00:00Welcome back. The Commissioner of Police condemned the leak of a confidential TTPs document last week.
00:10He said the disclosure was malicious, misleading and designed to damage public trust.
00:18The Commissioner of Police Alistair Guevara has strongly criticized the recent leak of an internal document
00:24showing vacation leave balances of senior TTPs officers.
00:27He says the information was deliberately handed to a social media blogger by what he called a
00:33quote-not-so-anonymous end-quote source with the intention of sowing discord.
00:39The Commissioner stressed that the officer's leave was approved in line with lawful entitlements
00:43and strategic planning, dismissing claims of personal targeting as false and misleading.
00:50He warned that the real danger lies in the breach of confidentiality,
00:53which disrupted deployment strategies and exposed sensitive information that should have never been weaponized.
01:01He described the act not as whistleblowing, but outright sabotage.
01:05The Tupcup also rebuked the blogger who published the leak, saying it was not journalism but quote,
01:11digital gossip, end quote, noting that recognized media houses had refused to give attention to what he called reckless speculation.
01:19He reminded both officers and the public that the duty of the TTPs is to protect and serve,
01:26not to indulge in theatrics or sensationalism.
01:29Commentary without facts, he says, only weakens institutions and erodes public confidence.
01:36Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and fairness,
01:39the Commissioner says he will not allow attempts to destabilize the police service
01:43through cowardly leaks and distorted narratives.

01:50And Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander received a pre-action protocol letter containing some startling claims.
01:58With the hearing by the Review Tribunal pushed back to next Monday,
02:02Acting Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Garth Gorda, has written Vaya's attorneys to Minister of Homeland Security,
02:08Roger Alexander, asking him to immediately revocate the detention orders against him or face legal action.
02:15The letter was sent today to Minister Alexander Vaya's office, and in it, Vaya's attorneys,
02:20Gorda said the decision to detain him was unlawful, unreasonable,
02:24and constituted a breach of the principles of justice for the following reasons.
02:28Firstly, that Alexander, in his, open quote, personal capacity, visited the maximum security prison whilst he was on vacation leave,
02:36and prior to being appointed a minister, where he requested unsupervised visits,
02:40which were denied by Gorda, as it was his duty to do so.
02:44Close quote.
02:44Secondly, open quote, Alexander requested and received visits with a member of the radical Islamic OCG.
02:50This meeting was supervised by Gorda, in his, then, capacity as prison supervisor,
02:55as he was instructed by the prison executive to do so.
02:59Close quote.
02:59Thirdly, after being appointed a minister, Alexander again visited the maximum security prison,
03:04and requested similar meetings.
03:06The letter continued, open quote,
03:08On each occasion, communication was sent by my client to the executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service
03:14and the DCP intelligence of the TTPS, Suzette Martin, as it was Gorda's responsibility to do so.
03:19Close quote.
03:20The attorney further stated that, quote,
03:22As a result of Gorda's high-risk job, he has been a target over the years and very recently.
03:27Over the past couple of months, there were threats to my client's safety,
03:31which were communicated to him by DCP's Suzette Martin.
03:33A report on Gorda was communicated to the former Commissioner of Prisons, Carlos Carraspe,
03:38who found it without merit.
03:40Mr. Carraspe was then sent on leave.
03:43To date, you have signed two preventative detention orders in respect of Mr. Gorda,
03:47accusing him of associations with gangs, allegations he knew to be untrue.
03:51Close quote.
03:52The pre-action protocol letter made strong allegations about Alexander, stating, open quote,
03:56Your decision was influenced by an improper motive and a clear conflict of interest
04:01due to a pre-existing relationship and a personal animosity between you and Mr. Gorda,
04:07stemming from visits to the MSP and information that was communicated to the TTPS Intelligence Unit
04:13about your affairs.
04:14Close quote.
04:15The letter further added that the decision to detain Gorda in light of this conflict of interest
04:20is an egregious breach of this fundamental principle and goes directly to the root of malicious prosecution.
