A groom couldn’t stop sobbing tears of happiness when his stepdaughters surprised him and their mom with a heartwarming adoption request on the couple’s wedding day. Since Jacob Tallman, from Kirksville, Missouri, came into the lives of Cadence 14, Carah, 10, and Carlee, nine, two years ago, he’s shared a special bond with his now-wife Challis' three children. Jacob, 33, who goes by Jake, met single mom Challis, 34, via TikTok in August 2023, and the pair started talking regularly via the app's Live feature before moving to other messaging apps. Having seen their bond grow, Challis took the big step of moving her family from their home in Houston, Texas, to Missouri where Jake lived with his daughters, Emma, 12, and Kennedie, 10. The blended families hit it off right away, with Jake's skills as a girl dad making Cadence, Carah and Carlee immediately warm to him. Jake also encouraged Challis to follow dreams she had not been able to follow as a busy single mom, and in January 2025, opened her own dance studio near her new home. These growing connections saw Challis and Jake get engaged and plan a wedding for July 20, ahead of which Cadence asked if she could give a speech. Challis encouraged the teenager to include her younger siblings, too, and approved the request as long as Cadence ran the speech past her maid of honor first. On the day itself, at Thousand Hills State Park Shelter, Cadence stood up during the reception and spoke about her past and the happiness at Jake coming into her and her siblings' lives – a moment that caught Challis by surprise, as she said her daughter never usually likes to talk about such emotions. Then, joined by Carah and Carlee, Cadence and her two siblings asked Jake if he would adopt them, in a moment that immediately brought the 33-year-old stepdad to tears of happiness.

00:00This groom already said yes once on his wedding day.
00:04And so I wanted to ask you if we're going to be money.
00:06But he had no idea a second life-changing moment was unfolding.
00:11Jake met Chalice two years ago on TikTok.
00:14They quickly formed a special bond, and before long,
00:18Chalice and her three daughters, Cadence, Kara, and Carly,
00:23moved 15 hours from Texas to Missouri
00:25to be with him and his two daughters, Emma and Kennedy.
00:29The girls quickly hit it off,
00:32and Jake's natural girl-dad skills
00:34made him a true father figure to his new stepdaughters.
00:38I've always had daughters,
00:39and I was a single dad for years before I even met Chalice.
00:43It was just adding a little bit extra,
00:46and it wasn't nothing I wasn't willing to embrace.
00:49He even encouraged Chalice to open her own dance studio,
00:53a dream she put on hold while raising her kids as a single mom.
00:57I've been dancing all my life.
00:59And he's like, well, you can do it.
01:01Like, this is what you need to do.
01:02This town needs it.
01:04And here we are.
01:05And he literally gave me my dreams.
01:07After they started wedding planning,
01:09Chalice's oldest daughter, Cadence,
01:11asked if she could give a speech with her sisters.
01:13So, on the big day,
01:17she stood up to speak and began telling the story of her family's past.
01:21Today isn't just about my mom and taking a marriage.
01:24It's about families coming together,
01:26and I feel so lucky to be a part of it.
01:27I kept my heart up.
01:28I didn't know if I could trust another male again.
01:32I didn't know it was safe to let another man into my heart.
01:34Letting you in was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
01:37You didn't push your way in.
01:38You showed up quiet and consistently,
01:40and always treated me like I was yours in the beginning.
01:43Not because you had to, but because you chose me.
01:45And I can never put into words on how much that is.
01:48You taught me what a real name is.
01:49Watching you has changed my entire idea of love completely.
01:54It's completely raised the bottom of me.
01:56You've already changed my life,
01:58and you've changed how I see,
01:59how I love, how I see my family, and how I see myself.
02:02And I guess there's just one more thing,
02:03and I just want my sisters to come up here
02:05because we have a very important question to ask you.
02:09Then they looked at Jake and spoke words that caught him
02:12and their mom completely by surprise.
02:17And so I wanted to ask you in front of everybody,
02:20will you not be like this?
02:22Oh, my God.
02:29It's always something I wanted to do,
02:31but I wasn't going to put that thought in their head.
02:35Like, I wanted that to be something
02:36they came to the conclusion on their own
02:38versus me saying something,
02:40and then that actually be, like, materializing,
02:44just, I couldn't, I just was bawling like a baby.
02:49For Chalice, seeing Jake's emotional reaction
02:52solidified her decision to move her family so far away.
02:56When I look back at the video
02:58and I was able to, like, see that immediate reaction from him,
03:01it just gave me that extra layer of knowing
03:05that I've made the right decision.
03:07The girls haven't had a stable father figure for years,
03:11and now they've found the one.
03:13They want to take his last name.
03:15My youngest broke Carly Tallman in her backpack for school.
03:18I think that's just the biggest thing for them is,
03:21like, they want their dad's last name.
03:23Like, they want all of our family to have the same last name.
03:26That is their goal.
03:27The couple is now working on making the adoptions official
03:30and hope their story of finding love and family
03:33encourages others to never give up.
03:36Yeah, we've seen a lot of, like, women comment, like,
03:39oh, I hope to one day have this.
03:41I hope my kids one day can experience this.
03:43And I try to, like, reply to those
03:45because I really, I really know, like,
03:47I felt hopeless at a time, too.
03:48And now I'm living my dreams.
