00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:307 games and loads of goals on tonight's Match of the Day, including at the Merseyside Derby.
00:00:56And I'm joined in the studio by a red and a blue. Welcome to Wayne Rooney and to Danny Murphy.
00:01:02So Liverpool came into the Derby top of the Premier League with four wins from four.
00:01:07Everton's David Moyes has never won at Anfield. Steve Wilson watched this one.
00:01:14It's one of the great occasions of any season and you can probably count the dull ones on the fingers of one hand.
00:01:22Standby for Liverpool against Everton. Football at its most febrile.
00:01:28Oneslop makes four changes to the XI which started against Atletico on Wednesday.
00:01:33Werds and Isak are both on the bench. Robertson and Frimpong also drop out.
00:01:37In come Kerkes, Bradley, McAllister and Eketike.
00:01:41Everton have made their best start to a season for four years.
00:01:44David Moyes making one change to the side which threw with Villa.
00:01:48Vitaly Michalenko is fit again and replaces Tim Erich Boonham.
00:01:52Allowing James Garner back into his preferred midfield role.
00:02:01Eight played. The vast majority of it has seen Liverpool with the ball at their feet.
00:02:05But Pickford with nothing to do as yet.
00:02:07Gakpo tried to riddle between Nidrissa Garnaghe and O'Brien and couldn't quite do it.
00:02:15Inyman N'Jai.
00:02:18That's nice.
00:02:20Good foot in by Gakpo, won it cleanly.
00:02:27He's back on his feet, the Everton man.
00:02:29Ryan Gravander.
00:02:30Salah, beautifully done, and Gravander back!
00:02:42Oh, it's a lovely goal.
00:02:48The Liverpool have danced and probed in front of Everton for ten minutes.
00:02:53And then they strike, and how they strike.
00:02:56Well, Everton may argue that that was a foul from which Liverpool's move unfolded.
00:03:09But Gravenberg here not picked up, and brilliantly found by Salah.
00:03:13And the finish is exceptional.
00:03:16Liverpool lead.
00:03:17And Everton have not come from behind to win in this stadium since 1923.
00:03:30Here's Salah.
00:03:32Good hit!
00:03:34Just too high.
00:03:35Ekutike wanted a pass, actually.
00:03:37But Mohamed Salah having already provided an assist in this game was looking for a goal.
00:03:42And you've seen him put them away many a time from that kind of position.
00:03:4920 minutes played, and the Jota song rings out around Anfield.
00:03:54His last goal for Liverpool was the goal which won this fixture last season.
00:04:03Garner nicely done, Grealish.
00:04:07Beto in the middle.
00:04:09Dewsbury Hall here for Everton.
00:04:10It wasn't far away.
00:04:14Nicely worked down that left-hand side.
00:04:17Good football and encouragement for Everton.
00:04:23It's probably the early start, but for Merseyside Derby, Anfield is very quiet.
00:04:33McAllister.
00:04:34Oh, lovely ball.
00:04:35Ekutike!
00:04:362-0 Liverpool.
00:04:41Well, they've produced two moments of real quality in this game, and they've both resulted in goals.
00:04:49takes a foul and takes Liverpool into a two-goal lead.
00:04:58Great ball.
00:04:59And tucked away in a very composed fashion by Ekutike.
00:05:08And Liverpool have a two-goal cushion.
00:05:09Players of both sides wearing black armbands today in memory of two former Liverpool players.
00:05:15Here's Joey Jones, twice a European champion with the club, and former striker Bobby Graham, who both passed away recently.
00:05:27Error by Alisson.
00:05:28He's in Man and Jai.
00:05:29He's in Man and Jai.
00:05:30He's in Man and Jai.
00:05:32He's in Man and Jai.
00:05:32And Beto!
00:05:33He's in Man and Jai.
00:05:34Very difficult to get that on target from there.
00:05:38Well, Alisson's error.
00:05:44Look how difficult that is for Beto, slightly behind in hip height, very difficult indeed.
00:05:49He's in Man and Jai.
00:05:50Just one minute.
00:05:51Vitaly Mikolenko finds Jack Grealish.
00:05:55That's a lovely ball into Dewsbury Hall.
00:05:57Beto is in the middle, he's pulled it back to Idrissa Garnaguet, and Alisson saves.
00:06:01Wasn't a good connection on the end of it by Idrissa Garnaguet.
00:06:05And he didn't really trouble Alisson as much as he should have done.
00:06:11Since the second goal, Liverpool have been low-key and Everton have been the more dangerous side.
00:06:19Now there's a break on.
00:06:22Cody Gatto should get there ahead of Keane.
00:06:24There are five forward here, Keane with the half block, but Gatto will have another go.
00:06:29And he's picked out Salah beautifully.
00:06:31Salah, comfortable save.
00:06:35Well, a really good Liverpool counter-attack that didn't quite pay the dividends it promised.
00:06:41It's a great touch from Mohamed Salah, but not much power on the shot.
00:06:49Bradley.
00:06:53Deflecting off Idrissa Garnaguet to the path of James Garner.
00:07:01Here's Grealish.
00:07:02That's a good ball by Grealish and Jai, and Idrissa Garnaguet has scored for Everton.
00:07:14It's a really good goal.
00:07:16And it's changed the whole complexion at Anfield.
00:07:21And you'd have to say Everton deserve it.
00:07:27Really intelligent by Illyman and Jai to touch it back into the path of Idrissa Garnaguet.
00:07:34It's Liverpool two, Everton one.
00:07:42Canate's header.
00:07:44Dewsbury Hall first onto it.
00:07:46Illyman and Jai here.
00:07:47Lovely feet.
00:07:48He's found Grealish.
00:07:50Plenty forward here for Everton.
00:07:52Grealish's little cross.
00:07:53Idrissa Garnaguet.
00:07:55And Alisson under pressure.
00:07:57Play on, says Darren England.
00:07:59Does he?
00:08:00No, he has given the break in.
00:08:02Well, that is a warning for Liverpool.
00:08:04Should be a warning for Liverpool.
00:08:09Awkwardness for Alisson.
00:08:11The Everton substitute the judge to have jumped into the Liverpool keeper,
00:08:15which seems fair enough on the replay.
00:08:21Liverpool with Soboslay and now Salah.
00:08:24And it's four against Everton's five.
00:08:26Salah finds Florian Wirtz, who steps inside,
00:08:29and Tarkovsky covering brilliantly for Everton.
00:08:34And Liverpool have a corner.
00:08:35They might have had a third here, but for Tarkovsky.
00:08:38That's a really good defending.
00:08:41Soboslay's corner.
00:08:43Konate's header, and it hit Grealish.
00:08:46Shouts of handball from those behind the goal.
00:08:51It's a good header by Konate, and that is clearly the ribs of Grealish.
00:08:57Dewsbury Hall.
00:08:59Challenged by Jones.
00:09:00Good challenge by Idrissa Garnaguet in return.
00:09:04And that's a foul.
00:09:08That's a painful one.
00:09:09Jack Grealish caught.
00:09:11Tewsbury Hall has been booked here, and I think it's for taking the free kick before the whistle had gone.
00:09:25The referee blows his whistle, and Liverpool have won the 247th Merseyside Derby, and continue their 100% record.
00:09:39Liverpool 2, Everton 1.
00:09:41Taking everything into account, that we had to play our third game in seven days, and playing Wednesday evening, having the early kick-off, taking that all into account, and then playing the Derby, and winning it, with a great first-half performance, is good.
00:09:58People keep saying that being 2-0 up is the worst thing Liverpool can be.
00:10:05Yeah.
00:10:06No, no, but I think we had also the opportunity to score more.
00:10:11So, if you have to win, then you know, especially in this game, Everton, with the defence that they have, and they keep coming, keep coming, then you have to defend.
00:10:20But next time, we don't consider it.
00:10:24I think somebody said to me, I think they had maybe nine attempts at goal, and a couple, three or four on target, and we had seven.
00:10:30So, maybe in the end of the day, there wasn't so much between it.
00:10:33We've got no problems, the players are doing really well, and we just pulled up a little bit short against one of the best teams in the league, if not the best, and, you know, it shows that we're coming a long way.
00:10:44You got a yellow card after the final whistle for a disagreement with the referee. Can I ask you what that was for?
00:10:50He gave Kiernan a yellow card for taking a quick free kick, and I was like, I was like, what are you doing? Like, you can't give, we want to get the, we're losing, do you know what I mean?
00:11:00Like, we want to get the ball back in play and carry on playing, and he gives him a yellow card.
00:11:06It baffles me, that's so unheard of, I've never heard of that in my life, so I was just saying that to him, and then also I was saying, where'd you get three minutes from?
00:11:13And one minute in the first half for extra time? I've never heard of that either. Come on. Usually it's four or five minutes, innit?
00:11:21So yeah, this is what it is. You know, we move on. Yeah, and then I didn't even know that he gave me a yellow, actually, so that's news to me.
00:11:32Well, he knows now. And he also talked about added time at the end of the game, but really it wasn't the second half where the game was won.
00:11:40It was a very different second half from the first, where Liverpool put it beyond Everton in the end.
00:11:45Yeah, they were really bright and sharp first half. I think he made some changes which helped them, the freshness.
00:11:50But I thought what they did really well is utilise the space behind Everton's midfield three and the back four.
00:11:55The gaps were too big and Liverpool were really intelligent in how they got the ball in there early.
00:12:00We see early on, there's the Everton midfield three, locked in on their opponents without really thinking about the space behind them.
