00:01Under the lights at the Tokyo World Championships,
00:04Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis races down the track and pushes off.
00:09He flies over the bar, teetering 6.30 metres in the air,
00:13setting his 14th world record.
00:21I mean, I think for sure it's way more special.
00:24It's night and day.
00:25I don't think it's really even comparable to break a world record
00:28in a championship meet and then not in it.
00:31It's like, yeah, it's not really comparable, I would say.
00:34So this is like very much extra special for me and everybody, I would say.
00:39And, of course, it's going to make the biggest splash.
00:43During the final, his competition was left gazing up in awe.
00:49Silver medalist Emmanuel Corrales managed to clear 6 metres.
00:54But Duplantis secured the gold with room to spare.
00:58He then decided to try for the record.
01:03Duplantis has dominated the sport since he set his first world record in 2020.
01:08Over the past five years, he has continued to push the limits of pole vaulting,
01:13raising the bar by one centimetre each time.
