00:23I chose a really complicated design. We've got this
00:28Our designers will be under the watchful eye of the Marks and Spencer experts when it comes to looking for a lingerie designer to join our team
00:36I'm looking for someone who has great style really entrepreneurial innovative mindset
00:42And this week's guest expert Bozzie Huntington-Whitelake. I think it's incredibly playful and fun
00:50He's making it up as he goes along. I like it. This just looks awful
00:53Everything is literally perfect nine hopefuls remain all competing for the dream job
01:02To dress the nation
01:04Hiya
01:13Hey
01:14Hi, how are you guys?
01:15Welcome back
01:16Congratulations designers. I'm making it to meet two. How are you feeling?
01:20This week is all about one of Marks and Spencer's biggest sellers now don't panic
01:28We're not going to ask you to bake Colin the caterpillar or produce some Percy pigs. It's all about lingerie
01:35Ooh la la! So deciding who's undergarments are going to come out on top from M&S head of lingerie design Susie Jenkinson and of course marketing director of clothing Anna Braithwaite
01:52And completing this week's expert lineup a supermodel whose M&S lingerie collaboration is one of the longest standing on the British high street
02:05Please welcome Rosie Huntington-Whitelay
02:08Welcome Rosie
02:14Thank you. Thank you for having me. I'm very happy to be here
02:17All right, Rosie. Well, let's reveal this week's statement piece challenge
02:20Okay, so this week we would like you to design a luxury sleepwear piece reflecting your own personal style
02:27The sleeper has to be stylish, but comfort is number one at the top of our agenda
02:33It is so important that we keep pushing the boundaries pushing the style
02:37So we're so excited to see what you'll come up with in this challenge
02:40Designers, I've got to remind you that this is a job interview
02:44And if you fail to impress the experts in either challenge, they can send you home at any point
02:51You have four hours to complete your sleepwear and we're off for a nap, so ready, steady, go!
03:01With some pre-prepared design ideas the designers now have four hours to make sleepwear that's comfortable
03:07Stylish and made with luxurious fabrics before they'll be ranked by our experts from first to last
03:14I've never met sleepwear before so everything could go wrong
03:18You've got this
03:19All right, the fabric room is no open
03:23Fabric, fabric
03:28Oh, I don't know what I want
03:29Susie's sleepwear
03:30Is it a dressing gown? Is it pyjamas? Is it a nightie?
03:33All of those things and more
03:35Is that too sexy?
03:37No, I think that's going to look nice
03:38When it comes to sleepwear, fabric is absolutely crucial
03:41How that feels against the skin, how it's going to move with you throughout the night
03:45The other thing is how a fabric and a print looks on the shop floor
03:49Because that's what draws a customer immediately over to the design
03:52Oh, that is gorge
03:54She said fashion week wear
03:56I'm somebody that leans towards sort of softer feminine colours with our sleepwear range
04:01Oh, that's gorgeous
04:03Bold colours, it's a bit me
04:05Right, let's get cracking
04:09Do you reckon the green or the pattern?
04:14I think the green's stunning
04:15And look around the room, no-one else is doing green
04:17If you pull it off, it'll be sick
04:18Please
04:18For colour-loving designer Chris
04:22He's sticking with a bright colour palette
04:24Like he used for his summer dress last week
04:26But will bold colours work as well on luxury sleepwear as they do for summer dresses?
04:32I found the perfect colours
04:34Are you loving it?
04:35Like genuinely, it's making me happy
04:36Whether it'll make me happy at the end, ask me in a couple of hours
04:40I would describe my style as dramatic, bold, very bright
04:47Colours will bring out something in you emotively, your inner self
04:51I want to win this so badly
04:55That I can taste it
04:58Such an opportunity to change my life from office worker to designer
05:03And somewhere like Marks and Spencer's
05:06To be able to impact what people wear, how people feel
05:10To be given that opportunity is next level
05:12I love it
05:14I want it
05:15I need it
05:16Making it work
05:19Work
05:20Work
05:21Work
05:21Work
05:23Chris is making the bold decision to use canary yellow and bright pink for his boyfriend
05:28Style night shirt with contrasting pockets and a dramatic colour
05:32Where is the other pink going as well?
05:36Did you see?
05:37So it will be like yellow on top and then when you lift it up
05:39Do you think?
05:40I just love the colours
05:41So it matches like the pocket
05:42Yeah
05:43What do you think of Chris's boyfriendship?
05:46I think from a styling perspective for me, it's probably my least favourite colour combination
05:54It was meant to be the other way round
05:58Because I've done the pink on the outside and the yellow on the inside
06:02Like, imagine
06:06Yellow
06:10Pink under
06:11But actually
06:14Happy accident, people
06:17Would you wear something like that to sleep at?
06:21Not my style
06:22Also hoping to stamp his unique style on his sleepwear is former West End dancer, David
06:34They want something that's not the same as that they've got already
06:38So might as well add something that they haven't seen or on
06:40They might have seen it before but not in M&S
06:43Putting a hoodie on it and little pleats
06:45It's all comfort
06:46My inspiration was going into M&S and seeing how can I elevate it
06:50And make it more, I guess, cool, street-wise, you know
06:55David was commended by the experts for bringing his personal street style
07:00To his first ever women's wear design last week
07:04Your style is super cool
07:05Thank you very much
07:06Will he be able to use his streetwear style to create a sleep set that also feels luxurious?