00:12:08I kind of get it early on, but they get caught out. This time it's Kierkegaard from the left back position.
00:12:14Terrific ball. There's the space. Yeah, maybe the back four could squeeze up a little bit there, but the midfield's job early on, condense that space, be compact.
00:12:21Then they're on to the back four. They actually defend this one pretty well and get away with it, but it was an early warning for them, to be honest.
00:12:29Gravenberg, the holding midfielder, plays the ball and then he just continues his run because they switch off and there's that big gap again we're talking about.
00:12:38When you're playing against players of such quality, they're going to rotate positions, they're going to come in off the wide areas.
00:12:44The deep midfielders, he's brilliant by the way, he's been terrific the last three games.
00:12:48Subozlai in the familiar role. Look, they're so preoccupied with looking at the ball that the gap behind them, they're not thinking about.
00:12:55And maybe the communication between the back line and the midfield wasn't great.
00:12:59And again, they get let off the hook here. Subozlai free on the edge of the box.
00:13:02I think it's Tarkovsky gets the block on this occasion.
00:13:06Ekertike dropped into these lovely little pockets. He likes doing that. Gakpo swapped places with him.
00:13:12And then, of course, good players. They find the spare man in the hole.
00:13:18And when you continually give up that space, as Everton did, you're going to be under the cosh.
00:13:23And at times, they were hanging on and Liverpool were really dominant in that first half.
00:13:27Again, that man I've talked about, Gravenberg, he's in that space, holding midfielder.
00:13:31He's gone past McAllister. He's gone past Subozlai. Super little pass into the forward of Ekertike,
00:13:38who gets another goal and did really well this afternoon.
00:13:41To be fair to Everton in the second half, they must have talked about it because they were more compact.
00:13:46They won more second balls. They condensed that space more and didn't get too preoccupied with what was ahead of them.
00:13:52And from there, they got a foundation into the game. But job done first half, really bright.
00:13:56Yeah, they did improve Everton, but could they have done more to stop the goals?
00:14:00Yeah, I think they could have. I think the goals were really poor goals for Everton to concede.
00:14:06And, you know, when you're going to Anfield, you want to be tight, you want to be solid and not give any easy chances away.
00:14:12And I just felt the goals were too easy for Liverpool to score.
00:14:16So, if we look here, you look at Garner Guy in particular in the middle of the pitch.
00:14:21As Gravenberg lays the ball off, he just carries on his run.
00:14:24Michael Keane gets sucked across, I think, too far.
00:14:26And then the minute that happens, Tarkowski should come across to cover him.
00:14:29But he doesn't. He goes too late.
00:14:32And Gravenberg carries on his run and it's a wonderful ball and an unbelievable finish.
00:14:37And the second goal here, I think, when you look at the back line of Everton, if you look at them there, they never get up.
00:14:45They never get compact. They never get together. They never get on one line.
00:14:48And, as Danny said, with Medekatike, he's a good player. He's really clever here.
00:14:53He can see that Mikhellenko is deeper. He knows he can stay in beyond Michael Keane.
00:14:58And then, Michael Keane can't get back. Tarkowski doesn't cover quick enough.
00:15:05But just here, if you look at Tarkowski, I think if he goes with his left leg, he blocks the shot.
00:15:09He doesn't. He shortens his stride and then goes with his right leg there.
00:15:13And then that allows Ekaterke to get his shot off and it's a fantastic finish.
00:15:17And from there, it makes it very difficult for Everton to get back in the game.
00:15:20Don't you think, Wayne, that some of the confusion comes from Liverpool swapping positions a lot
00:15:24and then they're in between and they don't know who's picking who up?
00:15:28Yeah, I do. But I think on the second goal there, Jordan Pickford plays a long ball.
00:15:32So, it's quite easy for Michael Keane and Tarkowski, the leaders, to make sure they get up and they get on one line.
00:15:39Because the minute you don't, that's what happens. They punish you.
00:15:42The BBC drama series, The City is Al's reference there by Hugo Ekaterke.
00:15:46Clearly a big fan. All episodes available now on iPlayer, should you want to go and watch it.
00:15:50Look, as far as Liverpool's performance goes, Danny, again, they weren't at their best.
00:15:56Are there signs that they are going to kick into gear maybe after the next international break, before then, later?
00:16:02What do you think?
00:16:03I think there's good signs because in most matches they've had great moments.
00:16:06I thought midweek was a really good performance overall, although they had a little spell in the second half.
00:16:10But today, the more obvious thing was the fatigue from Wednesday night in the second half as the game wore on.
00:16:17You could see that. But still so many new players forming relationships and understanding what each other does.
00:16:22You know, Ekaterke is different to Isak. So if you're playing with either one, you have to learn their traits and their characteristics.
00:16:29So to win five out of five, not playing at your best is a phenomenal start for them and actually a really good sign.
00:16:36Let's see if we can do any better for you, Wayne, with the next one, because it's been a tough start to the season for Ruben Amarim's Manchester United.
00:16:43And they face the Chelsea side looking to bounce back from midweek Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich.
00:16:48Your commentator for this one is Guy Mowbray.
00:16:52Of all Manchester United's many problems, the one highlighted most by Ruben Amarim has been not converting chances.
00:17:00And with that in mind, Benjamin Shasko needs to start paying a return on his big money move from Leipzig ASAP.
00:17:07The giant Slovenian striker stays in the side today for his second start in the Premier League,
00:17:12despite being fairly anonymous in the Manchester derby last Sunday.
00:17:16Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, well, he's scored twice from midfield already this season.
00:17:21He only scored twice in the whole of last season, including a cracker here to make it 1-1 in early November.
00:17:29It's a grim day in a grim time for Manchester United.
00:17:34And Chelsea aim to make it a blue day with a first win here since 2013.
00:17:42It does go without saying, but let's say it anyway, conditions will play a big part in this.
00:17:48It's absolutely filthy.
00:17:50Helped on by Shasko, and Bumau is caught by Sanchez.
00:17:56It's going to be a free kick, but what else?
00:17:58Were the defenders covering sufficiently?
00:18:02Peter Banks has a big decision to make.
00:18:08Red card for Robert Sanchez.
00:18:12Shasko makes a difference, quite possibly for the first time in a Manchester United shirt,
00:18:18by helping it on to Emberno, who's been trying his best in every single game.
00:18:26He's off, he's got to go, says Sam Allardyce.
00:18:29So Alex Ferguson was asking for red, and got his wish.
00:18:35Philip Jorgensen is going to come on, and EstevĂŁo is going to be the player replaced.
00:18:43No arguments about the challenge.
00:18:45It was a goal-scoring opportunity.
00:18:50Who's is it?
00:18:52It is Bruno Fernandes straight into the wall, and Bumau over the bar.
00:18:56Deflated that way.
00:19:05Ruben Amarim has doubled down, trebled down, and quadrupled down,
00:19:10but he won't change his system.
00:19:12The quotes get more interesting, by the way.
00:19:15Yesterday, no-one, not even the Pope, will make me change.
00:19:23Nodded into Bruno Fernandes!
00:19:27He had the look once, he had the look twice.
00:19:29The flag has stayed down.
00:19:31And he starts celebrating a 1-0 Manchester United lead.
00:19:38Let's see if VAR will bring anything up as regards offside.
00:19:44I think this will stand.
00:19:47But they'll check it to the millimetre.
00:19:51Is it Bruno Fernandes' 100th goal for Manchester United or not?
00:19:57It is!
00:19:58Manchester United 1, Chelsea 0.
00:20:04Turns out the move was perfectly timed.
00:20:08The finish was perfect to beat Jorgensen.
00:20:13Manchester United 1-up and a man-up.
00:20:17Well, this has to be their day, doesn't it?
00:20:20First thing that's gone against them there, it's a yellow card for Casimiro.
00:20:23Challenge that he didn't really have to make.
00:20:24Six wins out of 33 visits to Old Trafford in the Premier League for Chelsea.
00:20:38Those six wins all under different managers.
00:20:40Joe Pedro takes it on and then loses out to Masraoui.
00:20:45He's got his hands outstretched, claiming he was clipped.
00:20:49The challenge on Joe Pedro is being looked at by Craig Paulson, the VAR.
00:20:53So we'll have a look at it too.
00:20:55And as we do, we get the message all being checked and cleared.
00:20:58The cross comes for Farner.
00:21:03Was he quick enough?
00:21:04Not quite, it's going to be a corner.
00:21:06Bruno Fernandes is nearby, should he be wanted?
00:21:15And he is.
00:21:17Here's Masraoui.
00:21:19Jorgensen decides not to bother.
00:21:23Knocked back into the only place where there wasn't a red shirt.
00:21:26There's one there, and there's one there!
00:21:28It's Casimiro!
00:21:29It's 2-0!
00:21:34Headed in by the Brazilian, but made by a towering Luke Shaw leap.
00:21:45He took off, he actually didn't get anything on it, but Maguire did.
00:21:50And Casimiro did the rest.
00:21:52There's Mbomo, but his swipe didn't make connection.
00:22:01Kukure has made connection there with Masraoui.
00:22:04And he's going to be yellow-carded for it.
00:22:11Kukure has a look, has another look, and jumps into the tackle.
00:22:15You know what?
00:22:16At first that looked as though he just didn't know Masraoui was coming.
00:22:18He knew exactly where he was.
00:22:20He left the floor, and it's not a good tackle at all.
00:22:24Yellow's the least he deserved.
