Elderly British couple held for months by Taliban reunited with daughter
Transcript
00:00...if we can. Tell us more. Tell us about the moments that are happening before us at the moment.
00:09Yeah, I can't hear you over the sound of the engine, but I can make out that you have come to us.
00:14And yes, what a moment. Peter and Barbie Reynolds being greeted by their family here on the tarmac in Doha.
00:22A moment, I imagine, they felt might never happen, but here they are.
00:28Sarah, their daughter, hugging her father, Peter, there.
00:34What a moment for them both.
00:50And there's Barbie in the red-haired scarf there as well.
00:55Sarah ran around the officials to approach her mother first, and we just saw the joy on her face as she surprised her mother on the tarmac here.
01:04An extraordinary moment for this family who've been through so much after nearly eight months in detention in Afghanistan.
01:15Peter and Barbie Reynolds are now in Qatar, reunited with some of their family members.
01:21Absolutely emotional scenes here in Doha.
01:28And certainly something that they said came together very quickly.
01:33They didn't expect this, and then they heard with very little notice that this was about to happen.
01:39And hopefully we'll soon learn a little bit more detail about how this came to pass.
01:44But the Qataris have certainly been absolutely integral in this whole process, in touch with the family for months, providing medical support, getting hold of medication for them, contacting their doctor, and also providing them with contact for their family.
02:03Let's see if we can see if we can get a word.
02:05Barbie.
02:14Clearly, they'd rather be speaking to each other, which we fully understand.
02:19But we'll see if they want to say anything to us.
02:22No, we do think there's going to be a press conference inside very shortly where we will hear more from them.
02:29But what a moment there for Barbie and Peter Reynolds, who've devoted so much of their life to charitable work in Afghanistan and then found themselves arrested and in detention in Afghanistan for nearly eight months, separated for most of it.
02:47And it sounds like the conditions they were kept in were extremely difficult.
02:53Let's see if we can get a word with them.
03:00Hello, Barbie.
03:01You're live on Sky News.
03:02Welcome to Doha.
03:04How does it feel?
03:06Wonderful to be here.
03:07I would prefer if we just let them be with their family.
03:10We're being moved away here, which obviously we'll respect, and we will hear from them very shortly.
03:24You're watching Sky News.
03:26It is just coming up to 10 to 5 local time in Doha.
03:3110 to 3 here in London.
03:33We are watching live images being brought to us of Barbie and Peter Reynolds as they make those steps from the aircraft.
03:45This is Peter Reynolds alongside his daughter, Sarah.
03:49As they enter the terminal building, you can hear Sally Lockwood, who is on scene for us.