07:13My design style is like streetwear slash tailoring
07:16For my dance career, everything has to be like loose and baggy
07:19And feel like you can be free as you're moving
07:21I feel like it could fit with M&S because they have good tailoring already
07:24But I want to, like, give them a bit more flavour, you know what I mean?
07:29I do think I can win this competition
07:30I feel like it'll be a sign from the universe to say, yes, you're doing the right thing
07:34David's adding some flavour to a traditional pyjama set
07:38By giving it a slouchy silhouette and adding features like pleated trousers and a hood
07:43Hello, David
07:44Hello, David, how are you?
07:46I'm good, thank you, how are you?
07:47I understand your background is menswear
07:49Yes, it is
07:50So how have you sort of taken your experience and applied that to a women's luxury sleepwear design?
07:56I saw my dad when I was younger wearing a two-piece pyjama set
07:59So I was like, I'm going to do a two-piece but do it my way for a woman
08:02I'm more relaxed
08:03I'm putting a hood on it so she can, like, you know, feel a bit cosy when she's at home
08:07How do you think the hood's going to work when you're in bed?
08:10Well, I've kind of thought about it being more of an autumn-winter sleepwear
08:13So, you know, it's a bit chilly still so you can throw it on and still carry on sleeping
08:17I really like the colours and the design, it's just really contemporary
08:20Yeah
08:21It just feels, like, really modern
08:22I'm loving it
08:23I am just putting a hood together
08:27I'm from the originally from Nigeria so we have warm blood
08:30So when it gets a bit cold, I do sometimes go to bed with a hoodie on
08:33What do you think of his design so far?
08:41For me, I'm a little bit concerned about the hood
08:44Yeah
08:44But it's definitely got a kind of street casual vibe to the design
08:48So I'm quite excited to see the final range
08:50It's his style that's come through again
08:52And that's what the challenge is
08:53Completely
08:54Oh, Katie
08:56No offence, but it looks like you're in your PJs
08:59I know what, I thought pyjama week, I'll come appropriately dressed
09:02Yeah
09:03What are you making?
09:04So, luxury, lovely pyjamas I would wear on a girl's trip with my friends
09:08When we're getting ready, drinking Prosecco, doing our make-up
09:11Oh, cute
09:12So there's going to be a little matching bag
09:14Oh, my gosh, yeah, like a little travel bag
09:17Yeah
09:17Driven by her success in week one, neuroscience graduate Katie is creating more items than any other designer
09:24She's making a scrunchie and a bag to go with her shorts and cami set
09:29What I'm quite excited to see with Katie is the accessories
09:33Because we know, you know, our customers love a little freebie as well
09:37Oh
09:38Nobody wants to see that
09:39Winner from week one's sermon challenge, Dalen, has had help from his sisters to design the ultimate shorts PJ set
09:49Which he hopes will guarantee a good night's sleep
09:52Now you look like you're really involved in some detail there
09:57What are you working on?
09:58I've been given some very real details about what women want for a pyjama
10:03My beautiful older sisters have some, like, prerequisites
10:05They love a camisole top
10:06Yeah
10:07But the problem is they lack support
10:08So inside there's going to be a 360 jersey support
10:11Our customers absolutely love our tops with secret support in them
10:15So that sounds like that's a great bonus for sleepwear
10:18I think he's really exciting
10:19Yeah
10:20This sounds like my perfect sleepwear, honestly
10:23Oh, the pressure
10:24Sounds like Dalen has his sisters to thank for hopefully getting him one step closer to his dream job
10:30Designers, you're halfway through
10:33Get it in, get it done, get it out
10:37So Rosie, what's going to catch your eye from our designers?
10:42When it comes to sleepwear, I think comfort is key
10:46Comfort, practicality, how something feels when you wear it
10:50And then after that, the styling comes into play
10:52This is no easy feat
10:54I'm definitely intrigued to see how the designers are going to execute today
10:58Yeah
10:58Lingerie expert Rosie knows exactly what she's looking for
11:04But will finance director Maria deliver?
11:08She's used to upcycling vintage creations
11:10That are typically more about glamour than comfort
11:13Hello, Maria
11:14Hi, Maria
11:15How are you feeling?
11:17A bit scared
11:18I've never done nightwear or lingerie before
11:20This design is all me
11:23I really love 1950s, very glamorous nightdresses
11:27Oh, amazing
11:28I work in finance four days a week
11:32And then one day a week
11:34I upcycle
11:35I literally can turn rubbish into high fashion
11:38I genuinely believe me and Marks and Spencers together
11:43We really can get people to look at sustainable fashion in a new light
11:48Maria's vintage-inspired nightdress has a full-length silhouette
11:52With lace and bow details
11:54She wants it to be worn both in the bedroom and out
11:57But is she prioritising style over comfort?
