00:00Last time on Dev's House.
00:02Mama, I made it!
00:04Today, I'm having 15 up-and-coming vocalists
00:07battling it out for a spot in Dev's House.
00:10This is the new Dev's House R&B.
00:12I'm not telling anybody in the competition that I'm autistic.
00:15You never asked me. I'm not doing it.
00:17You got my mama, dog.
00:18This is probably not for you.
00:20Hey, don't go rescue it.
00:21I just want to apologize. That's not what I wanted to do.
00:25Got you, baby. You're good.
00:28Welcome to the city where the winners never sleep.
00:33A palace made of magic, now you're living out a dream.
00:38Had to get it out the moon so you can make it out the streets.
00:43Like a rose that grows up from the concrete.
00:48Welcome to Dev's House.
00:58I just want to apologize. That's not what I wanted to do.
01:03Yeah.
01:06It was more so about the intent, you know?
01:09Because when I came in the room, I just wanted to lay down,
01:13but I saw her unpacking. The whole closet was filled up.
01:16I felt left out, you know?
01:19You didn't like that you felt inconsidered.
01:21Is that something that you've experienced a lot before?
01:24My mom. Yeah.
01:27Even yesterday, after I won, I called me mommy.
01:32Oh, my God.
01:34What's your relationship like with your mom and Amber?
01:36Hi.
01:38Um, it could be a trigger for my childhood.
01:40Nobody's perfect, you know?
01:43She's a singer.
01:45This was her dream, too.
01:47Oh, my God. I want to hug her.
01:49Everybody here has something going on.
01:52We all do. I do.
01:53I have my moments that I'm down and I'm going through stuff.
01:57Like, because I do what I do don't mean that everything is great.
02:01I put a lot of years in with social service, being a case manager.
02:05And the one thing that I found out in this industry is that
02:08I have not gotten away from doing the same work.
02:11So, today, I want to work on flipping the script,
02:14build their confidence, and trying to throw away some of this trauma.
02:18Now, I'm going to get to learn some things about everybody.
02:21And I want to figure out challenges.
02:23I want to figure out who am I dealing with.
02:27So, who are we going to start with?
02:31I'm so serious.
02:32Like, I think I'm programmed, like, to just turn my feelings off
02:35and get them out of the way.
02:36And when it gets to the point where your feelings are overpowering,
02:39your ambition, it's crippling.
02:40Girl, do you want to do this or not?
02:44We all got a story.
02:45We all been hurt.
02:46We all going through something.
02:47But cry later.
02:48Girl, cry when you get a Grammy.
02:49I don't even know y'all.
02:50I'm uncomfortable.
02:51I'm uncomfortable.
02:52I'm not even going to lie.
02:53I'm uncomfortable.
02:54I'm very confident in who I am.
02:55I'm confident for what I stand for, my sound, everything.
02:58But I also know I'm not perfect, and I also know I don't know everything.
03:01So I really do want somebody that has that prowess to be like, yeah, this is where you kind of fall short.
03:08Hi, I'm Tara.
03:10I'm a recovering addict.
03:12That life is crazy.
03:14Through that time, I was in prostitution.
03:18Thank God for this second chance.
03:21I've been clean for eight years.
03:22My biggest supporter through my struggles up until now was my mother until my mother passed.
03:28Now it's my dad.
03:29I have support, and I thank God for that support.
03:32I didn't have a childhood.
03:34My innocence was taken by four men at one time at eight years old.
03:40So I grew up, both of my parents was pill heads.
03:44So I ain't have nobody to talk to.
03:46I ain't have nobody to throw my pain or say I'm disheartening me.
03:49I ain't have nobody for that.
03:52So I ain't never get to heal from that.
03:54You feel me?
03:55For real, that's just, that was powerful.
03:58You see some of this stuff?
04:00These are the records I want to do in real time of what's going on today.
04:05Because we don't have meaningful records anymore.
04:08Y'all listen to Marvin Gray and Teddy Pendergrass.
04:11They talked about all the things that was going on.
04:14That's what we need.
04:15But in this case, they're releasing.
04:18You're letting go.
04:20Now there's some emptiness going on inside of there.
04:23Now let's fill it up with some love.
04:25I need everybody tonight to get your journals over here.
04:30And y'all gonna write.
04:31And then tomorrow will be work, okay?
04:34Yes.
04:35That's good.
04:42Let's go here, let's go there, just to be me.
04:49Held on to my pain for way too long.
04:55I'm praying to God that he'd just take me home.
05:00But I'm letting it go.
05:03After the big meeting with Deb, it was a big relief off my shoulders.
05:07So immediately I went upstairs and wrote everything I was filling on paper.
05:11It was therapeutic.
05:13I never felt so relieved in my life.
05:22Hey ladies!
05:25How are y'all feeling?
05:28We're good!
05:30Alright, so I need y'all ready to dress in 15 minutes, put on some athletic gear.
05:35I'm not a workout type of girl.
05:38I don't like to work out.
05:39And I'm going to send a driver to pick you ladies up, okay?
05:42Alright.
05:43For our next challenge, I can't tell you what it is.
05:45Just be ready.
05:46Okay.
05:47There's two things going on in my mind.
05:49Okay, if it's physical activity, I know I'm good to go.
