Texas Tech student expelled after video showing Charlie Kirk rant | LiveNOW from FOX

An 18-year-old Texas Tech University student is no longer enrolled at the university after a video appearing to show her mocking the death of Charlie Kirk went viral.

The now-former student, Camryn Giselle Booker, is allegedly seen in the videos arguing with another person in the free speech area on the campus.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott shared a post on X saying the Texas Tech student "definitely picked the wrong school to taunt the death of Charlie Kirk."

Texas Tech confirmed on Monday to FOX Television Stations in an email that Booker is no longer enrolled at the university.

"Any behavior that denigrates victims of violence is reprehensible, has no place on our campus, and is not aligned with our values. Federal law prevents Texas Tech University from commenting on individual student conduct matters. We take all reported violations seriously and address them under university policy and the law," the university also said in a statement.

Booker was also arrested and charged with assault following the incident, the Lubbock County Assistant District Attorney confirmed to KCBD NewsChannel 11 in Lubbock. Booker has since bonded out of jail. Her bond was set at $200.

00:00has been expelled after a video came to light and really went viral after showcasing a large rant
00:08against Charlie Kirk. I want to show you now the very latest from Fox 4 Dallas's Alex Boyer with
00:15the latest. The shooting death of conservative influencer and celebrity activist Charlie Kirk
00:23last week ignited tense confrontations like this one on the campus of Texas Tech University Friday.
00:34That's 18-year-old Cameron Giselle Booker. In new cell phone videos shared with Fox 4 News,
00:40you see the now former student arguing with another student wearing a MAGA hat holding a sign that says
00:47rest in peace Charlie Kirk. The encounter took place in what's known as a free speech area on campus
00:53In the videos, Booker appears to mock Charlie Kirk's death.
00:57You started saying, ha ha, your homie dead.
00:59Yeah, homie dead.
01:03Evil is real, people, and it kind of looks like that.
01:07There are several exchanges between the two. A couple of times, the other student asks Booker
01:12to leave him alone. Why are you being so hateful? Why are you so hateful? Why are you so hateful?
01:16Why are you so hateful? Yeah. Can somebody tell her to back up?
01:19Can you not- At one point, she flicks the baseball cap of the guy she's arguing with,
01:24presumably what led to her arrest for misdemeanor assault, although the police report does not include
01:30that detail. After her arrest, Governor Greg Abbott amplified the incident with this message and image
01:36on X. I asked the governor about it at an event held in Forney this afternoon.
01:41If we have members of our society, whether they be students or otherwise, who celebrate
01:48an assassination, we have dramatic course correction that we have to take in this state.
01:54This isn't an isolated incident. Abbott also posted about another incident at a Charlie Kirk
02:00memorial event held at Texas State in San Marcos. The unidentified young man interrupts the gathering
02:06with mock gestures to imitate Kirk's shooting death. In a statement, the president of Texas
02:12State said, in part, I have directed university officials to take immediate steps to identify
02:19the individual in the video. Behavior that trivialized or promotes violence is reprehensible
02:24and violates the values of Texas State. And we as a society, we as a state, must send a signal
02:31that behavior like that, celebrating an assassination, is wrong in a civil society.
02:40That was Alex Boyer reporting there. And we also want to, again, just show you just some of the
02:46more reaction from Governor Greg Abbott saying, definitely picked the wrong school to taunt the
02:52death of Charlie Kirk, thanks Texas Tech. And he also says, this is what happened to the person who
02:58was mocking Charlie Kirk's assassination at Texas Tech there. So again, just some of the more
03:07reaction from the political leaders showcasing this protest that definitely went sideways really fast
03:14than that student being expelled.