12:01It is going to have a zip in it
12:03Just because I want it to be versatile
12:05When you're up and you're kind of drinking your gin cocktail on your veranda
12:09Have you considered how comfortable zips are going to be to wear in bed?
12:13I'm all about fashion, not comfort
12:15Certainly our customers
12:19Number one point
12:22They always feed back to us on sleep
12:24Whereas it has to be comfortable
12:25So I think one, something to bear in mind
12:27I commit to something
12:31And then I see it through to the end
12:33I don't usually let other people's kind of opinions
12:36Or, you know, things influence me
12:39Because I just don't think it's authentic
12:40I reckon this is my go-home task
12:43Welcome back to Dress the Nation
12:53Where our nine amateur fashion designers
12:56Are creating statement sleep sets
12:58Don't freak out
13:02I'm about to put the elastic through and suck them off
13:05Designers!
13:06You've got one hour left
13:08Just shout that and let them know
13:10A little bit louder
13:13And while some of them are taking big risks with their designs
13:18It's stressing me out because I'm just not used to these materials
13:22It just doesn't feel like me
13:23But I need to go over it and just stitch it together
13:26And if it's rubbish, it's rubbish
13:27Others are playing it much surfer
13:29So I'm making a lingerie-inspired nightdress
13:33It's kind of like a slip
13:34The inspiration behind it was I was looking at kind of like the 80s and 90s
13:38Princess Diana, someone that's very elegant
13:40I hope they like my design
13:42I hope it's not too basic
13:44I love the colour of what Ryan has chosen for his material
13:48My concern is that he's maybe not pushing the boundaries enough
13:52Yeah, he might be playing it a little bit safe
13:53A little bit safe
13:54So my gran, she loved a cup of tea
14:00And I remember the china tea set so vividly
14:02So this fabric really, really represents that
14:05Paul is creating a short and shirt set
14:08Made in a fabric inspired by his grandma's tea set
14:11And he's adding frills to give it a feminine feel
14:14So what do you think of Paul's design?
14:17I love the inspiration
14:20But I am a little bit worried that it could look quite classic
14:23And we've seen it before
14:24The Stairman Piece Challenge is all about showing off the designer's personal style
14:32Something that fabric shop owner Sandeep failed to do in week one
14:36This week, she's determined to redeem herself to the experts
14:40Hi, Sandeep
14:42Hey
14:43How are you doing?
14:44Better than last time
14:45Yes, better than last week, so that's good
14:47Yes
14:47Is this something you'd usually wear to bed?
14:49Yes
14:50So I already have an M&S set in this colourway
14:53But I've added more me to it
14:55So bows, cute lengths
14:57While Sandeep is hoping to show off her elegant but cute style
15:01With her navy sleep set
15:02Tendai is showcasing her vibrant personal style
15:05With a bright orange wrapped pyjama set
15:07Inspired by her travels to Morocco
15:10This is something that
15:13If my friends say, let's meet up for a cocktail
15:16I'm wearing it
15:17Then I would wear it to bed
15:18I mean, if you can't wear it going for a cocktail
15:21What is the point?
15:25Tendai
15:25Very bright colour choices
15:27What do you think?
15:28Very, very bold colour choices
15:30You wouldn't necessarily see in a luxury piece of sleepwear
15:34Now I don't want to alarm you
15:36But you've got 15 minutes left
15:38Go, go, go, go, go
15:41If it's not on the mannequin
15:42It won't get judged
15:44Just put that pedal to the floor
15:47I'm too scared to put it on the mannequin
15:51To be honest
15:52Come on, you're finished
15:57There's no bells and whistles
15:59But I like it
16:01Three minutes left, everyone
16:05Three minutes
16:06Get it on a mannequin quick
16:07Get it on
16:08Look at this
16:08This is horrendous
16:09Dana, can you help me, please?
16:12I wanted to stitch some bows on
16:14But I'm just glad that there's a zip on there
16:16Get those buttons up
16:17Now you get those buttons on
16:19The bag, the scrunchie's done
16:21I just hope it's not too green
16:22Ah, here goes
16:24This just looks awful
16:26I chose a really complicated design
16:28Should have not been so naive
16:30Do you want to thread this back into the metal thing?
16:33Yeah
16:33She's looking gorgeous
16:34Well done
16:36Everything is literally perfect
16:38So I'm really, really happy
16:39Almost there
16:40She's almost ready
16:41She's got a pants on
16:42Quick, get that one
16:44Just leave it like that
16:46I reckon just leave it like that
16:48You've got five
16:49Four
16:51Three
16:52Two
16:54One
16:56Designers, your time is up
16:59A step away from your mannequin
17:02Mine was shocking
17:07Looking around everybody else's designs
17:12I was disappointed with mine
17:14I would just love to go ahead to the next challenge
17:18I would love to have another chance
17:20I put my garment on the mannequin
17:24I did feel it was giving a little bit clout
17:26I need to be honest
17:27I don't think I've done enough to be lead designer
17:29The next challenge
17:29But I think I've done enough to match the brief
17:33I'm glad that I've got a finished garment on the mannequin
17:37Just happy that it's over
17:39If I'm completely honest
17:41Nine statement sleep sets are ready for judging
17:49Now it's time for the experts to see who's delivered beautiful but comfortable designs
17:54That show off their personal style
17:56And whether they've all done enough to stay in the competition
18:01In terms of the silhouette and the proportions
18:05I think you've really hit the nail on the head
18:08Today you've really shown how resilient you are
18:11You've bounced back
18:12And it's really, really nice to see
18:14Because all of those qualities are what people need as a designer
18:17Thank you
18:18Did you enjoy it?