04:26Close quote.
04:26The pre-action protocol letter ended indicating that Gorda, through his attorneys,
04:30would be commencing legal proceedings against Alexander via a judicial review.
04:35Mark Nassant, TV6 News.

04:48Welcome back.
04:50Fresh warnings were issued from Venezuela's government to TNT
04:53over this country's support for the deployment of U.S. assets in the region.
04:59Venezuela's president, Nicolas Maduro, held a media conference on Monday
05:03and, in Spanish, made a direct reference to Trinidad and Tobago.
05:08In an English translation, as reported by the Trinidad Express newspaper,
05:12President Maduro claimed Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Basasa, quote,
05:16was threatening that she was going to authorize attacks from Trinidad and Tobago against Venezuela.
05:22That is like declaring war against Venezuela, end quote.
05:26That was President Maduro's apparent response to the government of Trinidad and Tobago's support
05:30for the deployment of U.S. Navy and other military elements in the region
05:35as part of what the U.S. says is its war on drug cartels.
05:39Prime Minister Passat-Basasa had this to say on the matter last month.
05:43I'm very clear we have had no agreement for any military attack.
05:48If there are any such plans, we are not part of any of those discussions.
05:52And what you ask me again, if we'll be using any of our pieces.
05:55Not to my knowledge and not the minister's knowledge.
05:58There is no such agreement.
06:00What I had said, I maintain it.
06:02Should Venezuela move against Guyana, it is then that we will offer any space here
06:08to protect our Caricum neighbor, brother, and sister.
06:12The Express was reporting that on Monday, President Maduro asked who is behind this
06:17before making reference to the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
06:21The Express is further reporting that President Maduro further said,
06:25So, Trinidad and Tobago, they must impose once more relations of respect, simply as that.
06:31They must impose relations of respect.
06:33We have defense plans and the armed forces have announced a part of that.
06:38We have defense plans that escalate on different lines.
06:41And Venezuela can be certain that we will guarantee our sovereignty and preserve peace in our country.
06:47Last month, Prime Minister Prasad besessed a sort to dispel any concerns about Trinidad and Tobago's relationship with Venezuela.
06:57We will continue relationships with all our neighbors.
07:00And I welcome again the fight against drug trafficking, human trafficking, violence, crime.
07:08So we welcome them.
07:09I am not in aggression against Venezuela.
07:11On Sunday, Venezuela's Defense Minister, Vladimir Padrino Lopez, posted on Facebook and Instagram
07:18a video excerpt of a speech he delivered on Sunday with an apparent warning to Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana
07:23and a caption that said in English,
07:25It is necessary to note that if an aggression against Venezuela arises from those territories,
07:32we will respond in a proportionate manner in legitimate defense of our sovereignty.
07:37They know well our unbreakable commitment to the defense of international law, human rights, self-determination of peoples and national independence.
07:48Make no mistake, end quote.
07:51Jewel Brown, TV6 News.
07:54While a few days later, the U.S. took out another Venezuelan vessel, killing three people.
08:00U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed a third lethal strike on Friday,
08:04which he says killed three male narco-terrorists, quote,
08:08en route to poison Americans.
08:11Venezuela's Ministry of Defense has labeled the continued actions an undeclared act of war.
08:18It is an undeclared war, and you see how people, whether or not they are drug traffickers,
08:37have been executed without right to defense.
08:40With so much technology and power, he was unable to intercept a vessel in the Caribbean Sea.
08:53To date, 17 people have now been killed in the strikes.
08:58On Friday, Venezuela's Attorney General called on the United Nations to launch a probe.
09:04This comes just days after Venezuela staged three days of military exercises,
09:10showcasing its Russian fighter jets.
09:12What is appropriate at this time, given the military threats from the United States
09:20against Venezuela, the Caribbean, and Latin America?
