00:23and fittingly he faced the very first ball for his country in their median official ODI.

00:36with three delightful boundaries against India in the third ODI at New Delhi on November 14, 1991.
00:42This knock stood as his career best in one day international. So sit back and enjoy his brief
00:48but elegant innings from Jimmy Cook, a player whose story reminds us of cricketing talent
00:53that bloomed brightest at home but was only fleetingly seen on the world stage.
00:59And this is the first over of the innings.
01:07And he's bowling to Cook.
01:14To find delivery right on the stump and there's not much that Cook can do with it,
01:18but it's not much better, except to defend.
01:26And off late, Cuttle Dave has sacrificed his speed for accuracy.
01:31He bowls over after over, keeps on pegging away on or around the off stump, compelling the bat's going to play at him all the time.
01:40And it's not a very good looking shot, or why?
01:52Ball kept trifle low.
01:55Gets a single there.
02:05A gentle push into the cover.
02:08A good looking shot.
02:17Fine shot back.
02:19The ball overpitched and Cook going into the drive and punching it past Orthodox mid-off for four.
02:28And the indications are that the South Africans mean business.
02:44Second over in progress and they are nine up on the board.
02:46Two extras and all the other seven runs have been scored by Jimmy Cook.
02:51He's got a single there and it's good running between the wickets.
03:02Fine running between the wickets.
03:04Cook, stab that ball on the on.
03:21Monochka Vata.
03:24Kuna again dalnay ke liye.
03:25Yeh unpa chaotu over hai.
03:30Again dalnay ke kuk kuk.
03:39Pen sartor.
03:51This ball is very nice.
03:58Not very encouraging bounce for three nights.
04:04He wants to cook.
04:06Mind you, that's also on a pitch on which the ball is not really coming on to the bat and the outfield is pretty lush.
04:13Rather slow. Now that's beautifully played.
04:16Beautiful shot.
04:18Should be able to stop it underneath.
04:22Yes, once again the Shrikant and Tendulkar combination does it for the second time.
04:29Now that's good fielding for you.
04:31That's a young Sachid.
04:33And a lovely arm he's got, Mr. Sindhya Adli.
04:36What a lovely sir.
04:38He's a complete triccater.
04:40Unfortunately the expectations from him are so high that
04:47that he's only become a part-time genius.
04:49He has a very sensible head on those shoulders.
04:51Yes, you're quite right.
04:55In 15 overs it's 64.
04:57Your team seems to be making a match of it.
04:59After it looked as if the Indians had run away with the match.
05:03Three nights to Cook.
05:04And that's played into the air and beautifully played.
05:06Picked the gap through.
05:07He would hit four runs.
05:08Cook proving his professionalism.
05:09He's one of the highest run getters in county cricket.
05:13Opening batsman for Somerset.
05:14Mr. Makadoush is originally a family originally many years ago from Calcutta.
05:30Not so?
05:31And it's especially thrilled him to visit the city of his ancestors.
05:36Lovely to have you with us.
05:38Now that's a very bad shot.
05:40I don't think Cook will be pleased with that.
05:42Lap in concentration.
05:44A swing for us.
05:46The type of reception we have had.
05:49And the tremendous warmth of the people here.
05:53I didn't expect any more than that.
05:55But I expected the warmth.
05:57It's enough to Cook.
05:59Now that's played well.
06:01Typical one day shot which might get in four runs.
06:03It beats the fielder.
06:07Acquired.
06:08Eight wickets in hand.
06:09And suddenly the entire complexion of the game has changed.
06:14Thanks to Kabul Russell and Peter Kirsten.
06:18And now Adrian Khaipa.
06:20They have shown the limitations of Indian bowling.
06:24Just as Indian batsmen showed the limitations of the South African bowling.
06:30These are the two dismissals.
06:32On the domestic circuit, Jimmy Cook was nothing short of a giant.
06:51A prolific opening best man.
06:53He amassed over 21,000 first class runs.
06:56Dominating South African pitches with his consistency and class.
07:00His story is one of resilience and love for the game.
07:03Long before his international debut, he was already a respected figure in South Africa cricket.
07:09Admired for his discipline, calm temperament, and ability to anchor an innings.
07:14Beyond his batting numbers, he left a lasting impression as a mentor and coach.
07:19Guiding future generations of cricketers with the same dedication he once showcased at the crease.
07:25His journey stands as a reminder that even if international success is brief, a player's influence on the game can echo for decades.
07:34Through the players they inspire and the legacy they have left behind.