18:21When it ended I enjoyed it
18:22Yeah
18:23A little bit disappointed that the Zips seen it into the final garment
18:27I do love the slinky long silhouette
18:30But Zips and sleepwear is just a big, big no-no
18:33With Maria missing the mark by prioritising style over comfort
18:39The experts are clear about what they're looking for
18:42When it comes to luxury sleepwear
18:44It must be ambitious
18:46It's a really simple night dress
18:50Perhaps you could have pushed the boundaries a little bit further
18:53It must show off the designer's personal style
18:58I love the idea behind sort of taking quite a classic style
19:02And making it really frilly and quite feminine
19:04Whilst not being too out there
19:08I really like the little detail that you've put in the shoulder here
19:11The thing that lets it down would definitely be this orange
19:14It's very, very vibrant
19:15It's a little bit intense for me
19:17It has to be comfortable
19:20It was brilliant to hear that you got feedback from your sisters
19:24I love the inner support
19:26And actually I love the combination of innovation with modern simplicity
19:32But most importantly, the designs must be luxurious
19:36Well, I think this does reflect your personal style
19:45However, I'm not sure the colour combinations are quite working
19:49That's fair enough
19:50What lets us down is that it doesn't have any essence of luxury for me
19:54I am only getting kind of like Ronald vibes here
19:59Ronald McDonald?
20:01The shade of it all
20:02I think you've just got to be really careful
20:05Between your personal style being colour
20:07And actually what is practical and commercial
20:09For a broad audience to actually wear
20:12Two designers who seem to hit all these criteria
20:16Are Katie
20:17And David
20:18I'm really a big fan of this
20:21I think it's incredibly playful and fun
20:23And I could really, really see it as part of the rosy brand
20:26I love the very cute, slightly kitsch look
20:29I could see this in a luxury boutique in Tokyo, perhaps
20:33Get your passport
20:34I can completely see your personal style
20:42The pleating detail, I'm guessing, has come from how you move as a dancer
20:47And we move a lot in sleeping
20:49So that is genius
20:50I love the hood
20:52That's a very, very cool detail
20:54It's really hard to come up with something that is truly different
20:58But somehow you have come up with something that I've never seen before
21:02I would love to see something like this in M&S
21:05Thank you so much
21:06APPLAUSE
21:07The experts have now ranked the designers
21:12From whose sleepwear has impressed them the most to least
21:16So in last place
21:19I can reveal
21:21That it is
21:22Chris
21:24In eighth place
21:28Maria
21:29Ryan is seventh
21:33Tendai is sixth
21:34Fifth is Sandeep
21:36And in fourth place comes Paul
21:38Third place is
21:40Katie
21:41We love the really kind of quirky femininity
21:46And we love the accessories too
21:47Thank you
21:48In second place is
21:50Daylon
21:51We all loved your design
21:55It absolutely reflected your style and your personality
21:58I thought it was brilliant
21:59So well done
22:00Which means
22:01This week's winner of the Statement Peace Challenge is
22:05David
22:06APPLAUSE
22:07The design was so innovative and unique
22:14We were really impressed
22:15So well done
22:16Thank you so much
22:17Thank you
22:17I really appreciate that
22:18I'm buffed
22:24I don't know
22:24I don't know how that happened
22:25I don't know how that happened
22:26Honestly I had no idea
22:28But yeah I'm happy
22:29I'm really happy
22:29That I've come out on top there
22:31But for one designer
22:34The experts have a surprise decision
22:37Now as you know
22:40This is an interview process
22:41Longest and probably the most difficult of your life
22:47And the experts can send you home at any stage
22:51After this week's statement peace challenge
22:55After this week's statement peace challenge
22:55The experts have decided that
22:58Chris
23:06Chris
23:06You will not be going any further
23:09I thought so
23:12I'm sorry
23:16I'm sorry
23:16I have absolutely had the best time
23:20Meeting these guys has been next level
23:22And I know that each and one of them is going to blow you away
23:24Coming this far for me is an absolute win
23:33With the huge group of talented designers that we have
23:37You've got to pick someone
23:38Today is my turn
23:39I stuck with who I am
23:41And it was authentically me
23:42So you can't really do any better than that can you
23:44Coming up on Dress the Nation
23:47You're ready for your next challenge
23:49The collection
23:51There's tension in the lingerie challenge
23:53Have some conviction
23:54I'm scared that would get it wrong
23:55You're really making me panic
23:56I feel strongly about that
23:57We have to make a decision because time is ticking
23:59I see their reactions
24:02I don't think that's like a flattering shape
24:04It's not giving me sexy
24:09Welcome back to Dress the Nation
24:15Where eight hopeful designers are halfway through lingerie week
24:19And following a shock elimination
24:20It's down to the top four designers
24:23To pick their teams for the next challenge
24:25I'm going to pick Ryan
24:26My Zimbabwean partner in crime
24:31And I
24:31I'm going to go with Sandy
24:33And that means
24:36Paul and Maria
24:37Save the best and last
24:38Okay design teams
24:42That means you're ready for your next challenge
24:45Which is the collection
24:47So we want you to design a lingerie set
24:50That includes at least three items
24:53But remember this is about M&S
24:56What our customers would love
24:57So you keep style at the heart of it
24:59Remember our experts
25:01Aren't the only one critiquing your collection
25:04The customers will also be sharing their opinions
25:08And trust me
25:09They're not a shy bunch
25:10It's the best of luck
25:11Now then
25:12You've got five hours to complete your collection
25:16You're time stars
25:17Now
25:18Come on
25:18Hurry up
25:19Oh my god
25:23Well obviously bra
25:24Yes
25:25I do
25:25I do the how to do one
25:26Do I do you?