09:24It is necessary to raise the operational aspects of our armed forces, military and police,
09:30strengthen them to confront the threat, wherever it comes, whenever it comes.
09:38Venezuela says it stands ready to defend its territory.
09:42The government has not given consent to any armed group to be in the country.
09:56That is a violation of our sovereignty.
09:59That is why it is state policy at the highest level to reject, expel, or neutralize if necessary
10:05any armed group operating in Venezuelan territory.
10:12That is why it is a violation of any armed forces which operate in the Venezuelan territory.
10:19Sport is next. Keep it here.
10:21In sport, Keishon Walcott took gold in the Mange D'Avalon at the World Championships
10:3313 years after his unforgettable Olympic win
10:37He will be the first to throw, I think, in round five
10:41And Walcott will round off this fourth round
10:46Great throw in that second round
10:53The wind is picking up in the stadium
10:55Let's see if the Trinidad team and Tobago can harness that
10:59Wow
11:03He's putting together a lovely sequence here
11:06He's never won the World Title and he's let out a big role there
11:10His teammate Jareem Richards will be going in the men's 400 final later on this evening
11:18It could be a big night for the Trinidadians
11:20And that's the first 88-meter throw of the competition
11:25He's beginning to assert his dominance here
11:28On a title he's never got close to winning in the past
11:33Fantastic for the Trinidadian
11:35And there's a nice high-five from Jakub Vadlec
11:38Who bowed out at the third round
11:40Meantime, Jareem Richards sprinted away with Silva
11:44In the men's 400-meter final
11:46And the men are off to a huge cheer
11:53Cheer, rather, in this stadium
11:56And we can see that Zakiti Nene
12:00And Dori
12:02Have hit the front quite early in this event
12:05They go around that
12:08200 meters
12:10Just about 21 seconds done
12:12Kabinat Shippey is at the front
12:14But look at Nene
12:14Moving up front
12:16Jamaica's
12:19MacDonald
12:20Is there
12:21But who's hit the front already
12:23It's Busan Kabinat Shippey
12:25He's at the front
12:27What time are we going to see
12:30How close is he to this
12:3243.54 seconds
12:36Members of the government extended congratulations to the medal winners
12:40I just want to take a moment of this
12:43The time of this Honourable House
12:45To register and record
12:47The victory of Kishan Holcott
12:49And the great prize he has brought to Trinidad and Kubebo
12:53This is not the first time
12:55That he has made us proud
12:57This is the second time
12:59And I'm sure the authors will join us
13:00In congratulating Kishan
13:02For bringing back pride to Trinidad and Bebo
13:05By his victory
13:06So I thank you for that
13:07And of course Jireem as well
13:09We are so proud of that young man
13:11For his victory
13:12Gaining silver
13:14Recently in Japan
13:16So can we thank him as well
13:18For the pride

14:13Seven days on 6
14:14I am Renessa Cutting
14:16Here's what made the news this past week
14:18Chief Justice Ivarachi announced plans to retire
14:22Venezuela issued TNT another warning
14:26And Team TNT took gold and silver
14:29In the events at the World Championships
14:31As per usual, if it was happening
14:34It was on 6
14:35Let's get right into it
14:37TNT will have a new Chief Justice sometime during the new law term
14:42Chief Justice Ivarachi made the surprise announcement last week
14:46Chief Justice is what I do
14:49It's not who I am
14:51And over the past two years
14:53As I have approached the age of 65
14:55I have seen my life journey
14:58With greater clarity
15:00And perspective
15:01Chief Justice Ivarachi
15:03Speaking during the ceremonial opening
15:06Of the 2025-2026 law term
15:08As he said
15:09The office of the head of the judiciary
15:11Of Trinidad and Tobago
15:13Is a sacred baton held in trust
15:15For one's successor
15:17And the nation
15:18I have decided to retire
15:21Not resign
15:23Retire
15:23At the time of my own choosing
15:26And not to wait until I reach the age of 70
15:29There will always be unfinished business
15:32No matter when I leave
15:33But I have decided to retire during this term
15:36So this will be my last speech
15:39I have chosen to make this announcement now
15:42Because I must be responsible in managing transition
15:46Especially after such a lengthy period in office