05:52Because Titi got her wind up a little bit.
05:55But, is this going to be strenuous?
05:58Because I like to stay looking cute.
06:00Bye!
06:01Bye!
06:06Everybody thinks that all you have to do is go into a studio to sing.
06:10Incorrect.
06:10There's so many stages that you have to get to that point of where you can do a show for 45 minutes straight.
06:17And guess what that takes?
06:19Training.
06:20That's what we do at Deb's House.
06:22Training.
06:24Message.
06:25We're going to push them to the limit.
06:26We've got to know what you're going to do when you're under pressure.
06:29That's where you're going to go when you get in this industry.
06:31I've got to know that you can handle it.
06:33So I know you guys remember Regina Love from last season.
06:36A-E-I-O-U-M-A-I-N-E.
06:40She also has the most watched battle on The Voice.
06:43Regina's job is to dig in and pull out something out of it that they don't even know that they have in them.
06:50But one thing about it and two things to show you know they're going to be breathing correctly.
06:55So you're going to let us do what we do?
06:56Right.
06:56Just do it.
06:57Do it.
06:58Okay.
06:58Brandon Barnes, my godson.
07:00Most of you know him from growing up hip-hop.
07:03Brandon has worked with Kirk Franklin's background singers, Zanique, that's T.I. Tiny's daughter, Cash Doll.
07:10Brandon's also artist development.
07:14And that is something that artists do not get today.
07:19Let's go, ladies.
07:21Let's go.
07:23Immediately, what the hell?
07:25There's jump ropes, sweat towels.
07:28I'm like, the hell does this have to do with singing?
07:30Is Brandon on my left?
07:33And Regina on the right?
07:35Hey, Gina.
07:35This here is going to show me where you're really at and who can really do this.
07:42Guess what the golden mic stands for?
07:44Safety.
07:45Safety.
07:46Today, someone will get a golden mic, and they will be safe from elimination.
07:52You got to work really hard to get that golden mic.
07:55I want the golden mic, but, you know, we're going to see how this plays out.
07:58I don't know what they're having us doing.
07:59Y'all got to break up in teams.
08:01I don't do that.
08:02I can't sing.
08:04Yeah?
08:06Have fun, guys.
08:09I'm watching.
08:09I'm watching, though.
08:12I need everybody to sing hello.
08:14Hello.
08:15Hello.
08:16Hello.
08:17Hello.
08:18Hello.
08:19Hello.
08:20Hello.
08:21Hello.
08:22Hello.
08:22Do your hello again.
08:24Hello.
08:25Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
08:28I'm going to pick you because you need a little work right here.
08:30Let's do it.
08:31These women are coming in with a lot of baggage, so I want to get them past some of their drama.
08:37Kimberly.
08:38Bro, you.
08:40Dacia, I'll take you.
08:41Come on, baby.
08:41Come over here with me, you guys.
08:44They all got empathy from me in reference to their past and the various things that they've
08:50all been through, but not to sound cold, I need to know that they can move past that.
08:55So listen, the whole purpose of this, in my opinion, it goes way beyond breathing.
08:59Let's go.
09:00Arms apart.
09:01Lift up your right leg.
09:02We need to stretch because you're about to start running, all right?
09:05I done got two hours of sleep.
09:07I want to go sit down.
09:08I need a little power in that.
09:10What the hell?
09:11Make a fist, all right?
09:14Everybody say, ha!
09:15Ha!
09:15When I started off hello, I want you to give me the note that should go next.
09:21One, go.
09:21Hello.
09:22Hello.
09:22Hello.
09:25Right from here.
09:26Yes, ma'am.
09:26I need you to breathe.
09:27Inhale.
09:29Wrong.
09:31Breathe.
09:32Inhale.
09:32Regina is so passionate and so in your face.
09:36What's your stomach doing?
09:37Going up.
09:38No.
09:39Wrong.
09:40You kind of don't have a choice but to learn because she's like, do it again!
09:43Shoulders don't move, your neck don't move, nothing moves, just that diaphragm.
09:48It's a muscle that we're building.
09:51Come up with your arms until you reach me, all right?
09:54Somebody's uncoordinated.
09:55Kimberly, those are fake moves.
09:57Pick up your jump rope.
09:58I want you guys to hum your ABCs.
10:03I ain't jump rope for a long time.
10:05Wait a minute.
10:05Kim, not looking so good, baby.
10:07Not looking so good.
10:08I'm not here for no food.
10:09I've been scrambling all my life.
10:10All I know is the struggle.
10:11You can or you won't, baby?
10:16Kimberly has this thing because she's in her 40s that she can't do this.
10:20Kimberly, breathing sucks, baby.
10:22In through your nose, out through your mouth, babe.
10:24But that's what they say out there.
10:26Kimberly has performed with artists such as Faith Evans, with Tank, and the list goes on.
10:33Get out your head, Kim.
10:34Get out of there.
10:35Hello.
10:36Come back to me.
10:37Everybody caught they breath?
10:38Yes.
10:39Y'all feel good?
10:40Yeah.
10:40Y'all glad that the running is over?
10:41Yeah.
10:42Well, guess what?
10:42It's not running again.
10:44Run it, run it, run it.