25:27Yes
25:27Oh do you?
25:28I've made a few bras
25:29Of course that's why I chose you
25:30Rosie you've got a long standing collection
25:34With Marks and Spencers
25:36What is the key to success?
25:37Whenever we start on a collection
25:39I have a sort of story in my head
25:41I think of a woman
25:42How she wants to feel
25:44And that lingerie should enhance her day
25:46Should enhance her feeling
25:48And so it's definitely important
25:50That storytelling should always empower our customer
25:52I think the theme should be like
25:55Cooking for your husband coming home
25:57So I'm going to make a bralette
26:01With like a really cute pant
26:03Like lacy
26:04Oh yeah I like that
26:05Team Paul are producing a kitchen romance collection
26:09That includes a cotton kimono made by Maria
26:12And a matching lacy knicker and bralette made by Paul
26:16But will the traditional concept be modern enough for Marks and Spencer?
26:22What are the pitfalls in this challenge?
26:24What could go wrong?
26:25Looking at all of the details across every piece
26:28Does it actually look seamless?
26:29So it's designed almost by one person
26:32So I think working together with all of that different design handwriting
26:35Is a possible pitfall
26:37Even though we're both guys
26:38You've men's wear
26:40I'm women's wear
26:41So I think we can bring in the femininity
26:43But with a masculine edge
26:44Which will make women look stronger
26:46Exactly
26:46And I think this day and age
26:48And fashion forward
26:49I think women want that
26:50Exactly
26:50Team David are creating a versatile collection
26:54Including David's own take on a kimono style robe
26:57With a matching pair of shorts
26:59But the most difficult item will be a bustier bra
27:03Which will be completed by Ryan
27:05Feel that?
27:07That would could look nice
27:08That would be nice in the short
27:09Do we want to go like bright and colour from summery
27:12Or do we want to go a little bit more sexy
27:13A little bit more night time vibe?
27:15I think as long as it all is really like matching
27:18But not like too much
27:19Say if there was a print on the fabric
27:21Yeah
27:21We can pick out elements of like some of that colour
27:25On like the straps or whatever
27:26But just not in a garish way
27:28Team Katie are creating a lingerie set
27:32That includes a technically challenging underwire bra
27:35Made by Sandeep
27:37A matching knickers, robe and eye mask
27:39All from Katie
27:41Part of being a designer
27:43Is being able to work with other people in your team
27:46Really good communication
27:48It's absolutely vital
27:50Can you pass me the print
27:52For the body
27:53For
27:54No we're doing it in plain
27:55The print is going to be
27:57The cuffs, the placket and the belt
27:59I was just worried that
28:00Is there not too much yellow
28:01I am just thinking about this
28:04I don't think we should be scared of this yellow
28:06No
28:07Okay
28:07Have some conviction
28:08Yeah
28:08But then I'm scared that I get it wrong
28:11Tendai
28:11You're really making me panic
28:12I think we should do the body in yellow
28:14And the trims in print
28:15I feel strongly about that
28:16Okay
28:16But we have to make a decision
28:17Because time is ticking
28:18Okay
28:18Team Dalen are struggling to agree on their designs
28:24With four items to make
28:25Comprising of a kimono
28:27A wrap skirt
28:28A bustier
28:28And a bonnet
28:29Now Tendai wants to use yellow sparingly on the cuffs
28:32While Dalen wants to go bold
28:34And use it as the main colour
28:36Tell me a little bit about the influence
28:40And how your personality is coming through
28:42So we are both born in Zimbabwe
28:44Yeah
28:44We definitely want it to feel exotic
28:47We are trying to find a balance between the print and the yellow
28:49Yeah
28:49Okay
28:49We don't want it all to be print because that's a bit aggressive
28:53But we also don't want it all to be plain
28:55Yeah
28:55Because I think that's a little bit too muted
28:57Just one piece of advice I would say
28:58Sometimes less is more
29:00Right
29:00Thank you so much for that
29:02Very grounding
29:03Good luck
29:04Thank you
29:04See you later
29:04Thanks
29:05Do you still think the yellow is the way to go?