00:22:29Andres Santos.
00:22:32Casimiro has a hold of him.
00:22:34And it is a free kick.
00:22:35Casimiro is on a yellow card.
00:22:38Casimiro is going to be dismissed.
00:22:40It's going to be 10 versus 10.
00:22:42That could be a game-changer.
00:22:44It will certainly change the Chelsea attitude.
00:22:46On the stroke of half-time.
00:22:49The most experienced player on the pitch has just done that.
00:23:01George.
00:23:02Andres.
00:23:07Fernandes.
00:23:10Tomalo Gusto gets a corner, playing it against Shaw.
00:23:17And even Amerim has spoken of his side's need to be more clinical in both boxes,
00:23:21as James puts another cross in.
00:23:24And it's in now.
00:23:27Chalabar's headed home.
00:23:33Amerim now knows he and his players have even more work to do.
00:23:37Supercross from Rhys James, it hung delightfully in the air.
00:23:42Chalabar watching it all the way onto his head.
00:23:44And Garte.
00:23:52Gives it away to James.
00:23:54The atmosphere changes, but Bruno Fernandes has won the ball.
00:23:57It wasn't a great touch by James, and Fernandes is away from him to shoot!
00:24:00Jorgensen has kept Chelsea in it.
00:24:04That goes in, it's all over.
00:24:07The goalkeeper pressed into action just minutes into the match.
00:24:12That's his best bit of action.
00:24:15That's going in from Manchester United's talisman.
00:24:18Ruben Amerim cannot keep still.
00:24:27He needs this today.
00:24:30He has to have this today.
00:24:34Every win, especially in this moment, is important against a great opponent.
00:24:40But I think we start the game in the right way.
00:24:42We were really aggressive.
00:24:45Of course, the centre from Chelsea helped us to dominate the game.
00:24:51Then we scored two goals, and then we try to complicate our game again.
00:24:56It's always complicated with us.
00:24:58Cole Palmer, is that purely just to protect the injury that he's got?
00:25:02No, Cole, this morning, he did a test to play this game.
00:25:05It was not 100%, he did a fantastic effort for the club, for the teammates, for the team.
00:25:13You want to perform, you want to put the best performance as you can out there,
00:25:16but at the end of the day, what matters the most is getting points.
00:25:19We're not getting the points we wanted until now.
00:25:21Today we got the three points, and that's the main thing for today.
00:25:25The red card completely changed the game.
00:25:28After three minutes, then it became difficult.
00:25:30And then after probably the red card for them, again, 10v10, change a little bit the game for us.
00:25:37But overall, I think absolutely we need to start the game in a better way.
00:25:43Danny, three minutes is the earliest that a Premier League goalkeeper has been sent off in 30 years.
00:25:49What did you make of Robert Sanchez's dismissal?
00:25:51I think it's the right decision.
00:25:53I thought United started the game actually just before that, really quickly,
00:25:56with a good tempo and some tenacity about them.
00:26:00Terrific head here from Cesc.
00:26:01And Mbruma loves to run in behind.
00:26:03He loses his time in and his position.
00:26:06Just a rush of blood early in the game, catches him on the knee.
00:26:10It's a difficult one.
00:26:11The referee's got to send him off, really.
00:26:13There will be some conversation about the fact whether he got the ball or not,
00:26:16but you never get away with those as a goalkeeper when you take someone out on the edge of the box.
00:26:21So it was the right decision and gave United then the platform to go on and dominate the early stages of the game.
00:26:28Eventually, Manchester United also down to ten men in that game.
00:26:33When Casemiro was sent off, as we heard in the commentary, one of the most experienced players for Manchester United.
00:26:40What did you make of the manner of the two yellows, Wayne?
00:26:43Yeah, it's silly.
00:26:45It's naive for such an experienced player.
00:26:48Manchester United have full control of the game.
00:26:50And if you look here, there's no need for them to go into that tackle.
00:26:54Chelsea with ten men.
00:26:55And yeah, the conditions were difficult and it was wet and slippy, but yeah, that's a silly book.
00:27:01And I felt then maybe Ruben takes him off, takes him off the game because you always fear that this happens
00:27:07and he goes and gets a second yellow card.
00:27:09It's harsh, it's a bit harsh.
00:27:11He wins the ball, but then you see his arms there pulling him down.
00:27:15So yeah, I think you don't expect that from such an experienced player.
00:27:20And that could have cost Manchester United today, so thankfully it didn't, but yeah, a bit naive.
00:27:23That's the question really, isn't it, is why a player of that experience gets himself into that situation?
00:27:29No, Wayne should know.
00:27:31I've been set up a few times, but not when we've gone to ten men like that.
00:27:34But no, I think he's, I think that's the only way he knows how to play.
00:27:38I think he's passionate, he's front footed, he likes to put his foot in and put tackles in.
00:27:43But I think today he could have just held his composure a little bit better than he did today.
00:27:48The second one was really silly.
00:27:49You know, the last thing you do is go make it even.
00:27:54It was a really bad, and apparently, as Ruben Ham said, he was very aware of it and apologetic after.
00:27:59And they got away with it.
00:28:00So, obviously, Enzo Morescu makes the substitution because he needs to bring on a goalkeeper.
00:28:05But it was three substitutes within 21 minutes of the start of the game, which is the earliest any manager has done that in the Premier League.
00:28:12What did you make of his choices?
00:28:13Well, I think bringing an extra defender on is understandable, and taking off an attacker.
00:28:18But a few minutes later, then Palmer's off after the 1-0 down, and we felt Neto and Cole Palmer coming off was a really negative move.
00:28:26Now, OK, we trust his word that he's struggling a bit with injuries, but maybe he should have brought him off at the beginning then and left Neto on for his pace.
00:28:35Because even when they got level men's second half, they really didn't have that much of a threat on the break.
00:28:40You know, to beat somebody, to beat people, there was only JoĂŁo Pedro who really had that forward thinking.
00:28:45They had no imagination on the pitch, did they?
00:28:47And I felt that that's what was missing for Chelsea.
00:28:49They had a lot of possession going side to side in the second half, but they missed that creativity which a Cole Palmer or Neto could bring them.
00:28:56So, I think the change was strange, but thankfully, it helped United.
00:29:01Well, the change was strange, but the whole game was strange.
00:29:04Can we read anything into either that result or those performances?
00:29:07No, it was a strange game, and I think, obviously, when it went to ten men apiece,
00:29:12I just felt there was no urgency from Chelsea to try and get back in the game.
00:29:16Obviously, they get one goal back from a cross.
00:29:19There was no cross in the box.
00:29:20The two crosses they put in the box, they get one goal, and then they have another good chance.
00:29:23And it was just slow, it was side to side, and yet the weather was poor.
00:29:27But I think if you're a Chelsea fan, you want to see them with a bit more urgency to try and get something out of the game.
00:29:34United did defend well, though, to be fair.
00:29:36They stayed disciplined, they didn't go chasing the game, which was a real clever thing to do when you've got the lead.
00:29:41Now, the pressure has been growing on West Ham's Graham Potter after a poor start to the season.
00:29:47And there were fan protests against the board ahead of their game against Crystal Palace.
00:29:52Commentary comes from Alistair Mann.
00:29:55Graham Potter's requested patience as he shapes his new look team.
00:30:02A statement from the club a few days ago appears to be supportive,
00:30:06accentuating that his remit is to focus on integrating young players from the academy.
00:30:11That said, two heavy home defeats have led to the footballing scribes speculating.
00:30:16And today the Hammers go into a third home London derby without Thomas Socek,
00:30:21whose untimely red card was so pivotal against Spurs.
00:30:24Today Callum Wilson's given his first start since signing, while Alphonse Areola is preferred in goal.
00:30:31The return to fitness of Adam Wharton is the only alteration to the Palace side,
00:30:36which extended its unbeaten start to the season with a draw against Sunderland.
00:30:40Indeed, they've not lost in any competition in their last 16 matches.
00:30:49Crystal Palace haven't lost on any of their last visits to the London Stadium.
00:30:54West Ham haven't won here since February.
00:31:01They've worked that pretty well, Somerville and Dioff.
00:31:07There's good energy about the build-up.
00:31:09And they win the game's first corner from it.
00:31:15Cotter said he was pleased with how that left side was operating
00:31:18when the game was tight against Spurs.
00:31:24Big shape on the ball and it caused confusion.
00:31:28And somehow Palace get it away.
00:31:31And they finished 14th last season at West Ham.
00:31:34He took over in January, remember?
00:31:36Other than a win at Nottingham Forest, they've lost every game so far this season.
00:31:41There were protests pre-match, but not aimed at Graham Potter, but aimed at the board.
00:31:47He's changing the angle well to bring in Munoz.
00:31:57Across towards Pino and then Camada.
00:32:01And just wide of the post.
00:32:04That's probably as close as we've come to a goal.
00:32:07The unity at Sellers Park is in marked contrast to the disunity here.
00:32:17Both content at just halting the other's progress.
00:32:20Ball in name towards Mateta, Camada.
00:32:25And then hit, deflected by Jeremy Pino and out for a corner.
00:32:30Might have hit the arm of Walker-Peters, but it was just slammed at him.
00:32:36Good delivery against the bar, over the line from Mateta and Palace lead.
00:32:45There's been so much talk about West Ham's vulnerability from set-piece defending.
00:32:53Same old story, I'm afraid, for West Ham United.
00:32:58A ball into the box, a gay header against the bar.