10:45Sit them all home, Debbie, at this point.
10:47Sit them all home.
10:50I want you to sing your ABCs in a circle while you're jump roping.
10:54Oh, Lord.
10:55I don't know about that.
10:57What the hell?
10:59This ain't gonna work.
11:00Come on, AJ.
11:01You can do it.
11:01I ain't got no balance.
11:02Yes, you do.
11:04Yes, you got everything you need.
11:05All right.
11:06Come on.
11:07Hey.
11:07That's all right.
11:08That's all right.
11:09You can do it.
11:10AJ as a kid was a broken soul who didn't get to be a kid, so I grew up fast.
11:15And my childhood ended at eight years old.
11:17I have a jump rop since third grade.
11:18That's a fact.
11:20So I kind of forgot how to jump rop.
11:22Come on.
11:23You got this, baby.
11:24I believe in you.
11:25You got it, baby.
11:26Let's go.
11:27That's why I'm here.
11:27That's why we here.
11:28You got it.
11:29ABC.
11:30ABC.
11:31TV.
11:32Yes.
11:32You got it.
11:33You got it.
11:34Come on.
11:34I know every time AJ can't get somewhere because she turns red as a beat.
11:40She gets red.
11:41She starts that crying.
11:42We're not going to.
11:43No, we're not having that.
11:45Let's go, AJ.
11:46You can do this.
11:47I believe in you.
11:48You got it, baby.
11:49It's okay.
11:50You're okay.
11:51You can tell you something.
11:51You're okay.
11:52You're okay.
11:52That's why we're here.
11:54I'm here to pull this out of you.
11:56I'm here so that you can do.
11:59There's nothing that you can't do.
12:00Can't is not in our vocabulary.
12:02Do you understand?
12:05In my brain, I'm trying to concentrate on my feet.
12:08Trying to concentrate on my ABC.
12:10Trying to focus on what I sound like.
12:11Let's go.
12:12Gotta go step by step.
12:14Come on.
12:14Let's go.
12:15A, D, C.
12:16Don't ever let nobody tell you what you can't do.
12:19Because you can do anything you want to do.
12:21Stupid.
12:22This is stupid.
12:23Failure is not an option.
12:30I want you to sing your ABCs in a circle while you're jump roping.
12:34I ain't got no balance.
12:35Yes, you do.
12:36Come on.
12:37Come on.
12:39A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
12:43Yes.
12:43That's fine.
12:45I just flunked this challenge.
12:47It was hard.
12:48It was hard.
12:49And I failed multiple times.
12:51I want you to do this like, A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
12:56Make it yours.
12:57Oh, A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
13:04Come on, brothers.
13:05H, I, J, K.
13:07Make me feel it.
13:08L, M, N, O, P.
13:10Q, R, S.
13:12Come on.
13:13Q, D, W, A, Y, Z.
13:19Know what?
13:21I know my baby.
13:29You know you was a little pitchy, but I like that.
13:33You was a little pitchy, but I like that.
13:35But I see where you're going, you know?
13:37I started getting classical training at nine years old.
13:39I did it for two years.
13:40And then after that, I just kind of let that carry me,
13:43do my vocal warm-ups.
13:44I think that the texture of my voice is unique.
13:46I know that God gave me a purpose.
13:48and I know that he gave me a plan.
13:50Obviously, this is a part of the plan
13:51because here I am.
13:53Don't be afraid to take chances.
13:55Singing is an emotion.
13:57That's what y'all have to understand.
13:58It could put you in many moods.
14:01I felt something different from each person
14:03that I listened to.
14:05And I could also know when you're nervous.
14:08I could tell.
14:10Because it tells within your singing.
14:12This might be hard for a few of them,
14:14but this determines who stays and who goes home.
14:16Let's get it going.
14:19All right.
14:19All right, I need y'all to lay down.
14:21So I'm going to have you raise your legs six inches
14:25and sing Mary Had a Little Lamb.
14:29So one person each time, okay?
14:31And what you're doing is I need you to tighten your diaphragm
14:34while you're doing it because you're building that muscle, okay?
14:37All right, let's go.
14:39Mary had a little lamb.
14:41Hold them legs up.
14:41Little lamb.
14:42Uh-huh.
14:43Little lamb.
14:44Yes!
14:44Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow.
14:50Yes!
14:51Okay, tighten the diaphragm.
14:52Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow.
14:55Okay, okay, okay.
14:56Everybody at the same time.
14:58Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb.
15:03Mary had a little lamb, and his face was right as snow.
15:08Put him down!
15:09What we doing?
15:10Come on, come on, come on, come on.
15:11What we doing?
15:12Just breathe.
15:13Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:14You got a crown?
15:15Ah!
15:16Do me a favor.
15:17Walk it off.
15:18Walk it off.
15:19Thank you, baby.
15:20I dropped out of college for this, so I made a promise to myself
15:23that if you are not going to be in school,
15:25you have got to give this your 110%.
15:29Everybody asks what you're willing to sacrifice.
15:31My own pity.
15:32So I have no choice but to be good at this.
15:35Let's go, ladies!
15:37I need y'all to stop asking,
15:39how'd that person get the golden mic?
15:40This is called Deb's house.
15:42My rules, my house, period.