29:12Yeah, because she was saying less is more
29:14Less is more
29:15Yeah
29:15I'm nervous about being in this competition
29:20We are talking of Max and Spencer
29:22Everybody knows it's the top of the top
29:25For me to have an opportunity like this is once in a lifetime
29:29If I don't get it, I don't know what I would do next
29:33So we've got Tendai and Daylin here
29:37Is this one on brand?
29:42Do you like it?
29:44For me, just a bit too much going on
29:46Yeah
29:46Yellow's a beautiful colour
29:47I'm not sure it works in this collection
29:49Yeah
29:49You've got this, Katie
29:54You're going to smash it
29:55Having nearly been sent home last week
29:59When her dress was completely at odds with the rest of her team
30:02For this collection challenge
30:04Sandeep is going all out to redeem herself
30:07As she's the only designer attempting a tricky underwired bra
30:11Hi, Katie
30:13Hi, Sandy
30:14How are you?
30:15Good, thank you
30:15So what's the concept behind the design?
30:18Our theme is all about
30:20You want to treat yourself
30:21Because you're going on a summer getaway with your partner
30:23Loving it
30:24What are you loving?
30:25I love bra making
30:26It's just so enjoyable
30:28So I'm going for an underwired bra
30:31Are you doing an underwired bra?
30:33Yes
30:33Good for you
30:34Wow
30:34Underwired bras are very challenging to construct
30:39It is all about the detail
30:40When you're making a bra
30:41Particularly an underwired bra
30:42So honestly, good luck
30:43Thank you
30:44Thank you so much
30:45Thanks
30:45Speaking to you
30:46Thank you
30:47I want to keep these and wear them
30:49Just because I'm so proud
30:50There we go
30:51It's a bit done
30:52Oh my god, that's so cute
30:53That is hot
30:54Sold
30:55Sold
30:55Sold for the lady in the floral draft
30:58I'm excited to see how Sandy executes an underwired bra
31:03Which is definitely a challenge in itself
31:06She had a really hard first week
31:08And the fact that she's turned around
31:10And she's come back
31:11This is really her moment, isn't it?
31:13Yes
31:16How cute is that?
31:18I love it
31:19I love it
31:19Oh, that looks amazing, Sandy
31:21I want to buy that
31:23M&S, please can you put it in your next collection
31:25So we can all have one
31:26Yeah
31:26After winning the statement piece challenge
31:29Face-time lingerie designer David
31:31Is maximising his chances of success
31:34By teaming up with experienced women's wear designer
31:37Ryan
31:37I'm literally going in blind
31:40Because I've never designed lingerie before in my life
31:42So I'm 100% trying to bounce off Ryan's expertise in women's wear design
31:48But after a disappointing result in the first challenge
31:51Pressure is getting to Ryan
31:53Dude, I'm not...
31:55What?
31:56I don't think I'm 100% on this bra
31:57Why?
31:58I just don't, like...
32:00I don't know
32:00I'm just not 100% like...
32:02It's going to fit
32:03The collection
32:03Seems like Ryan is having a little bit of crisis
32:07Yeah
32:08Of confidence
32:08I think given the fact that he has some lingerie experience
32:12I'm surprised that he's not further on
32:14I just really struggled today in, like, with handling things
32:17And yeah, it's just really got to me
32:18And I don't know why
32:19I don't want you to panic last minute, okay?
32:23I'm just going to try and keep you calm
32:24That's my thing
32:25Don't worry, man, don't worry
32:26I can see you shaking
32:27I don't know, I just want to let you down
32:28Welcome back to Dress the Nation
32:38Where Ryan is facing a crisis of confidence
32:41In the lingerie collection challenge
32:43So, right, are we going to get, um, late on it or not?
32:46Yeah
32:46You okay?
32:47Yeah
32:48What's wrong?
32:48I don't know
32:49It's just so fiddly
32:50Don't worry, don't worry
32:51Don't be upset with yourself
32:52I'm going to go and press it open
32:53So it's flat open
32:54I was born without my left hand
32:58People ask me a lot
33:00If my disability affects me as a designer
33:02Literally, like, how can you make clothes with one hand?
33:05And the simple answer is
33:06Same way you do with two
33:07I'll find a way around anything
33:09But I definitely struggle asking for help
33:11It is okay to ask for help
33:13Because I, I just never have
33:16Do you think they're working together as, like, a pair?
33:19Yeah
33:19I've got a sense that, um, there's a lot of support from David for Ryan
33:23Sorry
33:24I just want to let you down
33:25You're not going to let me down, man, don't worry
33:26I just want, I want to help you
33:28At least the public are judging
33:29So I hope someone will love the simplicity
33:31Oh, well, well, well, well
33:32Don't worry about the public
33:34Don't worry about anyone else
33:35Just worry about finishing this
33:36I want you to finish it
33:38That's all I want
33:39I just don't want people thinking that
33:41I can't do it
33:42When I know I can
33:44How are you getting on, Maria?