00:33:02And Mateta the quickest to react.
00:33:04And despite every effort from Mavropanas on the line, it was already over it.
00:33:11And Crystal Palace in a game where chances have been at a premium.
00:33:15Have West Ham in familiar and rather depressing territory.
00:33:2127th February, the last time West Ham won a home game.
00:33:25He probably knows that.
00:33:27And he's getting to know that.
00:33:31Somerville, Paketar.
00:33:34Good ball, Dioff.
00:33:36And now Somerville, brilliant counter-attack from West Ham.
00:33:40Wilson, is he onside?
00:33:41That's the first question.
00:33:42In the end, he's lost the ball anyway.
00:33:46Somerville, Paketar, Dioff between them, turned defence into attack.
00:33:52And as Wilson tried to come back on the inside,
00:33:56he just found the ball going away from him.
00:34:00Just maybe offer some optimism for those who are supporting the home side.
00:34:06So, having conceded for a seventh time from a corner this season,
00:34:13West Ham must now find a goal against a side who have conceded just once at all in the Premier League so far.
00:34:21West Ham might have some defending to do early in the second.
00:34:24Munoz almost in, that's a good sliding challenge by Dioff.
00:34:30And the only downside to that excellent tackle is that it gives Palace a chance from a corner.
00:34:38And they almost conceded again, La Croix with the header.
00:34:45And it came off the bar.
00:34:47Really good meet by La Croix.
00:34:52Walker-Peters.
00:34:57Now Bowen.
00:34:59Now West Ham have a corner.
00:35:02What can they do to Palace, what Palace have done to them?
00:35:07They're going to get another chance because Wharton's thumped it away.
00:35:14That's on by Bowen!
00:35:24Well, they have done to Palace what Palace did to them.
00:35:28And just as it seemed as though West Ham might have gone two down,
00:35:36now the mood changes again.
00:35:39Bowen just peeled away and glanced in beyond everyone.
00:35:44Here's Bowen.
00:35:49Here's Bowen.
00:35:53Pakatar!
00:35:58Richard's put himself in a good position to clear it.
00:36:01Dioff clips it in.
00:36:03Henderson clears it.
00:36:05Ward-Prowse and now Walker-Peters.
00:36:08And Henderson is there again.
00:36:11And it was headed towards the goal.
00:36:13I don't think it was necessarily going into it from Pakatar that Richard's made sure.
00:36:23Munoz.
00:36:24Watered towards Kamada.
00:36:33And oh, brilliantly turned in.
00:36:36That is a sensational goal by Mitchell.
00:36:38He just sat up to be hit on the volley, but on his supposedly weaker right foot, he has just smashed that into the roof of the net.
00:36:51Like a striker in his pomp.
00:36:54He is a left wing-back.
00:36:55But when you see a finish of that quality, you just wonder why that is.
00:37:01Well, it's been a much better performance, but looks like it might be the same result for Graham Potter.
00:37:10Yet another home defeat in a London derby.
00:37:13I'm getting older and older and the players have to look after my heart.
00:37:20And we had so many situations where we could decide it also to keep a safe one-two.
00:37:25We are not clinical enough, but it's still at the beginning of the season.
00:37:31So it's really good not to be on your top level at the beginning.
00:37:35We need to be on the top level in the crunch time.
00:37:37How difficult a period is this?
00:37:39Yeah, it's tough. Of course it is.
00:37:41I mean, the results are not what we want at all.
00:37:44And I feel for the players. I feel for the supporters.
00:37:47I feel for everybody connected with the club because, you know, it is a tough time.
00:37:52And you're trying to find the answer.
00:37:54And I think that's what we have to do.
00:37:55We have to try to sit together and find a solution.
00:37:58Well, a good win and a great start to the season for Crystal Palace, Wayne.
00:38:03But yet again, West Ham undone by a set piece.
00:38:06Seven of the 13 goals they've conceded this season have been from corners.
00:38:11Yeah, they've been really poor from set pieces.
00:38:14And conceding seven goals already this season is too many.
00:38:18And if we look here, they've actually picked players up.
00:38:22Wan-Bissaka here, you see, he's very tight.
00:38:25But then Kukurea gets a flick on and then that can happen.
00:38:29Wan-Bissaka just doesn't get off the ground here.
00:38:31But again here, Kaysedo come round the back.
00:38:33Second ball again, not reacting to the ball coming in.
00:38:39And this has been a long time coming, hasn't it?
00:38:42Yeah, this is Chelsea a few weeks ago.
00:38:43Again, second ball.
00:38:44And if you look here, you've got four players in the Spurs game.
00:38:47At the front post, they don't once check the shoulder, they don't look over the shoulder to see who's coming in behind them.
00:38:52To see if they can get a block or get a header on the ball.
00:38:55And then the ball comes in the box.
00:38:57Then Bergvall and Palina, clever, block the West Ham defenders here.
00:39:01And then Sar at the back post, it's an easy header and a good goal.
00:39:06And then, if we look at the goal today with Palace, it's a 3v2 by the penalty area.
00:39:12So there's Gahy, gets free, completely free header.
00:39:15And the ball comes in, completely free header.
00:39:19Mateta on the goalkeeper, no one marking him.
00:39:22And Mavropanos, instead of going back to get into Mateta, he goes on the goal line.
00:39:26And then that's too late.
00:39:28Crystal Palace score, another set piece goal.
00:39:31And Graham Potter said that they've been working on the set pieces.
00:39:34And as a coach, when you're working, you're putting the work in, then that's all he can do.
00:39:39He can keep working to try and stop it.
00:39:40He's being asked more and more difficult questions now, Graham Potter.
00:39:44And he is under real pressure.
00:39:45He was under pressure before this game.
00:39:47How much threat is there on his future now?
00:39:50Huge, huge threat.
00:39:51I mean, the numbers of Lopetegui there got him the sack.
00:39:55And Graham Potter's a worse average per game if you go through the metrics there.
00:39:59Look, they don't make enough chances.
00:40:01They don't look a threat.
00:40:03Yes, the set plays are really poor.
00:40:06But if you're not scoring the other end and you're not finding it easy to make chances,
00:40:10and getting the fans off the seat and scoring some goals, then it's real trouble for him.
00:40:16And he's got to find some wins and really quickly.
00:40:19So it's been a really difficult start to the season for West Ham and for Graham Potter.
00:40:24And Wolves manager Vito Pereira signed a new contract this week,
00:40:28despite beginning the season with four straight defeats.
00:40:31Newly promoted leads have only scored once in their first four.
00:40:35Tom Gale was at Molyneux.
00:40:36A significant show of faith in Vito Pereira, despite their worst ever start to a season.
00:40:44Jose Sarr makes his 150th Wolves appearance.
00:40:48Another new deal dished out this week went to JĂŒrgen Strand-Larsen,
00:40:52but he's only fit enough to make the bench.
00:40:54Leeds are still yet to score from open play.
00:40:56Daniel Farker was quick to shut down any talk of throwing 16-year-old striker Harry Gray straight in.
00:41:02He is though amongst the subs.
00:41:04Dominic Calvert-Lewin will want to change his record of no goals in seven appearances against Wolves.
00:41:09Creeci goes cross-fields. Fair Lopez is unable to bring it down.
00:41:20Strouk.
00:41:21Knock a four.
00:41:22Has to go the long way around Agvedu, and it is a long way around that big man.
00:41:33Seems to have lit a fire amongst the Wolves supporters.
00:41:36That leads chant, Creeci!
00:41:38On his home debut, Ladislav Creeci gives Wolves lift-off.
00:41:51Just a nod from head coach Vito Pereira, but he knows that is a huge goal.
00:41:58Lovely passing football.
00:42:01They cut through Leeds United.
00:42:03One-touch stuff.
00:42:05And that is an excellent finish.
00:42:08His first goal for his new club.
00:42:14And Padua.
00:42:17Chachua.
00:42:18Good take by Lopez.
00:42:22Quickly surrounded by three in white, and Leeds have the ball back.
00:42:26Aronson.
00:42:27The American has his first sight of goal.
00:42:33There, Lopez.
00:42:35Guilty of maybe trying to do too much.
00:42:37Running straight into trouble there.
00:42:39The American has only ever scored one goal in the Premier League.
00:42:46And Padua.
00:42:50Bogle.
00:42:51Goes for the cross.
00:42:52It's a deep one.
00:42:54Towards Calvert-Lewin!
00:42:58Who's more than happy to remind doubters that he's still got what it takes to score goals in the Premier League.
00:43:08Just like Wolves, it's their first effort on target.
00:43:12But far more importantly, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is off the mark in Leeds United colours.
00:43:24Joao Gomez.
00:43:26Long staff, quick to close down the space.
00:43:30Aronson.
00:43:31Goodmanson.
00:43:35Still going.
00:43:36Dominic Calvert-Lewin!
00:43:37He didn't get the shout from behind, but he does get a free kick.
00:43:43Well, is this the experience of Dominic Calvert-Lewin?
00:43:46He knows the contact's coming.
00:43:48He's right in front of Anthony Taylor.
00:43:52Goodmanson and Stack are the two options here for Leeds United.
00:43:56It is Anton Stack.
00:44:01Ah!
00:44:03That is a banger!
00:44:06Coming into this weekend, no Premier League player had more shots and created more chances than the German.
00:44:15And perhaps his most difficult effort so far in English football brings about a sensational result.
00:44:21The visitors have come from behind.
00:44:30Stack.