15:46Each one of y'all sound different,
15:48and each one of y'all bought something different
15:50to make me feel.
15:51I do have my eyes on the golden mic.
15:54I see a golden mic.
15:56Now my stomach is dropping.
15:59So today,
16:01I give the golden mic to AJ.
16:06Congratulations, AJ!
16:09What's up, AJ?
16:10Everyone in this house is soulful,
16:12very talented, like, church singers.
16:14I'm this little white girl,
16:16little emotional, soft singer,
16:18soft singer.
16:19So I felt really grateful to receive that gold mic.
16:21Oh, baby!
16:22Good job, baby!
16:23I want you to know, AJ, I'm not giving up on you.
16:27I want to cry for her.
16:29If you keep making me cry,
16:31I'm gonna tear your ass up.
16:33Listen.
16:34Okay, I'm tired of crying.
16:35I know that this is hard for you, AJ,
16:37but I want you to keep doing this because you can do it.
16:40When I give you this,
16:41you're gonna tell me that you're gonna start living life.
16:44You're gonna start living life.
16:46And don't say yes, ma'am, to me.
16:50This is yours.
16:51Thank you so much.
16:52Come on, AJ!
16:57I'm not even mad that AJ died.
16:59You know why?
17:00Because, bless her little heart,
17:01she was struggling.
17:03You safe.
17:04You safe.
17:05Okay, guys.
17:06I'll see y'all tonight.
17:07Go on, AJ!
17:10Woo!
17:18These muffins have been uncovered for two days.
17:20It's unsanitary.
17:21I'm gonna put them in the trash, okay?
17:23Y'all sniffling and snorting and shit.
17:25What is your ethnicity?
17:26Just black?
17:27No, no, no, no.
17:28My mom's white.
17:29I have a dad who's black and my mom is white,
17:32but we were brought up as though we were solely black.
17:36My dad's from New Orleans,
17:37so very jazz-influenced household,
17:38neo-soul, gospel.
17:40And then went to a school
17:41where racism was very much prevalent.
17:44So I think my singing journey has been unique to me.
17:47Okay, I think this is straight.
17:49All right, who do I, where's the manager?
17:50I need my pay.
17:55Hey, hey, hey.
17:56Ladies!
17:57Ladies!
17:58Ladies!
17:59Living nations are not easy for me.
18:01So I asked Brandon and Regina to go to the house
18:03to do a final evaluation.
18:05I have cameras set up like an eye in the sky.
18:08I don't want anybody to go, but somebody got to go.
18:15So we're gonna be testing y'all ranges
18:17and also just to kinda help us have a better understanding
18:20of who you are as an individual,
18:23but also as an entertainer, okay?
18:26Having the golden mic is definitely a big comfort,
18:30just knowing that you're safe.
18:31Today was a rough day,
18:33and I was scared to send myself home today.
18:37Well, I think we were all kinda a little nervous,
18:39but to be honest, I think I'll stay in the house after this.
18:42So listen, I need y'all 100% focused.
18:45This is the real thing right now.
18:46Stand up for me, please.
18:47All right, guys.
18:50Simple scale.
18:51AJ, we're gonna start with you
18:52and we're gonna go down the line, okay?
18:55Do y'all know your vowels?
18:56A-E-I-O-U.
18:58A-E-I-O-U.
18:59A-E-I-O-U.
19:12A-E-I-O-U.
19:17A-E-I-O-U.
19:24Take it up.
19:25Hey, I hold you.
19:32Thank you for worship.
19:34Good call.
19:34Good call.
19:35Hey, I hold you.
19:48You, hey, oh, I, oh, who?
20:01Hey, I hold you.
20:13Hey, I hold you.
20:17I hold you.
20:22Good job, baby.
20:24Hey, I hold you.
20:32Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:35Hey, I hold you.
20:45Woo!
20:46Amber and I's vocal styles are very, very different.
20:49She's not a powerhouse.
20:51Ladies, go ahead.
20:52Can everybody have a seat really quick?
20:55AJ is finally back in the house.
20:57Yippee!
20:59Where the ATL did she go?
21:01And Amber and Audrey, they held theirs, too.
21:05Kim has been really in a struggle,
21:07but she got it together.
21:09I'm quite surprised with Terry E.
21:11A little shaky.
21:12But Devin is definitely pitchy.
21:15And this is not the first time.
21:17OK, boo.
21:18These looks ain't getting you nowhere here today.
21:23What you all just experienced, right?
21:26Deliverance.
21:27Was a major breakthrough.
21:28Yes.
21:29Just feeling the energy of the house
21:31and looking around and everything.
21:33I honestly feel like I'm the only one that's not nervous.
21:36And I've realized after this exercise
21:38that I try to stay in a zone where I'm comfortable,
21:41even though that I know I can reach way damn higher.
21:45I just have a failure.
21:46I think a failure.
21:47What is fear?
21:49Bullshit.
21:51I need you to stand up and say,
21:53I want to reintroduce myself.
21:54Whatever you do.
21:55You want the boo on there?
21:56OK, all right.
21:57Yeah, that's right.
21:58Come on, come on.
21:59Come have me.
22:00Uh-oh.
22:01Who is this?
22:02Somebody coming in.
22:03I said, this age ain't no fear in fear of some bullshit.
