00:00Rwanda is making history, becoming the first African nation to host the prestigious UCI Cycling World Championships.
00:09The tournament's president says the milestone moment is sure to boost the growth of cycling on the continent.
00:17We've invited athletes from all African countries.
00:22In fact, Africa is the most represented continent here, with 36 countries taking part compared to 35 from Europe.
00:30So as you can see, Africa is the most represented. Africa is truly awakening to cycling.
00:36It already boasts some very talented athletes and we believe there will be a legacy.
00:40Through know-how, enthusiasm, athlete training and a UCI continental centre established right here, a strong foundation will be laid.

00:56It's true that cycling is historically rooted in Europe.
01:01Events like the Tour de France, the Giro Italia and the Great Classics are primarily based in Europe.

01:13When I met with President Kagame in February, I shared another dream of mine.
01:17After these World Championships, I hope the Tour de Rwanda can progress to the second tier of UCI events or even become part of the World Tour.
01:25I genuinely believe Rwanda has the capacity to host it.
01:28I'm also confident that athletes who experience these championships will want to return.
01:33So having a World Tour race in Africa, most likely in Rwanda, would be incredible.