33:50Yeah, okay
33:51First time team leader Paul is paired with Maria
33:53Whose love of all things 1950s has inspired the theme behind their collection
33:58Hi Maria
34:00Hi Paul, hello
34:02What's the concept?
34:03Tell us about the concept
34:04There's a woman cooking for her husband coming home
34:06So she's in a kimono that's, that's a little bit of a cover-up
34:10But then when she reveals she's very ready
34:14Goodness me
34:16That's quite a concept
34:18Traditional concept
34:20Do you think this is a concept that we as M&S would want to be associated with?
34:28I mean, it does sound old-fashioned
34:30But in our busy lives, you know
34:32Sometimes it's nice to just surprise your partner with a meal that you've cooked
34:35And why not do it in an M&S three-piece?
34:38Sexy lingerie is super on trend
34:41I'm just not sure about the cooking in the kitchen concept
34:43Yeah
34:44Okay, thank you very much
34:45Thank you, good luck with the challenge
34:46Thank you
34:46Thanks
34:47Do you think we should reconsider our storyline?
34:56Yeah
34:57Maria and Paul, this is an interesting one, isn't it?
35:01I'm not sure I felt that it was the most modern concept
35:05However, when I actually look at the design
35:08I thought it had some real potential
35:10You've got one hour left
35:12Sixty minutes left
35:14Right, I need to get my skates on
35:17Needle down, foot up
35:19Press this
35:20And try and sew
35:22Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on
35:24There you go
35:25I feel like I might just walk out
35:28Bibby, no
35:29What's wrong?
35:30I just feel overwhelmed
35:32It's just
35:33One step at a time
35:34If you need to take five minutes to have a breather
35:36Have a breather
35:37Bibby, we're in this together, okay?
35:39Just
35:39Okay
35:41Yeah
35:41You've got this
35:42Now, let's get on the mannequin and see what it looks like
35:45Does that, like, sound like it's ripping?
35:48Don't force it, you don't want it to rip
35:50Don't freak out, it's fine
35:51Can we add a panel just here?
35:55There, I was thinking I'd smashed it
35:56Oh, wait, I've caught the back of the lace and the strap
36:00Can you unpick it?
36:01No, it's just going to rip that whole thing apart
36:04I think it looks almost intentional
36:06There's like an element here
36:08Oh, that looks good
36:09It is intentional
36:10Yes
36:11It's always intentional
36:12I'm so glad I have you
36:13I'm glad I've got you
36:15Designers, we want your collection on the mannequins in 15 minutes
36:22We're going to be to the wire, aren't we?
36:23Yeah
36:24My hands are trembling like a little mouse in the wind
36:28That goes this way
36:30Oh
36:31What?
36:32I've done it the wrong way, right?
36:33Oh, no, don't
36:34It's so slippery, it's falling down
36:36Get some double-sided tape or something
36:38How is this little top causing me so much trouble?
36:41Oh, stress
36:42Right, quick, we've got to dress it, quick, take it off, take it off, take it off, take it off, oh my god
36:46Okay, threads, let's go, threads, threads, grab your scissors, let's take off threads
36:53I'm so worried about letting you down
36:5530 seconds, designers
36:57Chop, chop
36:58Here we go, here we go
37:00Yay
37:04It's not perfect, but it's good enough
37:07Please
37:07Fabulous
37:08That is it, time's up
37:11Designers, that is the end of your collection challenge
37:15Please step away from your mannequins
37:17Thank you, honestly
37:19You're amazing
37:20I would have finished doing that
37:21You're amazing
37:22You're amazing
37:23Ah
37:24This was a harder challenge for me
37:26It's just a waiting game now
37:28Woo
37:29I don't know if I've done enough to stay in the competition
37:32I hope that the judges can see that I've grown from one challenge to the next
37:36You good?