22:09Take that hat off.
22:10Oh, Lord.
22:11So I need that hat to stay off.
22:13Because you hide behind that hat.
22:17I do kind of hide behind my hat.
22:20My hat makes me feel secure.
22:22People say, why are you dressed like that?
22:25Why are you so masculine?
22:26Why you got all them tattoos?
22:27And to me, for myself, it's how I feel comfortable
22:30because I feel like it's my shield for men.
22:32I would definitely mold it who I am right now.
22:34And it definitely shows in my music
22:37because I write music from the heart.
22:40And that's why I try to write music that people relate to.
22:47You be underneath that hat hiding.
22:50But I see every time something happen
22:52and you become more comfortable,
22:54I see that redness in your face.
22:56I'm white, Miss Del.
22:57Yeah, that got nothing to do with it.
23:00AJ has been confined within herself for so long,
23:05she don't even know how to come out.
23:07And finally, she's blooming.
23:10Look at that flower bloom.
23:12How are y'all?
23:13Good.
23:14Ladies, you all did an amazing job.
23:16I want all of you all to know that, OK?
23:19All right.
23:20Let's go.
23:21Somebody has to go home.
23:23And one of you will be leaving Deb's house tonight.
23:25All these ladies can sing,
23:27but not everybody's going to go to the next level.
23:30And today, we're going to make some decisions
23:32on who can stay and who has to go.
23:35I'm sorry, but you're eliminated.
23:44All right.
23:46Let's go.
23:47Somebody has to go home.
23:49And one of you will be leaving Deb's house tonight.
23:52I gave AJ the golden mic,
23:54and she will be safe from elimination.
23:56Brandon and Regina, what did you come up with?
24:03Ashley, she just got this baby for us.
24:05It gives me Ciara.
24:07We already have a Ciara.
24:08I want to do this.
24:09Devin, a beautiful voice.
24:17When it comes to you vocally,
24:18I think that it's a bunch of restraint coming from you.
24:21We can teach you how to do whatever run,
24:23how to do whatever harmony it is.
24:26But once you get up here,
24:28that's the hardest thing for anybody to compete with, OK?
24:32That's why you would be my option, OK?
24:36I said I really wanted to work more with you.
24:40Mm-hm.
24:41But you have a...
24:43It's something that's not letting you
24:46break through a little bit.
24:48But I would have to agree.
24:51This one is hard for me.
24:54Like, super hard for me.
24:57Devin, I'm sorry, but you're eliminated.
25:02I'm really grateful that I got to come here, though.
25:04I did not want you to go anywhere.
25:08I still felt like you needed some time.
25:11But we don't have a lot of time.
25:13Devin leaving grabbed me by my throat.
25:19Take what you got.
25:20You keep what you got.
25:21And you learn some of that.
25:23I know for me, it's like, dang, like, it's goal time.
25:25Like, she's not playing.
25:26Like, they're not playing with us.
25:30I feel really blessed, honestly.
25:31The feedback that I was given was that I was pitchy,
25:35which I was, OK?
25:36And also that there was a lot of restraint there.
25:40Those were the very things that I was looking to
25:42get feedback on when I got here.
25:45Because it's like, now I already know where I need to work.
25:49So it's like, the moment I get home, I'm working on it.
25:52I don't want to go back.
25:54I don't want to fall back.
25:55I don't want to lose myself again.
25:57Mama calling back again.
25:59Friends is checking in again.
26:01Building walls back up again.
26:02Make my face my grades again.
26:04Tell me when this pressure is.
26:06I don't want to go back to the feeling of love.
26:10I don't want to go back to the feeling of love.
26:14OK, ladies.
26:15So everybody can go be a Tisha.
26:20So I have these MP3 players for all of you.
26:23On these, it's a beat.
26:24Your task is to write a song to the beat on your MP3 players.
26:27And also, ladies, if you wanted to swap it.
26:31Are you serious?
26:32But you guys have to, that's something
26:33you guys have to decide amongst yourselves.
26:36A part of R&B is pain.
26:38I would like to see how they can turn their pain
26:40into some soulful music.
26:43That's going to tell me how quickly you can grow.
26:46All right, ladies, get to work.
26:52I'm a little hard on myself.
26:54So it takes a little while for me to come up with lyrics to a song.
27:00But when it comes to melodies, I'm really strong in that area.
27:04I don't know what you're thinking.
27:06You try to pull me down, but you're sinking.
27:10My father, in particular, is a stickler on writing music the right way
27:16and listening to what we call real music that has substance and depth.
27:21You know, I'm bringing all of those things to any table.
27:25I've been on.
27:26I've been on.
27:28Love translates into music just by your experiences or, again,
27:33things you've seen or witnessed.
27:34You write about it and you put it in a song.
27:36And that's how it transfers into music.
27:38Made it still going strong.
27:42For a long time, my songwriting process was like,
27:45I gotta make a hit.
27:46I gotta, this gotta rhyme with this.
27:47There are times when I songwrite that I write
27:49as if I'm having a conversation with myself.
27:51And you'll be very surprised to know and understand
27:54that lyrics are really just that simple.
27:56Like, you don't have to overthink it.
28:05All right.
28:09That's a tough one.
28:10But you literally can like tell it.
