Louis Partridge takes on a buttoned-up role in the new Netflix drama ‘House of Guinness’ as he played an heir to the Guinness fortune. He explained from the red carpet how it’s a far cry from one of his break-out roles as Sid Vicious in the 2022 series ‘Pistol.’ Louis, joined at the London Premiere by his co-stars Anthony Boyle and James Norton, discusses his new found appreciation for Guinness and how it’s changed his pub-going experience.

Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, ‘House of Guinness’ explores an epic story inspired by one of Europe's most famous and enduring dynasties - the Guinness Family. It launches on Netflix on Thursday 25th September 2025. Report by Burtonj. Like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/itn and follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/itn

00:00He was throwing things away, he was snarling, and I didn't have it, I was really stressed out.
00:04You know, I may not be Irish, but I'm in a blooming show called House of Guinness.
00:10Yes, I play Edward Guinness, who's the youngest son of the Guinness family,
00:15and the brewery gets passed down to him and his brother to run.
00:18His brother doesn't want to run it, I really want to run it.
00:20I am obsessed with it, I live and breathe the brewery, and I want to be in the world,
00:24and I want to grow it, and I'm very ambitious, and I'm constantly pulled down to earth
00:28by my brother, who keeps messing things up, and I'm very frustrated at him the whole show.
00:33Can I just say, sir, you have range, because the last time I spoke to you was for Pistol,
00:37where you were Sid Vicious.
00:39To go from that to this is a very different tone, I guess, essentially, as well.
00:43How do you enter the world of being a Guinness Air?
00:47Wow, that's mad, that was a long, old time ago.
00:52Honestly, I think a costume has a lot to do with it.
00:55First of all, accent also plays into it, and when you're learning the accent,
00:59you learn a mouth posture, essentially, which plays into your physicality.
01:04Similarly, when I was playing Sid Vicious in Pistol, it's completely different.
01:08He was throwing things away, he was snarling, and that all feeds into, kind of,
01:11subconsciously, the way you stand and inhabit your body.
01:14Throw the clothes on there, and it really changes things.
01:16So I was wearing a stiff collar, I was wearing a suit a bit like this,
01:19and big coats and hats, and it was all proper, and you just had to stand up straight
01:22and be quite, yeah, just proper.
01:26So it does a lot of the work for you, is what I'm trying to say, the clothes.
01:29That was a masterclass in mouth acting that I just saw.
01:31Thank you very much for that education.
01:33Obviously, you said it's like calling it the mouth and the clothes to get into your character,
01:37but when you are working with an accent, do you have, like, a phrase to get you into it,
01:40or can you just kind of pick it up and go with it these days?
01:42Yeah, usually it is helpful to have a phrase.
01:44I don't think I had a phrase for this one.
01:46This accent, because the Sid Vicious accent, took me a long, old time.
01:51I really struggled with it, really, really.
01:53Up until the shooting, we were shooting, I didn't have it.
01:55I was really stressed out.
01:57This one was a smooth ride, and I loved it, and I didn't need to try too hard
02:02or spend too much time figuring it out, partly because I was surrounded by a lot of people
02:06who live and come from Dublin, so I think I had my ear in a bit more.
02:09Tell me about, like, your Guinness habits pre and post this project.
02:14Are you now a convert, or were you previously sold on already?
02:17I was a big Guinness fan before, but now I have a sense of pride when it comes to Guinness,
02:22which wasn't there, and I feel like I'm on the inside of the joke
02:25as someone who can say something about it, you know?
02:28I may not be Irish, but I'm in a blooming show called House of Guinness.
02:31And you go into pubs now and be like, oh, that's a good Guinness.
02:33That's a bad Guinness.
02:34Oh, yeah, all the time, and they were serving one here.
02:36It's not the best.