15:50Where the only leader most people in the judiciary knows me
15:53A further announcement will be made
15:55Closer to the time of my departure
15:57Chief Justice Ivarachi spoke during a law term opening ceremony
16:01That did not include the traditional church service
16:04And procession of judges
16:05Magistrates and attorneys
16:07To the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain
16:09Mr. Archie recalled that when he was sworn in
16:13As Trinidad and Tobago's youngest Chief Justice in 2008
16:17He had envisaged retiring at 65
16:21In 2020
16:22The retirement age for judges was increased
16:25From 65 to 70
16:27During the former PNM administration
16:29That same year in 2020
16:32The High Court dismissed a claim for judicial review
16:35By the Law Association against the then Prime Minister
16:38Dr. Keith Rowley's decision
16:40Not to invoke Section 137 impeachment proceedings
16:44Against Chief Justice Archie
16:47On Tuesday
16:48The Chief Justice thanked his fellow judges
16:51The staff at the judiciary
16:52And his supporters
16:54Most importantly
16:56I would like to thank my wife and son
16:58For their unwavering love and support
17:01The families of public figures
17:05Suffer much more than we do
17:07They suffer in silence
17:09For choices that we make
17:10They give up the time and the attention
17:13That they are due
17:13And absorb the collateral damage
17:15From the slings and arrows
17:17That are aimed at us
17:18This can be a cruel society
17:21And I have no idea
17:22How I would have managed without them
17:25As Chief Justice
17:26Mr. Archie serves as President
17:28Of the Court of Appeal
17:30Of Trinidad and Tobago
17:31And Chairman of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission
17:34At the right time
17:35Her Excellency will choose a successor
17:38Whoever that may be
17:40I am confident
17:42That the judiciary will be in good hands
17:44Because there is more than a critical mass of people
17:47Who understand
17:48And are committed to our vision and mission
17:51And who share the ability
17:53And the commitment
17:54Necessary to execute
17:56The next Chief Justice
17:58Will have my full support
18:00But no unsolicited advice
18:02Section 102 of the Constitution
18:05States that the Chief Justice
18:07Shall be appointed by the President
18:09After consultation with the Prime Minister
18:11And the Leader of the Opposition
18:13The Chief Justice will retire on a new salary
18:16Which went up from $55,477 per month
18:21To $60,919 per month
18:24Effective April 1st, 2023
18:27As part of salary increases
18:29For several top office holders
18:31In the Salary Review Commission's
18:34120th report
18:35Which was approved
18:36By the former PNM administration
18:38Before the 2025 general election
18:41The Express newspaper is reporting
18:43That the Assembly of Southern Lawyers
18:45Emphasized the importance
18:47Of transparent and smooth management
18:50Of the upcoming transition
18:51To the appointment
18:53Of a new Chief Justice
18:54At some point
18:55During the new law term
18:57Jewel Brown
18:59TV6 News
19:00With the President
19:02Now holding the power
19:03To choose his successor
19:04All eyes are watching
19:06To see who will rise
19:07To become the next guardian
19:09Of the Constitution
19:10Chief Justice
19:13Chief Justice Ivor Archie
19:14Has announced his retirement
19:16Five years before reaching
19:18The legal threshold of 70
19:20This early departure
19:21Triggers a significant
19:23Constitutional process
19:25Where the President
19:26Has the sole discretion
19:27In determining
19:28Who will be the country's
19:30Ninth post-independence
19:32Chief Justice
19:32The highest judicial officer
19:34Of the land
19:35And what exactly
19:37Will Her Excellency
19:38Be looking for
19:39When she makes that pick
19:40We put the question
19:41To one senior counsel
19:43Chief Justice
19:44Who has the necessary
19:46Merit
19:47Ability
19:48And integrity
19:49Chief Justice
19:51Who will say
19:51Country first
19:52And political legions
19:54Or race
19:55Class
19:55And creed
19:56Would not get
19:58Into the way
19:59Chief Justice
20:00Who will devote
20:01Time and energy
20:03In rendering
20:04Justice for all
20:06According to the Constitution
20:08The President
20:08Is required to consult
20:10With both the Prime Minister
20:11And the leader
20:13Of the opposition
20:13But how much influence
20:15You may ask
20:16Do they really have?