28:12There's a lot going on.
28:13It's not even like it's a beat.
28:14It's very busy.
28:15It's not even like it's a beat.
28:16It's just a lot of shit in the fucking shit.
28:18I really like the beat that I received.
28:21I like simplicity.
28:23Simplicity with like a, a bang.
28:27How are you doing?
28:28Oh, God.
28:29You took at me horrible.
28:30Did you hear mine?
28:32No.
28:33Mine is probably worse than yours.
28:35Yours is probably better than mine.
28:36You have a guitar in your shit.
28:37OK, well, you might like this one then.
28:38Just this one.
28:39Because this one, for me, it's not sitting right.
28:41I fucking love this.
28:43I was thinking about you and I was going to do it.
28:45Did you have that?
28:46I know these don't sound like traditional art.
28:48B beats.
28:49But I must take you out of your element.
28:52Let me see what you able to bring.
28:54Thank you, Jesus.
28:57AJ came to my room.
28:59She asked me if she wanted to switch.
29:01So we ended up switching beats.
29:04I was going to make it work if we did switch.
29:06But I was really grateful for her coming to my door.
29:10You like your beat, Deja?
29:11Yeah.
29:12I just switched with AJ, actually.
29:14What do you mean you just switched with AJ?
29:16You could switch.
29:18Yeah, you could switch.
29:19It's different for me.
29:20It's challenging.
29:21Maybe that's why I like it a little bit.
29:23You say you're a professional.
29:24It's what you do, right?
29:25That's going to happen in the industry.
29:26Not everything that you do or every feature,
29:28every show and everything, you don't love the record
29:32or whatever it is.
29:33It looks weak to me.
29:34All right, girl.
29:38You are the one I try to call whenever I'm low.
29:44I still can fly.
29:47She won't fly.
29:49I'll fly.
29:51Fly.
29:53We getting to the point where competition is starting
29:56to get thick.
29:57Yeah.
29:58You know what I'm saying?
29:59And I've noticed some true colors are coming out.
30:02Low key, it's looking like Amber,
30:04she's going to win like she's a plant.
30:05I overheard two women talking in the bathroom.
30:09They think I'm in cahoots with Miss Deb and this, that,
30:12and the third, which none of it is true.
30:15A whole lot of activity going on in this house.
30:17It don't have nothing to do with this competition.
30:19Extra, extra activity.
30:20I didn't come here for that.
30:21I didn't either.
30:22You faking it, it's going to come out one way or another.
30:24The truth always comes out.
30:31So I gave all the girls music journals,
30:34they also have beat players.
30:36Today, they'll perform their songs for the first time.
30:39I need to see how confident you are.
30:41I need to see stage presence.
30:43So let's see what they got.
30:46Y'all think it's going to be another elimination today?
30:48Oh, yeah.
30:49I do.
30:50Knockin' them out one by one is crazy.
30:53Hey, ladies!
30:54Hey!
30:56The energy feels good today.
30:58For today's challenge, right?
31:01All of you have been working on your songs.
31:03So today, you're going to perform the song that you wrote
31:06to the beat.
31:07Like, you want us to what?
31:10We're actually going to be performing the song
31:12that we wrote less than 24 hours ago.
31:14So Miss Deb wants everyone here to get makeovers.
31:19So she's sending over her glam squad.
31:20They'll be here shortly.
31:21Today is about stage presence and confidence.
31:25One thing about them, two things to show.
31:27You know, a lady get her hair done, get some makeup on.
31:29You ain't telling her nada.
31:31Who has the same beats?
31:33I have the same as Kim, right?
31:34Yeah, we have the same beats.
31:35Me and Ashley got the same beat.
31:36Me and you have the same beats?
31:37And Dacia and Amber are the same.
31:39Yeah.
31:40Oh, baby, I kept my beat.
31:41I played it because I'm dope.
31:42I kept my beats.
31:43Dacia, she is trying to get out of my skin.
31:46She's intimidated because we have the same beat.
31:48You got to pay attention to that one.
31:50You got to understand.
31:51I hate the beat.
31:52Baby, it's extra.
31:55Lock everybody else out.
31:56I definitely am.
31:57Yeah.
31:58I'm getting to them more than they're getting to me.
32:00So I don't even care.
32:02She over here trying to double down the beat.
32:04I don't even like this beat.
32:06This beat ain't my type of beat.
32:07That, that, that, that, that, that, that, that.
32:09Basically trying to throw me off.
32:12And I already see the game.
32:13Fake eyes, little scrawny eyes, little pecan, peak,
32:18whatever the fuck, ugh.
32:19Trying to keep it together.
32:22It's fucking hard.
32:27Sorry, I didn't want you.
32:28You OK?
32:30Yeah, I'm fine.
32:30What's wrong?
32:32You just, yeah.
32:33It's just a lot.
32:34And then there's people attacking me.
32:35Who was attacking you?
32:37Dasha.
32:38I peeped that once we realized y'all had the same beat.
32:41And then I overheard her.
32:43And I think it was Tara in the bathroom talking about me.
32:46Since then, she's been throwing me shit
32:48that she got in my spot on the van.
32:50She trying to throw me off.
32:51Oh, I peeped that.
32:52We had assigned seats on the bus.
