Paul Hamilton's quick thoughts on the Sabres 4-0 win in their preseason opener.
Transcript
00:00Mr. Paul Hamilton joins us to chat about what he saw last night and what to look for tonight.
00:04Hey, Paul, good morning.
00:05Good morning. How are you?
00:06How'd you like preseason game number one from the Buffalo Sabres?
00:09Well, it was a slow start, but the last two periods they had like 31 shots on goal,
00:14pretty much dominated the play.
00:16Now, you have to remember, too, there was basically just two lines of Sabres there
00:20and two lines of what would be Amherst.
00:23Same with the D.
00:25But for one game, I think we saw exactly what Lindy Ruff is looking for.
00:31There was very little perimeter play.
00:33There were guys around the net all night, and that's why they scored goals.
00:37I mean, because there were guys around the net, guys winning battles along the wall,
00:42causing turnovers, and, you know, that's what he's talking about,
00:46being harder to play against.
00:48And, you know, we saw that.
00:50But, I mean, a guy like Josh Dunn, who was basically a piece that would come up
00:54in an emergency situation, I think I saw he had seven scoring chances.
01:00I mean, he was all over the ice and got in a fight and really, you know,
01:04was great on the forecheck and causing havoc.
01:07A guy, Tyson Kozak, who we saw last year, and I think we'll see some this year.
01:13Same thing, all around the net.
01:15Actually, I thought he tipped Byram's shot.
01:17It doesn't really matter, they got the goal, but he was in front of the net
01:21and taking the eyes away, and had gotten in on a good forecheck right before that.
01:26So, you know, Doan was another one, you know, around the net.
01:31And so, at least for these guys that we saw, message received.
01:38Now, we're probably going to see a whole different gang tonight.
01:41We'll see if they got the message.
