00:00There was overwhelming support for a two-state solution at the United Nations General Assembly.
00:09142 member states said yes to the New York Declaration.
00:12This non-binding resolution calls for the Palestinian Authority to govern and control all Palestinian territory.
00:19It proposes an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, release of all hostages,
00:23and the establishment of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state.
00:26I want to thank the overwhelming majority of nations that voted for the endorsement of this declaration
00:36and the yearning of almost everyone, the international community, to open the door for the option of peace.
00:48The declaration was also one of the strongest criticisms of Hamas by the UN.
00:53It said that the militant group must not only end its rule in Gaza,
00:57but it condemns the attacks committed by Hamas against civilians.
01:01Israel and key ally the United States were among the ten countries that opposed the resolution.
01:05The U.S. called the resolution a misguided and ill-timed publicity stunt.
01:17The vote comes days before a UN meeting of world leaders, where it's expected some Western countries, including France,
01:37will declare the recognition of a Palestinian state.
01:41But the presence of the Palestinian Authority at this meeting will be severely curtailed.
01:45The White House has already refused to grant a visa to its president, Mahmoud Abbas,
01:50and 80 other Palestinian officials.