32:54We walk out the door.
32:56We get in the van.
32:57And lo and behold, guess who sits in my seat?
32:59Dacia.
33:00Don't be trying to switch up the seats now.
33:02I'm not doing that shit today.
33:03I'm not doing that shit today.
33:04I'm not.
33:05It's too much.
33:06It's too much.
33:06I'm not doing all that shit today.
33:07I can't.
33:08Climbing and all that in the back.
33:09Ah, yeah.
33:09She's going to try anything and everything to piss me off.
33:13You're doing everything in your power to get some type of reaction.
33:17Reaction.
33:18I did peep that dog.
33:19I think it's pretty whack to do that.
33:21It just seems like you're, like, intimidated or lack confidence
33:25because you think that they're going to win.
33:27That's just silly.
33:28I'm not a stupid bitch.
33:30What the fuck are you talking about?
33:32You getting yourself right now?
33:33This is petty.
33:34This is goofy.
33:35Like, this is high school, yo.
33:36You got to chill.
33:38It's always that pressure.
33:39That pressure.
33:40That pressure going exposed.
33:45I'm thinking about you, ma'am.
33:47You should think about what you got to fucking do.
33:50Instead of trying to fucking damper my shit.
33:52The fuck is wrong with you?
33:54I walk in the door.
33:55Amp is very emotional.
33:56She's having a meltdown.
33:58Here we go.
34:02Are you OK?
34:03Yeah, I'm fine.
34:04So why are we here?
34:05I was just a little overwhelmed.
34:06Oh, what's the matter?
34:08I overheard Deja in the bathroom talking about me.
34:11I feel like it's a setup.
34:13Like, I guess she thought something was going on between you and I.
34:16OK, come on.
34:17Let's go.
34:18I don't want to hear no more.
34:19Let's go.
34:20Why are y'all calling Amber a plant?
34:22What the hell is a plant?
34:24What does that mean?
34:25Now y'all making me feel like this is the 90-day lockup.
34:29Y'all watch a lot of dead reality TV.
34:32OK, let me have everybody.
34:34I need everybody.
34:35I need everybody.
34:36I need everybody.
34:37I don't know, Amber.
34:38I met everybody, everybody in this room I met on TikTok.
34:45I don't know one person.
34:47I don't know where that came from.
34:48I don't know where that came from either.
34:50Because she's uncomfortable because she overheard you in a conversation about her.
34:54She didn't overhear me say anything about you knowing her because I didn't say that.
34:58I want to clarify things.
34:59I'm not upset.
35:00I'm trying to explain it.
35:01I'm not upset.
35:02I'm saying like I didn't say that so I can't explain to you what that was meant.
35:04I didn't say that.
35:05What did she say?
35:06I overheard talking in your bathroom.
35:10But you overheard who though?
35:11Because several people come in my bathroom.
35:12I shared bathroom with you.
35:13Well, you would have let me know there's four people in that bathroom.
35:15I'm asked stop talking.
35:16Who was in Deja's bathroom this morning?
35:21You know how a cricket sound?
35:23That room's so goddamn quiet.
35:25Everybody washed their ass in the pool this morning because apparently there wasn't nobody
35:30in the bathroom.
35:31So nobody want to fess up?
35:33So all signs point to you, Deja.
35:35I'm sorry.
35:36All signs point to...
35:37Okay, so now you're not making sense because if nobody else was in the bathroom with me,
35:41who am I talking to?
35:42So what am I doing?
35:43If you thought this was an issue this morning you could have talked to me this morning.
35:45I would have been like, what you talking about?
35:46But you've been doing nothing but being shady to me.
35:48Are you kidding me?
35:49No.
35:50I don't do the snishing, the name dropping, the finger pointing.
35:54I know the conversation, what I said about her.
35:56But you ain't get feelings because you think people talking about you, you want to know
36:00who said what and what's going on.
36:01You worry about the wrong thing.
36:03They're going to keep talking about you.
36:04Everybody's going to talk about you.
36:05Huh?
36:06I ain't going to hold you shorty.
36:07You don't know me.
36:08Like, I don't even move like that.
36:09If I would have said that sweetheart, I would have put you aside and had a conversation with you.
36:11I don't believe you.
36:12Ma'am, you still lied.
36:14And that's why, I'm sorry because you make me this mad.
36:17That's why you got that one yellow tooth because you're lying.
36:19People who lie, breath stink.
36:21Period.
36:22For the record, I don't script nothing.
36:25I don't sit up here and pretend nothing.
36:27I don't do any of that kind of stuff.
36:30That's why I'm not in there with y'all because I want each one of y'all to be exactly who you really are.
36:35Because if I'm in there, you go front.
36:37Everybody knows I do not do drama.
36:40Here's how I go.
36:41Bags packed.
36:43Flights booked.
36:44Lights dropped.
36:45That's it.
36:46There's no more fun.
36:47I shouldn't hear laughing.
36:48I shouldn't hear nothing.
36:49If I have bullshit, we'll start being eliminated now.
36:52How are y'all feeling about those songs?
37:02I'm not for like, wanna be honest?
37:03Wanna be honest on the beat?
37:04It's not a guy.
37:05It's intense.
37:06That beat is fire.
