00:03On Sunday night, SpaceX launched Northrop Grumman's biggest-ever cargo spacecraft
00:08on its very first mission to the International Space Station.
00:11Called Cygnus XL, this new beast carried over 11,000 pounds of supplies,
00:16more than any Cygnus ever before.
00:18It launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral at 6.11 p.m. EDT,
00:23part of a mission called NG-23.
00:26But what makes this flight even more special?
00:28It's the debut of the Cygnus XL,
00:31a larger, upgraded version named SS William Willie McCool
00:35after a fallen NASA astronaut.
00:37Inside?
00:38Materials for space-made semiconductor crystals,
00:41tools to improve cryogenic fuel tanks,
00:44and even a UV light system to fight microbes in space water.
00:47Plus, supplies to produce cancer-fighting pharmaceutical crystals in microgravity.
00:52The spacecraft will reach the ISS Wednesday morning,
00:55not by docking on its own, but by being captured with the station's Canadarm2 robot arm.
01:00It's set to stay at the station until March 2026,
01:04before burning up in Earth's atmosphere.