00:44:34Has options left and right.
00:44:36Up to four!
00:44:40What a sensational turnaround in the first half from Daniel Farker's side.
00:44:44A team many questions.
00:44:48Can they score goals?
00:44:50Well, it's an emphatic answer.
00:44:52Three in the opening 45 minutes.
00:44:56It's careless from Wolves.
00:44:58Agbedou gives the ball away.
00:45:01Stack finds his man.
00:45:02And it's another player who bags their first goal in Leeds United colours.
00:45:10This time around, it's Noah Okafor.
00:45:13And he saw Pereira admitted pre-match he isn't yet sure what his best starting XI is.
00:45:22A triple change at the break.
00:45:24Suggests maybe he got the line-up wrong for this one.
00:45:29Agbedou.
00:45:30Brides one challenge.
00:45:33Chichua.
00:45:34Is he in behind?
00:45:35He's away from Goodmonston?
00:45:36No.
00:45:37Spoke too soon.
00:45:39Good recovery.
00:45:40But it is at the expense of a corner.
00:45:45Bueno it is who comes across to take the left-footed in-swinger.
00:45:50It's a deep one.
00:45:53Chua GĂłmez.
00:45:54And tipped over by Darlou.
00:45:56It was Mineczi who got the final touch.
00:46:00And has Carl Darlou at full stretch.
00:46:07Totte.
00:46:13Brave play from the captain.
00:46:15Trying to drive his team forward.
00:46:16Agbedou.
00:46:17Deep cross.
00:46:18Okaforé.
00:46:20Mineczi!
00:46:23It is straight at Carl Darlou.
00:46:26But the save needed to be made.
00:46:30Fine stop.
00:46:35Chichua.
00:46:38Agbedou.
00:46:40Goes low.
00:46:41That is a teasing ball.
00:46:43A nightmare for defenders to deal with.
00:46:47Any touch from a defender and that's potentially in the back of their own net.
00:46:56Absolutely shocking if my lip reading is any good.
00:46:58Stran Larsson.
00:47:01Gomez.
00:47:03Arias can't get there.
00:47:04Gomez can.
00:47:10Bueno.
00:47:11His cross.
00:47:12was met by Arokodare but couldn't keep his effort down.
00:47:23So Wolves become the sixth team to lose their first five games at the start of a Premier League season.
00:47:31Full-time. Wolves won.
00:47:32Leeds three.
00:47:33Today we're more effective, especially better in both boxes, especially in the box of the opponent.
00:47:42Scored three goals, especially in the away game.
00:47:44It doesn't come around that often for newly promoted sides on this level.
00:47:48So pretty happy and delighted and precious points for us.
00:47:50I think going 1-0 down and we show great character and spirit to turn it around and once we got a bit of confidence we start to play and then for me today getting that goal it's nice to get my first one for the club.
00:48:02No one wants to be in this situation but we have nothing, no one else and nothing else to complain about, only ourselves.
00:48:08Can't give away those goals we give away and especially not three in the first half.
00:48:11We need to be doing better every day from now on and hopefully we can do it otherwise this league is too tough to be playing like this.
00:48:18After the goal, our goal, they start to create some problems and we were not in our best level defending in my opinion.
00:48:28Results dictate your future, are you?
00:48:31I'm not worried about my future. I don't need to answer because I'm not worried about my future. I'm worried about the results.
00:48:38And the results are not going their way. They haven't picked up a point yet this season but from Leeds' point of view it was one goal so far this season and that was a penalty.
00:48:47This time around they got the goals, they got the win and they did it away from home, Danny.
00:48:51Yeah, they were really clinical and actually looked like a confident side.
00:48:56They've had some half decent performances since the season started without probably getting the rewards but here is Wolves helping them out.
00:49:02There was some really poor defending. Calvert-Lewin, two centre-halves, should have him covered there.
00:49:07He's in the middle, no pressure on the ball. If you play five at the back, you've got to get pressure out wide and stop the crosses coming in.
00:49:14And he just bullies them both. The keeper's caught in between, do I come, do I not?
00:49:18It's a terrific header from Calvert-Lewin. Great for him to get his confidence up and relationship with the fans.
00:49:23But the mistakes kept coming. I mean, this, just lazy sloppy defending. Silly free kick giveaway from, I think it was Krejci on Calvert-Lewin.
00:49:34When the free kick there, you're always going to give up, give chances I should say.
00:49:39But the keeper, if he just steps a yard and sticks to his side, it's a super strike from Stack.
00:49:46But the goal shouldn't go in when it's the keeper's side. He's just got to position himself better.
00:49:53That shouldn't be going in there, although it is a technically really good strike.
00:49:56And this is, it's just sloppy. It's just basic play. And then Leeds again, really clinical.
00:50:03Nice and positive. The timing of the pass. Good finish from Okafor.
00:50:09And that was it. I mean, three goals in 40 minutes. What a fantastic period in the game for them to then go on and get their first points on the road.
00:50:20But Wolves really are causing their own problems at times with their mistakes and naivety in defending.
00:50:26And Pereira said he's not worried about his future. They've just given him a new contract.
00:50:29You can understand why he would say that. There's obviously a lot of goodwill from last season and the job he did then.
00:50:36But it's been so tough for Wolves. How and what are the signs that they can turn it around this season?
00:50:41Yeah, well, I think we've seen the contracts don't mean that much nowadays.
00:50:46But no, listen, there will be pressure, of course. They've played. They've got no points in the first five games.
00:50:50And there's clearly a lack of confidence there within the team. And obviously, they lost Kunja.
00:50:56Strand Larsson has been out injured. So they need him back quick. And they've got quite a few new players in there.
00:51:01So I think there will be pressure. I think the fans will force that pressure if they don't pick up points soon.
00:51:08But yeah, they need to start picking up points and trying to get the season started.
00:51:13Yeah, but worrying times for Wolves at the moment. There are three games on tomorrow's Match of the Day.
00:51:18Alex Scott puts the Cherries in front. That is just the right way to please your new fan base.
00:51:29The light at the Stadium of Life.
00:51:32Lovely take by Rodgers. He's in. He scores. What a goal by Martin Jubimendi.
00:51:37So, so City of Harland.
00:51:39You can follow those games tomorrow with live commentary on 5 Live and BBC Sounds.
00:51:49Also tomorrow, there's a big game in the WSL.
00:51:52Manchester United take on Arsenal on BBC One from 2.35.
00:51:57Coverage of the World Athletics Championships from Tokyo continues in the morning from 11.
00:52:01And tomorrow night, you can listen to live NFL.
00:52:04Dallas Cowboys take on the Chicago Bears on BBC Sounds from 9 o'clock.
00:52:11Thomas Frank's Tottenham have begun the season with three wins from four in the league.
00:52:16Today, they travel to Brighton. Jonathan Pearce was at the Amex.
00:52:20This is the first test then of Tottenham's strength to deal with the Champions League and Premier League
00:52:25after their testing home victory over Villarreal on Tuesday.
00:52:29Brighton will be the more rested team, are unbeaten at home in six games
00:52:33and did the double over Spurs last season.
00:52:36The home side make four changes from defeat at Bournemouth, two enforced.
00:52:40Cadilloglu starts a league game for the first time since November with De Copa injured
00:52:45and Ayeri replaces Hinchewood who was also injured at the fatality.
00:52:48But Labour is preferred to Milner and Gruda to Welbeck.
00:52:51They might employ two false nines as they did in the victory at Spurs in the last day of last season.
00:52:57There are four Tottenham changes from the league win at West Ham.
00:53:01Udoggi starting for the first time this season.
00:53:03Bentancur, Richarlison and Uderberg come in.
00:53:06Saar, Simons, Spence and Tell go to the bench.
00:53:09Guglielmo Vicario, the goalkeeper, starts.
00:53:10Oh, good run to the dead ball line, pulls it back and Brighton got away with it.
00:53:24Burgwell came in, Udoggi started it, Brighton ball-watching.
00:53:29Middyport lunging challenge risk.
00:53:34And away by Van Hecke in the end.
00:53:38Thomas Frank, good start as the Tottenham head coach, four wins from his opening six games.
00:53:43What about.
00:53:53One back by Minte for Brighton.
00:53:58Here's Brian Gruda.
00:54:00And now, this is a chance for Brighton, first chance of the game.
00:54:03They've got Minte directly in on goal, around the goalkeeper.
00:54:07And Brighton are ahead against the run of play from the opening seven minutes.
00:54:11Suddenly they broke out.
00:54:13And then Kuba Minte scores his first in the campaign.
00:54:17Lovely ball through to him.
00:54:19By the alert.
00:54:21Jorginho Ruta.
00:54:23Tottenham couldn't live with him.
00:54:24That high line exposed by his pace, and he touched it in neatly.
00:54:30And he was just on-site.
00:54:33VAR completed very quickly.
00:54:35And Brighton are ahead.
00:54:37It's the first away goal they've conceded in the Premier League this campaign.
00:54:41Just that one defeat under Thomas Frank so far,
00:54:45came against Bournemouth at home, they've won at Manchester City and West Ham.
00:54:49Charleston and Van Hecke together, if Charleston has stayed down.
00:54:53Here's Bergwahl, blocked by Dunk.
00:54:56One back now by Mitoma.
00:55:01They've given the ball away in the end.
00:55:06Bergwahl.
00:55:08That's pretty poor, straight to Ayari.
00:55:11Oh, it's a terrific goal!
00:55:14Brighton are 2-0 up!