37:08Listen, it's not fire.
37:11It's important just for me to highlight that I play the cards that I'm dealt.
37:17But then somebody boo-hooing, why is this beat?
37:20It's just really hard.
37:21I don't know.
37:22So for me, just keep in mind, that was the original beats that I didn't complain about.
37:28It doesn't change.
37:29There's no climax to it.
37:30And then it's a loop.
37:31It doesn't have like a build.
37:32Maybe it's extra.
37:33You did it though.
37:34I'm not even stunting this lady.
37:36Like, you feel me?
37:37We might have had the same beat or whatever, but I was not stunting you.
37:42Not one bit.
37:43Okay, Dacia?
37:44Y'all better cut that shit out.
37:47So what are they singing today?
37:49I don't know.
37:50I wouldn't be surprised.
37:51Asked Gina Love to join me today.
37:54Music is an emotion.
37:56And this is the best way for some healing to be done is for them to start writing to some of the things that they're going through.
38:02Put them in words.
38:09I'm just too emotional to remember the lyrics that I wrote down in my book.
38:14So we're just going to think of some other lyrics on the spot while the beat is playing and just rock out.
38:20And I'm going to sing these lyrics dedicated to Dacia.
38:24You cannot break me, ma'am.
38:25Let's go, baby.
38:26Let's go, baby.
38:30And my mind, my spirit and my soul.
38:36And you cannot break me cause I'm too strong.
38:42Yeah, I'm too strong.
38:45Come on!
38:46Come on!
38:47Come on!
38:48Come on!
38:49Hold on.
38:55Don't let me go.
38:59That's what I'm talking about!
39:01I just had so many emotions going through my body.
39:06I had to just release that.
39:08How was it?
39:09It was cool.
39:10Let out some anger.
39:11I'm good now.
39:17Lying asses.
39:18The one thing I don't like is a liar.
39:20That's going to tip me over the edge.
39:22Especially, like, you don't have to lie.
39:25I'm not going to whoop you.
39:26I'm not your mama.
39:27I want camera.
39:30I'm going to give you camera.
39:31You can't break me, you lying whore.
39:34Um, Amber.
39:35Sorry.
39:36The girl is putting on.
39:38Girl, you look a mess.
39:39I'd rather sit there and look pretty
39:41and go do what I do best on stage.
39:43I paid her dust.
39:46Dust.
39:48Take a breath.
39:50Now the vibes is kind of, like, tense
39:53because in my head, like, the microphone
39:56lens is, like, a little dialed in a bit more.
40:00I want you to feel like you want to go home
40:03and all that.
40:04You hear?
40:05If you go home, you need to be getting sent home.
40:08Not quitting.
40:09You can do it.
40:11Don't feel like that.
40:14Oh, shit.
40:15Yeah.
40:18Shake it off.
40:19Shake it off.
40:20Mix!
40:23I'm going for a walk.
40:24Hi.
40:25Hi.
40:26Hi.
40:27My name is Daisha.
40:28I'm a singer, songwriter, R&B.
40:30I'm here to sing something for you guys
40:31that I actually just wrote.
40:34Don't do that bullying shit.
40:35That bitch been bullying me all fucking day.
40:37She always said if she ever got caught up with something,
40:39she was going to lie about it.
40:41Feels like I'm living in lies.
40:44I'm caught in a circle.
40:46And now it's haunting me.
40:52Are you coming for me because you don't like the beat or something?
40:55You coming for me because we got the same beat?
40:57Like, that shit is stupid.
40:59Said, oh, darling, you're calling me heartless.
41:02I was blind.
41:03I was blind to the lies they tried to tell on me.
41:08But now what I'm thinking about is how I got to go back to this motherfucking house
41:12and deal with a whole bunch of fake ass people.
41:14And I just want to fucking hide in the closet.
41:17I could puff my chest.
41:18I can hide my bruises.
41:20Nothing in this world could save me from the brick wall blue.
41:26I don't want to leave this shit.
41:27This is my fucking life.
41:29The fuck?
41:30I love music, but if my other motherfuckers want to start shit,
41:33they fucking hate me.
41:35They want to hate me.
41:36They want to fucking hate me.
41:38And I don't do nothing for me tonight.
41:40Why they fucking hate me?
41:42I want to go home.
41:44That was different.
41:45It was more blues because, you know, R&B is rhythm and blues.
41:49Yeah, yeah.
41:50Can I be honest?
41:51When I got the beat, I hated it.
41:54I'm glad I didn't, you know, change it or try to trade it.
41:57It's like I played the cards I was dealt.
42:00You gave me that beat.
42:01We're going to make it work.
42:02And that's the good thing about it.
42:04To see if you're capable of coming out of your comfort zone.
42:08And then she did good.
42:12Hey.
42:13What's up?
42:15Amber's having a meltdown.
42:18Oh, my God.
42:19Like, I just feel like people picking on her.
42:21And that's how I'm feeling.
42:22I'm sorry.
42:23And I'm going to see her and I'm not going to have people picking on her.
42:26It's just as simple as that.
42:27That's it.
42:28Action.
42:29Action.
42:30Ah!
42:31Ah!
42:32Ah!
42:33Ah!
42:34Ah!
42:35Ah!
42:36Ah!
