00:10New York a Democrat veteran you were listening to what Scott said just there and what what is

00:18your reaction to what we've seen unfold today you know politics is so deeply emotional and

00:24personal today and my heart really goes out to Scott you and everyone else in your movement who

00:35works so closely with him because there's nothing like being in the political trenches

00:41to forge incredible incredible bonds and I just can't imagine the pain that everyone is going

00:48through I would urge us particularly in a moment like this to both not make this political and

00:56also to not jump to conclusions we're not aware of the political affiliation of the of the shooter

01:03either we have no idea what's going on right now and so perhaps the only slight change I would make

01:11to what you said our suggestion is is that I fear for anyone who's outspoken today for their safety

01:17for how vitriolic the world is becoming what I would just say from a purely analytical standpoint

01:25of that horrific video is that whoever the shooter was had an opportunity to undertake a mass shooting

01:31there and did not fired only one shot David stand by I want to bring in a witness to the shooting

01:38Dallin Smith Dallin I understand you're you're a former student at Utah Valley University where this

01:45apparent assassination happened you were there with your sister tell us what was the atmosphere like

01:51before the shot rang out yeah the atmosphere was buzzing I wasn't expecting that many people to be

01:57there you know I wanted to go and I wanted to be there a little bit earlier to ask Charlie a question

02:02I wanted to have a little bit of a of a debate with him but when I got there there was thousands of

02:07people there more than I expected and it was buzzing there's a lot of energy a lot of a lot of people

02:10were smiling calling on the phones taking videos everyone seemed to be having a good time where

02:16were you uh standing how far were you from him and could you make out at all the direction of where

02:21the shot may have been fired from the direction of the shot no um I wasn't in the crowd at least on the

02:28ground there was a walkway above Charlie's kind of tent where normally you know on a normal day of

02:34campus you can walk back and forth between the two buildings but they had it taped off and up to the

02:39degree of where it was taped off I was on the right side I guess the left side of his tent um

02:43and I was overlooking the entire crowd um and it was it was uh I could see basically everything I

02:51couldn't necessarily see Charlie because his his tent is kind of you know blocked off from all corners

02:55except for the front um but yeah I could see everything I couldn't tell the direction the shot was

03:01made out of unfortunately how are you and your sister doing this is a horrible thing to witness

03:05yeah it was definitely a little bit surreal um you know it was we we heard two two pops and we ran um

03:15and some a lot of people ran with us when I was standing by the door kind of overseeing what was

03:20happening is some people were standing there still taking videos so I went back out to look over the

03:24railing to see like maybe someone just did some firecrackers something like that um but more and more

03:29people were were screaming crying dispersing super quickly from the scene more and more people um were

03:36headed Charlie's way um and yeah just just pure craziness and then after getting back into the

03:41building just tons of people flooding um to go outside get away from the scene a lot of tears a lot

03:46of phone calls um me and my sister we're good for sure we're good um you know obviously prayers up for

03:51for Charlie's family and anyone else who's who's a little bit shooken up but yeah it was definitely

03:56scary in the moment for Dalen what kind of a law enforcement or security presence did you see

04:01when you came um there and after you heard the pops what was there a big security presence or what

04:08I would say it was fairly mild for the amount of people that were there I don't know if they

04:14expected that many people I don't know it seemed like a little bit more than some of the other

04:16events that you can you know kind of watch um when I was you know coming through the doors of the

04:22campus I didn't see any security um that that wasn't really my impression of what was going on

04:28I didn't see many security I saw you know maybe oh we just lost Dalen Smith well thank you to Dalen

04:33and uh we're thinking about him and all the witnesses to this horrific event I do want to bring in we have

04:38an eyewitness to the shooting who is on the phone with us at Radon to Shane Radon thank you very much

04:46for being willing to call in and tell us what you saw here uh can you walk us through where you were

04:53what you saw what you heard this afternoon yeah so I was right up front so there's a temp for the

05:02Charlie for Charlie and his security and whatnot and his hat and then there's a walk there was like

05:08a two guardrails with a walkway between the two guardrails uh for the people that were going to go up

05:13and do their uh prove me wrong debate and then I was right up against the I was off to if if I was

05:20looking toward at Charlie I was off to the right center right against the great and he was just on

05:27his second interview and it was uh it was about uh gun control it was a whole new transgender issue

05:37where they're talking about you know uh maybe taking away their rights or whatnot um I'm not sure

05:43all all about that but all of a sudden I heard just one pop saw Charlie all of a sudden like

05:50fall his head kind of fell US Europe Australia a lot of people want to work

06:07injuries but the