00:55:16Well, moments ago they squandered opportunities where they could have shot.
00:55:19He had one thing in his mind.
00:55:22Yassi Nayari.
00:55:24That's a beautiful second goal for Brighton, swerving beyond Vicario.
00:55:31What a terrific goal.
00:55:33Half-an-hour play, Brighton 2, Tottenham 0.
00:55:35And all the while, Richarlison was down as Brighton built up.
00:55:40But Tottenham had Richarlison down all the way through that build-up.
00:55:44And they'll look at this challenge here, and they won't be happy with that.
00:55:47But the referee allowed it to go on, it's been checked by VAR.
00:55:51None of them saw anything wrong with it.
00:55:53And it's 2-0 Brighton.
00:55:55Intense conversations in the Tottenham technical area.
00:56:02Van Heckerfer, Brighton, Hovabien.
00:56:04Belieber.
00:56:06A bit sluggish, won the ball back Ayari.
00:56:08He took a chance and has given it away, and Brighton are taking chances now.
00:56:12They opened up a gate here for Tottenham to crash through and get back into the game.
00:56:15Bentancur.
00:56:17Bentancur squares it.
00:56:19It comes to Richarlison, and it's in.
00:56:21And Tottenham are back into the game.
00:56:22Brighton are complaining about something.
00:56:26But they should look to their midfielders who gave the ball away.
00:56:28They think there was a handball in the build-up here, Brighton.
00:56:31Nothing wrong with the build-up here.
00:56:34It's pulled back to Bentancur.
00:56:36There's the first shot.
00:56:38Richarlison on the ground.
00:56:40Ball looks good to me.
00:56:42They're just checking to see if there was offside in the build-up.
00:56:45And Tottenham are backing it.
00:56:47Still trading 2-1.
00:56:53Canioglu with the throw.
00:56:54It's crept all the way through to Gruda.
00:56:58Still persisting in there.
00:57:01Jorginho fighting for it as well.
00:57:03He's pulled it back.
00:57:04Ayari's arrived!
00:57:07Brighton's best moment of a poor second half so far.
00:57:10Mayari arriving.
00:57:13Boyd by his first half goal.
00:57:18Simmonds.
00:57:19Good block by Milner.
00:57:22Mandeven won that in the air.
00:57:23He's a doggy again.
00:57:25Now Simmonds will cut in from that side.
00:57:27You're rolling another shot at goal.
00:57:30And he very nearly equalised.
00:57:32It's saved by Verbruggen who got down well.
00:57:35When you could see that coming a mile out what he was going to do.
00:57:40Danger signs are flashing for the home side.
00:57:42Carioglu beaten by Kudas.
00:57:49Berglar steps over it.
00:57:50Simmonds arrived.
00:57:51Big chance should have scored.
00:57:53Had to hit the target from there.
00:57:54Good build-up again created by the run of Kudas,
00:57:57who's been dangerous all day down the right-hand side.
00:58:00Every time he's taken on Carioglu,
00:58:03he's had the beating of him.
00:58:04That's misjudged by Udoggi, Welbeck holds it up for Brighton.
00:58:14And Milner.
00:58:15Carioglu arriving on the left-hand side,
00:58:17played through to Mitoma, he's timed his run well,
00:58:19but he's got a very, very tight angle here.
00:58:21Carioglu arriving!
00:58:25He had the chance to settle it there.
00:58:27Milner with the vision, Mitoma with the timing of the run.
00:58:30He's very, very wide.
00:58:33Carioglu getting up.
00:58:36They have to keep their patience, Tottenham.
00:58:40Simmonds.
00:58:43Still going.
00:58:46Here's Kudas.
00:58:48Fends the cross in.
00:58:49It's got in!
00:58:50And own goal!
00:58:52Off John Paul van Hecker.
00:58:55Saw the cross coming in late.
00:58:57And almost need it beyond his goalkeeper.
00:59:00And it's Brighton 2, Tottenham 2.
00:59:03And it's a deserved equaliser.
00:59:14He's Kudas.
00:59:15Checks back.
00:59:16Has a look.
00:59:17Readjust.
00:59:18Goes for goal.
00:59:19Oh!
00:59:20It nearly went in off Lewis Duncehill, I think.
00:59:22Tottenham will see this as a point well won.
00:59:27And they'll, to be honest, wonder why they haven't had all three.
00:59:31From 2-0 down, after 30 minutes, they've come back to draw 2-2.
00:59:36Brighton need to really improve.
00:59:37They've not hit the heights of last season or the season before, really.
00:59:41But Tottenham Hotspur, this was a gritty display.
00:59:44And in the end, a point they thoroughly deserved.
00:59:46Brighton 2, Tottenham 2.
00:59:48I actually think this is our best performance this season.
00:59:51I think overall was it very good in many phases.
00:59:55We, yeah, we gave the two goals away, which is one is a mistake.
00:59:58One, you know, this aside.
01:00:01Besides that, defending well, aggressive in high pressure.
01:00:04Very good phase one, two and three.
01:00:06Great opportunities.
01:00:07And then the mentality and physical look.
01:00:08I love that.
01:00:09It doesn't feel great.
01:00:11It's a little bit unlucky, the result for us.
01:00:14But overall, I saw a lot of positive things.
01:00:16We did some good steps forward.
01:00:18We had a lot of energy on the pitch, good intensity.
01:00:21So, I thought we did enough to win this game.
01:00:24In the end, of course, Tottenham also had chances.
01:00:27They created, they had a good energy.
01:00:29So, it was a tough game, 50-50 game.
01:00:32But like I said, we conceded in the wrong moments,
01:00:35in the bad timings, the goals.
01:00:36And therefore, yeah, it's only 12-5.
01:00:39You've hit some spectacular goals.
01:00:41And how about that one today?
01:00:42Was that one of your best?
01:00:43No.
01:00:45It was a good one, but not my best.
01:00:47He was swerving though, wasn't it?
01:00:48Made it very difficult for the goalkeeper.
01:00:50Yeah, he told me afterwards, the movement was good.
01:00:53And yeah, I'm happy about the goal.
01:00:55Well, I look forward to seeing his best when it does arrive,
01:00:57because that was a great goal.
01:00:58It was.
01:00:59Look, as far as Spurs are concerned,
01:01:00they go 2-0 down, arguably against the run of play.
01:01:03What did you make of their response to that, Danny?
01:01:05Outstanding.
01:01:06In so many ways.
01:01:07I think one of the...
01:01:08He spoke about it there, Thomas Frank,
01:01:10but a doggy coming to the team.
01:01:12He was terrific.
01:01:13He hasn't started.
01:01:14But players taking responsibility
01:01:16is what a manager wants to see.
01:01:18You're 2-0 down.
01:01:19Men in the box.
01:01:20This is a 2-0 down.
01:01:21From 2-0 down.
01:01:22Still getting men in the box.
01:01:23Still brave enough to get on the ball and make chances.
01:01:26Pressing the intensity.
01:01:28The attitude is still there to do the job.
01:01:31But structured.
01:01:32It wasn't chaotic.
01:01:33It was really well done.
01:01:35And this is the goal that they end up getting eventually through Richarlison,
01:01:40which gave them confidence to get back in the game.
01:01:44Second half, more of the same.
01:01:47Bergwahl with his wonderful physicality.
01:01:49I have to say as well, this team is so fit.
01:01:51So well organised.
01:01:52Kudus, outstanding again.
01:01:54Causing all sorts of problems.
01:01:56Simmonds came off the bench.
01:01:58Made a difference.
01:01:59Nearly moment there.
01:02:00But they just kept going.
01:02:01And they really limited Brighton to very few chances,
01:02:04which is difficult to do when you're throwing men forward
01:02:06and really trying to get back in the game.
01:02:08Again, Kudus.
01:02:10Simmonds there.
01:02:12Wood should do better with his technical ability.
01:02:15Paulina doing what I'm talking about.
01:02:16The hard yards.
01:02:17Breaking up play.
01:02:19And again, players taking responsibility to run at people.
01:02:22To beat players.
01:02:23To try and make passes that are progressive and forward thinking.
01:02:27Weak finish from Richarlison.
01:02:28But in the end, you know, they got their rewards.
01:02:31And I think on their performance, they deserved a win, to be honest.
01:02:34But they'll be happy with the point after going to behind.
01:02:38Again, working the ball.
01:02:40And then putting crosses into the box.
01:02:42You've got four men in there again.
01:02:44If you keep putting crosses in the box and get men going in with intent,
01:02:47you're going to get goals.
01:02:48But terrific performance.
01:02:49I mean, Thomas Frank suggested that might be their best performance
01:02:52of the season so far.
01:02:53What can they achieve if they carry on on that trajectory, do you think?
01:02:57Well, I think top four has to be their ambition.
01:03:00You know, you really have to think that.
01:03:01Because they've got a really good squad now.
01:03:04Competition for places.
01:03:05And capable of winning games against Brighton.
01:03:08Sorry, drawing Brighton and winning at Man City away from home
01:03:10is a great start for them.
01:03:12Now, a League Cup defeat by Swansea on Wednesday night
01:03:16made it two defeats in a week for new Nottingham Forest boss
01:03:19Ange Postokoglu.
01:03:20His side were up against Burnley and their formidable home record.
01:03:24At Turf Moor, Simon Brotherton.
01:03:26Last week's agonising defeat to Liverpool
01:03:31was Burnley's first here at Turf Moor in 16 months
01:03:34since Nottingham Forest were last here
01:03:36on the final day two seasons ago in May 2024.