20:18Traditionally
20:19The President
20:21Don't take on
20:22What they're saying
20:25There's only one President
20:27That took on
20:27What they were saying
20:28That is President
20:30Roberson
20:31When they were
20:32Thinking about
20:34Who to put
20:34As a Chief Justice
20:35And he put
20:36Justice Sharma
20:37So the President
20:39Has a
20:40Heavy burden
20:42That
20:43That President
20:43Must not think
20:44About what political
20:46Party she come from
20:47What race she belong to
20:49Who she married
20:50What school she go to
20:51What religion she belong to
20:52She had to select
20:54A Chief Justice
20:55That is good for the country
20:56Though there is
20:57Precedent
20:58For appointing
20:59Chief Justices
21:00From outside
21:00The judiciary
21:01Such as Hugh Wooding
21:03And Michael DeLabistede
21:04Three sitting
21:05Justices of appeal
21:07Are currently seen
21:08As strong contenders
21:10Justice Mark Mohammed
21:11Is first in line
21:12Second one is
21:13Jeffrey Henderson
21:15And the third one
21:17Is Justice Buru Singh
21:18Both Mohammed
21:19And Henderson
21:20Previously served
21:21As directors
21:22Of public prosecutions
21:23Henderson also served
21:25At the International
21:26Criminal Court
21:27At the Hague
21:27While Buru Singh
21:28Has been
21:29A long time
21:30Law lecturer
21:31Despite being
21:32A senior legal figure
21:34Himself
21:34Israel Khan
21:35Senior counsel
21:36Dismisses speculation
21:37That he
21:39Might be considered
21:40Someone like myself
21:41If I have passed
21:43The age
21:43To be appointed
21:44Chief Justice
21:45And I do not
21:46Have the necessary
21:48Qualities
21:48In order to
21:49Manage judges
21:50I will make
21:51A bad judge
21:52Much more
21:53Chief Justice
21:54I cannot suffer
21:55Full easily
21:56There are people
21:56Making submissions
21:57Which are not
21:59Not really
22:00Good submissions
22:02And they must
22:03Listen and then
22:03Give judgment
22:04I do not have
22:05The temperament
22:06To be a judge
22:07Seventeen years
22:08Have passed
22:09Since Trinidad
22:10And Tobago
22:11Last faced
22:12Such a moment
22:13With that in mind
22:14Khan offers his
22:15Advice to the
22:16President
22:16In selecting
22:18Its next
22:18Judicial leader
22:20Let a conscious
22:21Guider
22:21Be objective
22:22And dispassionate
22:23Not to think about
22:24Race
22:24Not to think about
22:25Class
22:25Not to think about
22:26Greed
22:26Or political
22:27Religions
22:27And select
22:28The best person
22:29Appointed in
22:312008
22:32At just
22:3347 years old
22:34Ivor Archie
22:35Remains the
22:36Youngest
22:37And longest
22:38Serving Chief
22:39Justice
22:39In the nation's
22:40History
22:40But Israel
22:41Khan
22:42Who has long
22:42Called for his
22:43Removal
22:44Remains critical
22:45He had a
22:46Personal
22:46Relation
22:47With Prime
22:48Minister
22:48Raleigh
22:49And there's
22:50No way
22:50Prime Minister
22:51Can not
22:51Push that
22:52Be
22:52Cesar