37:37Yeah
37:38I feel like I've had you done more
37:40No, you haven't
37:41I find it really difficult
37:42Like, it was just the first time I've ever struggled
37:44I've learnt that sometimes it's the key to ask for help
37:47And going forward, I think that's what I need to work on
37:54Four lingerie collections designed for Marks and Spencer are complete
38:00It's now time to see what the experts think
38:03I really like the silhouette
38:07It's got David's style and handwriting all over it
38:12I feel really confident going into judging
38:15I just wanted to put, like, my style into the lingerie
38:18I'm really a big fan of this cocoon style wrap
38:23Yeah, I actually feel really inspired by the cut of this myself
38:27There's something quite cosy and relaxed about it
38:30Yes, yes
38:31For me, there's too many ingredients
38:34It's just a bit of a mess, unfortunately
38:38I'm feeling really confident
38:40I think women are looking for something that is a bit different
38:43I think we're really playing on that
38:45I think customers do want versatility
38:46They want bang for their buck
38:48The items just don't marry up
38:50And it's just very over top
38:52My parting words were sometimes less is more
38:58I love this colour
38:59This lace has some real stretch to it
39:02And looks very comfortable
39:03But there's no support here in the cups
39:07When we told Susie and Rosie about our theme
39:09I think they were unsure about it
39:11So hopefully seeing the final look
39:14Will give them an understanding of the look
39:16We were trying to achieve
39:17Which was really around sort of fun
39:18And spicing up your evening
39:20I think it feels quite commercial
39:22Very commercial
39:23Whether as a team
39:24They've pushed the boundaries enough
39:26Is a question for me
39:29Wow
39:30Sandeep and Katie
39:31Have actually been the only ones really
39:33To attempt a proper underwired bra
39:35That is so impressive
39:38I think it looks like a bra
39:39That actually would fit and support
39:42Which is absolutely amazing
39:43I just hope that Rosie likes it
39:46It would be the absolute world
39:48If she even gave it a tiny compliment
39:51It's fresh
39:52It's pretty
39:53It's playful
39:54I'm pretty blown away by this
39:58But it's not just about what the experts think
40:01As M&S customers have been invited
40:04To share their opinions too
40:06Uh oh
40:07Oh God
40:08Let's see their reactions
40:11She's touching already
40:12I love the kimono
40:13I love the shape of it
40:14Definitely hit on something with that shape
40:15Yeah
40:16I think the robe is beautiful
40:17And I think you could wear that
40:18Like even out
40:19I think it's really nice
40:20Ooh
40:21And I like the detailing on the bra
40:22Well I'm surprised
40:23I'm happy
40:24Yeah
40:25So yeah
40:26So chill chill
40:27Chill
40:28Yeah
40:29I love the material
40:30I love the pattern
40:31And I love the colours
40:32But I don't think I would really try it on
40:33I don't think that's like a flattering shape
40:34I think the robe by itself is really gorgeous
40:36But it doesn't give me lingerie
40:37It gives me more like chilling at home
40:38It's not giving me sexy
40:39Well it's not a sexy set
40:53It's just a luxury
40:58I think it's really modern
40:59This is really versatile
41:00You could wear this with jeans
41:01And I really appreciate the dimensions on the pant
41:03They're sexy, but they're really modern
41:05It's not sexy
41:06I think it's really modern
41:07I don't think it's modern
41:08sexy but they have some bum coverage I'd buy it yeah the colors are just so
41:20spring and fresh yeah and the knickers at the front are super plain but if you
41:27go around the back you see how sexy it is I also really like how they brought
41:37an additional piece in with the eye mask that's a really easy way to upsell to me
41:40that was the brief I could see that on my 21 year old daughter but then also being
41:46mid-50s that's really attractive yeah totally style is age yeah it really is
41:52isn't it having heard what the customers have to say the experts must now decide
41:57who's still in the running for the dream design job and who isn't M&S material so
42:04week to lingerie week how do you think the designers have done overall I think
42:09it's been a really challenging week actually there's probably been a couple
42:12of people that have been consistent I think we saw on the first challenge David
42:17just was stand out he's got a unique flair to his design and I really appreciated
42:22his pyjama set I thought that was just so cool so unique and Sandy today's
42:29challenge she just saw I love the journey that Sandeep's been on if you think God
42:34she's literally been on a roller coaster the amount of effort she put into her
42:38design today I thought she's done brilliant but actually the rest of them
42:42have been quite up and down who do you think is in danger and I think for me
42:47it's Tendai which is a shame really because she was one of the stars in week one but
42:54this week she lost her confidence and really in the final piece and there's just a
42:57lot going on sleep lingerie and beach all at once it just isn't what our
43:02customers would go for who else is in the dangers arm well it's got to be Ryan the
43:09first challenge I think we all felt that the nightwear piece was just a little bit
43:14too simple I think for me Maria we were quite concerned about the original concept
43:22however the actual design work we feel it's really super commercial in the first challenge
43:30the zip is a big problem for me because sips and sleepwear is just a big no-no she's got potential but
43:36she needs to start thinking about her narrative little more oh gosh it seems like you've got your
43:40work cut out for you there's a lot of people floating around in the danger zone so good
43:46luck with your decision glad it's not up to us Vernon no it's not well done teams you've
43:56always shown that you know your way around bra and knickers and the team with the must-have
44:02collection and safely through to next week is Katie's team this was such a standout piece for me I see it
44:21a set on the shop floor at Marks and Spencer and also a set that I would love to have personally so
44:27well done thank you I knew it would be a good week for me I just had to like really believe in myself
44:36they actually like what we created it's a huge achievement and yeah I couldn't ask for more
44:41now we'd love for the rest of you to stay but sadly we do have to say goodbye to one designer our
44:52experts thought that this person has real creative flow but this week they struggle to execute their
45:02vision and meet the brief the designer leaving the competition is and I it's all right I totally
45:23understand where the judges are coming from I struggled a lot on this challenge part of me is
45:30really disappointed because I would have wanted to go as far as I can but it was the best experience
45:36ever I'm really proud of myself next time on dress the nation this week you are going to be designing
45:45the kids go look how little the mannequin is it's gonna be cute Wow looks really gorgeous getting there