01:03:40Burnley are forced to make one change with Leslie Ugocuk,
01:03:43who was suspended following his red card here last weekend.
01:03:46Florentino, who's on loan from Benfica,
01:03:49makes his first start after coming off the bench last time out.
01:03:52Murillo misses the match for Forest through injury,
01:03:55so Morato slides across into the middle at the back
01:03:58with Oleksandr Zinchenko in at left back.
01:04:01Douglas Luiz and Dylan Bakwa make their first starts in the league
01:04:05since arriving at the club over the summer.
01:04:07Both teams looking for their second league win of the new season.
01:04:12Here come Nottingham Forest on the attack and winning the first corner of the game.
01:04:21Early on as well with just over a minute played.
01:04:24Dan and Doy on the near side.
01:04:28Douglas Luiz sends it across.
01:04:34What a start for Nottingham Forest.
01:04:37Blasted home by Nico Williams with less than two minutes played.
01:04:43Burnley behind already.
01:04:50And Nico Williams scores his first goal since the 7-0 win over Brighton back in February.
01:04:58Luiz with the corner, only half cleared.
01:05:01And thumped in by a deflection by the Welsh international.
01:05:06Burnley, who conceded very, very late in their last home match,
01:05:11concede exceedingly early in this one.
01:05:15Well, just the sort of start that he will have been hoping for,
01:05:18particularly given the way things ended during the week in the League Cup.
01:05:25Laurentino sprays it high and long and suddenly Hartman has a shot and goal.
01:05:31Well, that outsells scrambling to the near post.
01:05:35There's a lovely pass from Florentino.
01:05:38And a quick shot from the boot of the left-back.
01:05:47Hartman's delivery and Chowna going for it.
01:05:50And it's gone in!
01:05:52Off Oleksandr Sinchenko as he tried to clear it off the line.
01:05:59Burnley draw level after 20 minutes.
01:06:02Frustration for the Forest defender.
01:06:05It's Jadon Anthony's shot.
01:06:08And as it headed towards the goal, it was redirected into it.
01:06:13The only decision to be made is whether it was goal-bound
01:06:16and whether it would be an own goal for Oleksandr Sinchenko.
01:06:20But Jadon Anthony claiming the equaliser for Burnley.
01:06:23Zinchenko.
01:06:29Louise back into Anderson, collected by Gibbs-White.
01:06:31Real threat here!
01:06:32Back what I could say!
01:06:33That's a fine start by Dubravka.
01:06:36Lovely play from Nottingham Forest.
01:06:38Zinchenko, Louise, Anderson, Gibbs-White.
01:06:42And then the first-time shot is turned round the post.
01:06:48Forrest looking composed in possession.
01:06:51Dan and Doi up against Walker.
01:06:53Anderson leading the link of it.
01:07:03He'll take the return.
01:07:04Little ball in!
01:07:05Chris Wood!
01:07:06And again, they very nearly worked their way into
01:07:10a genuine goal-scoring opportunity there for a second.
01:07:14Once more, Scott Parker's team competitive in one of their early season matches.
01:07:23Foster waits in the middle.
01:07:25Chowna has it.
01:07:26Josh Laurent on the overlap.
01:07:29Cullen Walker.
01:07:31Free kick.
01:07:32Fouled by Bakwa.
01:07:35Now it's Nottingham Forest very much on the back foot
01:07:39as we head for the last minute of the first half.
01:07:42Everyone back inside their own box for Forrest.
01:07:47Chowna strikes it.
01:07:49It's a beauty of a free kick
01:07:51and he's really unlucky not to have his first Burnley goal.
01:07:57Still on the attack.
01:07:59Hartman floats it across.
01:08:00Esteve.
01:08:02Foster with the shot.
01:08:04Deflecting against Dylan Bakwa.
01:08:07What a lovely free kick that was.
01:08:09Forrest relieved.
01:08:10Almost on the stroke of half-time.
01:08:12That it stays at 1-1.
01:08:15At the start of the second half, it's still Misley and Drizzley
01:08:19here in Lancashire.
01:08:25Forward off the boot of Ekdal.
01:08:27Into Anthony.
01:08:28This is a nice flowing move from the host.
01:08:30It's Jadon Anthony.
01:08:31Denied by cells.
01:08:33Chowna able to collect it.
01:08:37It was almost an outstanding start to the second half for Burnley.
01:08:44Sinchenko with the opportunity to clear.
01:08:47Burnley have it back here with Jadon Anthony across.
01:08:50And Foster was so close to just turning it home.
01:08:56Burnley out of the traps very quickly.
01:09:00Following the restart.
01:09:03Murato.
01:09:07And still.
01:09:08Williams.
01:09:09To Anderson.
01:09:10Whipping it in on the header.
01:09:11Superb save from Dubravka.
01:09:12And Igor Jesus was mighty close to a first Premier League goal.
01:09:25The Brazilians header wonderfully saved by Martin Dubravka.
01:09:29Ibrahim Sangari.
01:09:32Gibbs-White.
01:09:35Forrest sensing an opportunity.
01:09:38Following the changes that they've made.
01:09:40Jesus waits in the middle.
01:09:42And it's beyond the Brazilian.
01:09:44And met by Niko Williams, who's denied by Dubravka.
01:09:48Another superb stop by Burnley's goalkeeper.
01:09:52That's two in relatively quick succession to deny Jesus and also Williams.
01:10:00Forrest pushing hard for a winner here.
01:10:05Sent on its way by Matt Sells.
01:10:07Here's Gibbs-White.
01:10:09And it's a comfortable save.
01:10:11And that was the last action of the game.
01:10:14It's a hard point for both of them.
01:10:17The full-time score at Turf Moor.
01:10:19Burnley won.
01:10:20Nottingham-Forrest won.
01:10:22I think the point's probably fair enough.
01:10:23I think both teams jabbed their way through the game at times
01:10:26and was looking for a knockout punch.
01:10:27And I think over the course of the game today, we have some very good chances.
01:10:32And I think Forrest have some as well.
01:10:34I think the point's a fair result.
01:10:36I thought we controlled the game really well.
01:10:38We had a couple of sort of sloppy moments, which just allows them to sort of get a bit of traction in the game.
01:10:43But, you know, we handled it really well either side as sort of the goal.
01:10:50And I thought the second half, like I said, we certainly created enough chances to win the game.
01:10:54We've been hugely competitive.
01:10:55We need to maintain that.
01:10:57And I'm always conscious of that really.
01:11:00There's some fundamentals in this group and fundamentals in us as a team that give us that opportunity.
01:11:04And we need to maintain that.
01:11:05From seven days ago when we played Arsenal, and I know it's a different opponent, but we're looking at a different team.
01:11:11And that's what I wanted to see.
01:11:12You know, we saw elements of that on Wednesday night as well.
01:11:15And, you know, that's great for me because it means the players are sort of responding to what we wanted to do.
01:11:22And if we keep making that kind of progress, you know, the results will follow.
01:11:26Well, it was another point for Burnley at Turf Moor.
01:11:30Chances for both sides in that one to go on and win it.
01:11:33But Ange Postacoglu made the point there.
01:11:36The Arsenal game was very early in his time, and it was always going to be a difficult game for Forrest.
01:11:41Then there were ten changes for the game in midweek in the Cup.
01:11:44So what did you make of this version of Nottingham Forest under Postacoglu?
01:11:49I think we've seen Ange's philosophy here, and how he wants to play.
01:11:54And the players have took it in quite quickly.
01:11:55I was impressed with Nottingham Forest today at all.
01:11:58The rotation between Gibbs-White, Douglas-Louis and Anderson, and Zinchenko,
01:12:04just picking up random positions really.
01:12:07But Forrest were committing players forward.
01:12:09Again, now counter-pressing Anderson going in.
01:12:12Winning the ball back, and then they're on the front foot trying to go forward and create chances.
01:12:17It doesn't pay off this time.
01:12:20But then again here, we looked at the rotation.
01:12:22What they've done a lot was different players were filling in different positions.
01:12:26And Zinchenko again, from left-back going in.
01:12:29Now he's on the top line, making the running behind.
01:12:32And again, counter-pressing.
01:12:36But then again, if you look at the positions, picking up the pockets in behind the midfield.
01:12:41Being difficult to pick up.
01:12:43And if you look here, this is typical Ange.
01:12:46Six players on the top line.
01:12:48And it's important from behind.
01:12:50Zinchenko again picking up positions, which was very difficult for Burnley players to pick him up.
01:12:56Douglas-Louis here making a good running behind, which creates the space for Zinchenko to get turned.
01:13:01And then this is lovely play.
01:13:03One-touch football.
01:13:04One-touch, one-touch.
01:13:05Again, takes a touch and back go out with a good attempt.
01:13:09A really good save from the goalkeeper.
01:13:11And then again here, Anderson playing it off.
01:13:15And then if you look at the amount of bodies the Forrester have put forward now in players.
01:13:19But this is, with Ange, this is what you get.
01:13:22Burnley are very dangerous on the counter-attack if they nick the ball here.
01:13:26But they don't.
01:13:27They go through.
01:13:28And it's a really good chance for Chris Wood and he should finish it really.
01:13:30But I think Andrew will be really, really happy with the progress he has seen.
01:13:34He'll look at that picture though, doesn't he?
01:13:35No, he doesn't.
01:13:36But I think he will be really happy with the progress he's seen.
