20all of you who are gathered here right now,
01:23would have to join us in adopting the exact same measures.
01:28Trump's stance on the Ukraine war, and NATO's role in it, looks to have shifted markedly.
01:33After his U.N. speech, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
01:37Before the meeting, the previously NATO skeptic Trump even told reporters he's now strongly behind
01:43the alliance, especially as Russian aircraft violate allies' airspace.
01:48Do you think that NATO countries should shoot down Russian aircraft if they enter their airspace?
01:54Yes, I do.
01:55And that's just the start of an apparent about-face.
01:59Trump once said Ukraine might have to give up territory to Russia to end the war.
02:02But in a social media post, he says Russia looks like a paper tiger,
02:07and suggested that Ukraine, with support, can get back to its pre-war borders.
02:14Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky didn't give much away about what the two discussed in their meeting.
02:20But in an exchange with a reporter, he had this to say about Trump.
02:24I said it from the first second of our today's meeting.
02:29I will not share all the details.
02:31But from your perspective, is it a game-changer that he now believes, that President Trump now believes?
02:37Trump is a game-changer by himself.
02:43Trump has taken a special interest in ending the three-year Russia-Ukraine war.
02:48And as of Tuesday, it seems like he's trying out a new tactic to get the job done.
