00:00Brazil's beef exports to the United States declined further in September,
00:04according to the head of Brazil's Beef Exporters Association, ABIEC.
00:09The head of the group, Roberto Perosa, says
00:11the drop follows higher tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Brazilian goods.
00:19He added that shipments to the U.S. were expected to reach about 7,000 metric tons in September,
00:26down from around 9,000 tons in August.
00:28Before the tariffs took effect in August, exports had averaged 30,000 tons a month.
00:34The United States had been Brazil's second-largest beef buyer after China,
00:38but following new tariffs, Mexico has now taken that spot.
00:42Washington imposed a 50% levy on several Brazilian products,
00:46on top of an existing 26.4% tax on beef imports outside the quota.
00:51Perosa said losing the U.S. as a major market was a significant setback,
00:56though insisting that Brazilian exports remain competitive,
00:59even under a combined tariff of 76.4%.