01:13:39He's disappointed to lose to Swansea.
01:13:41But the progress he's seen from the Arsenal game, I think he'll be really pleased with that.
01:13:45Yeah, a really good performance from them.
01:13:47But the points were shared.
01:13:49And it was a West London derby in the day's late game as Brentford made the short trip to Fulham.
01:13:55Your commentator is Martin Fisher.
01:13:57The table bedfellows last season.
01:14:02These London neighbours have both made steady starts to the new campaign.
01:14:07Beginning the day 11th and 12th in the table.
01:14:11Fulham unchanged.
01:14:12Harry Wilson starting then after his heroics as a sub in this fixture last season.
01:14:18Surprisingly perhaps Brazilian Kevin begins the night on the bench after his lively cameo a week ago.
01:14:26Brentford make one change from last week's draw with Chelsea.
01:14:30Mikel Damsgaard returning and replacing fellow Dane Matthias Jensen.
01:14:35Jordan Henderson makes his 500th league appearance.
01:14:39Nine minutes in, and Brentford about to unleash their third long throw of the evening.
01:14:48Fulham have been working hard on defending these all week, and they just about got away with that.
01:14:53It almost went all the way through, might have taken a couple of flicks on its way through.
01:14:57Had it evaded the grasp of Bernd Leno, it would have been a goal of course.
01:15:01Just closed his legs at the absolute precise moment.
01:15:06Brentford have lost both of their away matches so far.
01:15:11King, oh, careless, straight to Damsgaard, what a chance for Brentford!
01:15:15And Damsgaard slaps it home.
01:15:18Oh, it's a horror moment for Josh King,
01:15:22and understandably all of his teammates so, so quick to get around the teenager.
01:15:28We've seen him knock a few early passes like that throughout the evening already.
01:15:34This time straight to Damsgaard.
01:15:36And on his return to the first team in the Premier League,
01:15:39the Dane was not going to miss that chance.
01:15:45Anderson for Lukic, that's loose.
01:15:47This time it's Sharder who looks to profit.
01:15:50Force wide by Bassi, force very wide, and the chance is gone.
01:15:54Good defending by Bassi.
01:15:56More careless work with the ball by Fulham.
01:16:02This time it's Lukic who's the guilty man.
01:16:05But unlike Damsgaard before him, Sharder couldn't capitalise to the max.
01:16:10It's Iwobi far side.
01:16:14Tete.
01:16:17Lukic.
01:16:19Oh, that's awkward.
01:16:23Collins can't get it away.
01:16:25It's Iwobi!
01:16:26And it's 1-1.
01:16:27Fulham level.
01:16:28It's just as the ball is locked in here, the deflection took weight off it,
01:16:29but it was swirling very awkwardly for Collins.
01:16:31And then the ricochet bounced so invitingly for Iwobi.
01:16:35Fulham have an equaliser before the break.
01:16:40And here's Munoz, and he's got Iwobi again to his left-hand side.
01:16:44Iwobi looking for Wilson!
01:16:46What a glorious finish from the man who wrote his name all over this fixture last season.
01:16:58Came of the banks to score twice and that in time in that one.
01:17:07Well, he's finished that one with so much poise.
01:17:10It's all gone horribly wrong for Brentford in the space of 90 seconds.
01:17:15And he's finished that one with so much poise.
01:17:19with so much poise, it's all gone horribly wrong for Brentford
01:17:26in the space of 90 seconds, and the whole atmosphere around Craven Cottage
01:17:31has changed, as has his mood, big-time.
01:17:37King goes down under the challenge of Henderson,
01:17:42and he's going to be booked for simulation.
01:17:46I think a lot inside the stadium thought that this might be given as a penalty.
01:17:51This night, from a personal point of view, is not getting that much better, is it?
01:17:54Gave away the goal, and now he's been yellow-carded.
01:18:05Anderson, the diagonal to find Sessegnon, who will look to attack Coyote,
01:18:10it's a good ball in, no too much about it!
01:18:15And it's in the back of his own goal, and it's 3-1 Fulham.
01:18:22And for the second successive week, a visiting player has put through his own goal
01:18:29at the Hammersmith end at Craven Cottage.
01:18:32Well, there's no doubt about it, it's a quality ball in from Ryan Sessegnon.
01:18:36It was just a bit too strong for Munoz, and Pinnock just trying to get his head out of the way.
01:18:42That's off his shoulder, isn't it?
01:18:44A horror moment for Pinnock.
01:18:46And now daylight between Fulham and their West London neighbours.
01:18:52Well, they never scored more than three last season,
01:18:56and they only scored three on four occasions in the Premier League.
01:19:01Collins goes down as Wilson helps it on, bounces invitingly for Munoz, and what a finish!
01:19:09What a hit that was by Rodrigo Munoz!
01:19:18Brentford players have surrounded Michael Oliver,
01:19:21they feel in the build-up that Nathan Collins was taken out of the game,
01:19:25you can see blood pouring from a mouth wound.
01:19:30VAR obviously will check.
01:19:32Meanwhile, Fulham celebrate what they hope will be their fourth goal of the evening.
01:19:40Well, that's how it happened.
01:19:42Is it intentional? Is it accidental? It certainly took Collins out of the game,
01:19:46but it doesn't take anything away from the quality of that hit by the big Brazilian.
01:19:51And Michael Oliver has been directed by the VAR, Jared Gillett,
01:19:58to come across to the pitch-side monitor to have a closer look at that incident.
01:20:05It's the right elbow there of Munoz that clatters into Collins' face.
01:20:12So here we go.
01:20:13After a view, Fulham number nine makes no contact with them all,
01:20:17and catches his opponent in the face with his arm.
01:20:20The final decision is direct free-kick to Brentford.
01:20:22No one's not going to count.
01:20:25Quite possibly his best goal for Fulham.
01:20:28He's scrubbed out.
01:20:31Two wins in a row for Fulham then.
01:20:34Something they only managed twice throughout last season.
01:20:38Two in a row is a very, very good feeling for us,
01:20:42and very difficult to achieve and the feeling is top.
01:20:47Well deserved.
01:20:48That is the main thing.
01:20:50I think we were the best team on the pitch from the first minute until the last one.
01:20:54The performance overall was a little bit disjointed.
01:20:57Certainly with the ball and that lacked that little bit of quality at times,
01:21:01where we got into good areas.
01:21:02Whether that was 1v1, that final pass, that final little bit of quality was just lacking.
01:21:08I'm proud of the players and make the fans to feel and to have a better weekend is always what we want,
01:21:14and it's because that we work so hard.
01:21:17More three points and we have to move on.
01:21:18Danny, they did work hard and they got a lot of joy down the left.
01:21:22They did.
01:21:23There was lots of quality.
01:21:24He would be especially pleased after coming back from a goal down.
01:21:28Played with some confidence.
01:21:29Sessin Yoniwobi down the left-hand side caused all sorts of problems to Brentford.
01:21:32The majority of the attacks were down this way, but a lot of confidence in this Fulham side.
01:21:38They play some really good football.
01:21:40They're all happy to have the ball and they commit men forward.
01:21:44And then when this does drop to Iwobi, technically really good finish,
01:21:47really confident finish and that gave them then the confidence and the impetus
01:21:53to really go after Brentford and cause them more problems.
01:21:56I mean this, you can see the two boys at the top of your screen again willing to go forward,
01:22:01but he doesn't use him this time.
01:22:02That is an exquisite little pass and we know what a great finisher Harry Wilson is
01:22:08and he loves playing against Brentford.
01:22:10And this is Sessin Yoniwobi in the second half whipping in another great ball
01:22:13and he did many of them today and gets the own goal.
01:22:15But lots to be pleased for from Marco Silva, from his team's performance.
01:22:21So many good aspects.
01:22:22Quick word on Brentford, Wayne.
01:22:24Man United, Manchester City and Liverpool at home, three of their next four matches.
01:22:28It's going to be a tough run.
01:22:29Yeah, I'm a bit concerned for Brentford, I think.
01:22:32Obviously losing Thomas Frank is a big factor in that and they've lost some big players as well.
01:22:38And I think with the promoter teams who've come up as well, they're all doing okay.
01:22:41And so I think it's going to be a long, old season for Brentford.
01:22:45And I've got worries that they possibly could go down.
01:22:49Yeah, tricky transition season for Brentford.
01:22:52And they'll be hoping that they can maintain their Premier League status.
01:22:55Talking of which, let's take a look at the Premier League table.
01:22:59Liverpool continue their perfect start after making it five wins from five in the Merseyside Derby.
01:23:05Crystal Palace climb to fourth after extending their unbeaten run to 17 games in all competitions.
01:23:11Wolves begin the campaign with five defeats for the first time in their league history.
01:23:16West Ham lose their opening three home games for the second successive season.
01:23:22Thank you very much to Wayne and to Danny for your company.
01:23:25It's been a mixed day for you two, but Liverpool get their kicks.
01:23:29And for now at least, the city is theirs.
01:23:32Good night.
01:23:56I'm believe that only something we've got to wait.
01:23:59Thank you very much.
01:24:02And for then at least, I'm going up to see.
01:24:05I'm going up to see.
01:24:06We're going up to see.
01:24:08And here, I'm going up to see.
01:24:10The day, I'm infecting tonight.
01:24:13What will we do in the middle of this fall?
01:24:16You'reăŽAL-O mir.
01:24:17How does it even take you?
01:24:19What a cool guy after that.
01:24:21I'm not getting upset with you.
