Meet the teams: Keegan Bradley's crew versus Luke Donald's dozen, starring Scheffler, McIlroy and more.
Transcript
00:00That's what makes the Ryder Cup so special, is that it does sort of transcend golf a little bit.
00:09It's us versus them, red versus blue, it's classic sporting clash.
00:19He was asked to do a job to captain the team, so how he made the decision to not play is what he felt was the best route forward.
00:28I can only imagine how hard that decision was because he has played some great golf over the last few years for sure.
00:35If you do pick yourself, there's a lot of scrutiny on that decision too.
00:39But yeah, I guess he's willing to sacrifice himself to be the ultimate kind of inspirer.
00:47Our studs need to step up, Scotty Scheffler needs to step up, Xander needs to step up, JT needs to step up.
01:00Patrick Cantley, he needs to play what he normally does.
01:02If those four guys play to their ability and collect points, it's going to be a very difficult Ryder Cup for the European side.
01:10Team culture is really important. How do these guys understand what representing the flag of the Ryder Cup really means?
01:21It's two years since Rome. I'm so excited about the continuity and having a team that is very similar to Rome.
01:36I think that's a massive benefit for us.
01:38You could make an argument that the 12 guys that we have going to New York are more accomplished golfers than they were two years ago when most of us were in Rome.
01:55Bethpage is a beautiful venue.
02:01We've had plenty of events at Bethpage.
02:04US Opens, PGA Championships, FedEx Cup events.
02:08So there's enough data there to understand what the course requires.
02:12History would tell you it's very difficult.
02:13You're not just playing 12 American golfers. You're also trying to get past the crowd.
02:31In a way, you feel a little bit less pressure. The home team is meant to win.
02:34So I don't mind that. As long as you're prepared for getting a little bit of stick from the fans, I think that's okay.
02:46It's not nice out there when you're being targeted, but again, like you say, it gives you that inner grit.
