00:00India and the U.S. are holding a day of trade talks.
00:04Obviously, we've spoken a lot about this in the past.
00:07Do you think there'll be a breakthrough in the stalled negotiations on a trade deal between the two countries?
00:15With great respect to both sides of this trade deal, no, Leanne, I don't see much coming out of this.
00:21The U.S. delegation in India is led by a pretty junior person who I don't think will have the authority to negotiate very much.
00:30It's nice to see that the rhetoric has softened a little bit.
00:33You know, there were so many negative things said about India being a dead economy.
00:37But I think one of the things that the U.S. wants to see out of India is an opening up of the agricultural market.
00:43Donald Trump would love to send a lot more farm products to India.
00:46And India has a long history of protecting its farmers.
00:50More than 40 percent of the population is or more than 40 percent of the workforce works in agriculture.
00:55So getting India to pry open those agricultural markets will be a real challenge.
