A SpiceJet aircraft, flying from Gujarat’s Kandla to Mumbai, executed a safe emergency landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji airport after its outer wheel fell off during take-off.
00:00All right, news updates coming in where a Spicejet plane, the wheels have fallen off post take-off.
00:12This is the full emergency that has been declared at the Mumbai airport right now.
00:16The aircraft continued journey and now has landed in Mumbai.
00:21Spicejet aircraft has made an emergency landing in Mumbai.
00:25This happened at about 15.51 hours today.
00:27All passengers, just to remind you at the moment, are safe.
00:31That is the confirmation entry that has come from Spicejet.
00:35It has also now said that the plane has landed safely at the Mumbai airport.
00:45All right, my colleague Devesh Singh from Mumbai joins us for more on this.
00:49Devesh, tell us more about this aircraft.
00:51Where was it going and what exactly happened there?
00:54Well, this aircraft, this is a Spicejet Q400 aircraft, which was coming from Kandla airport to Mumbai airport.
01:03And why after it left Kandla airport, the outer wheel of the aircraft was found on the runway.
01:09But despite that, the flight continued its journey towards Mumbai, and the pilots who were operating this aircraft informed the air traffic control about the outer wheel,
01:26which was left off at, which came out at the outer runway at the Kandla airport.
01:32And which was informed to the air traffic control in Mumbai, and all safety precautions were taken.
01:38They were put in place by the Mumbai airport officials, after which the landing did happen.
01:46The landing of the Spicejet Q400 aircraft happened in Mumbai.
01:51After that, the plane was taken to the terminal, the outer wheel was not there, but also what we see from the pictures and the video that the another wheel which was clear in the aircraft then, it also burst.
02:02But the aircraft safely landed.
02:05There were around 64 passengers in the flight then.
02:09They were all safe.
02:11No one is injured, no one is injured, no injury at all, and after the landing, the plane was taken to the terminal from the Range, and the plane went on its own power towards the terminal.
02:26So that is what we've learned from the Spicejet spokesperson also, and Mumbai airport officials, who confirmed that this emergency landing did happen.
02:37But all the passengers are safe, other than the lift off wheel and the damage to the wheel of the Spicejet Q400 aircraft.
02:47So kudos to the pilots who actually handled the situation so well, and I've ensured that there has been no injury on board as well.
02:54Thank you so much, Devesh, for joining us with the very latest.
03:01Alright, so that was the Spicejet aircraft that while taking off, one of the wheels actually fell off, but it managed to make its way all the way to Mumbai and even land without any problem.
03:14At the moment, it's being under surveillance, it's being looked into.
03:18The good news at the moment is that none of the passengers' life have been harmed, nobody's injured.
03:23Like I said, it's quite a marvellous landing there then by the pilot and the co-pilot to have gotten out of the situation without any damage.
03:35Alright, like Devesh was telling us, those are the pictures of that Spicejet aircraft which lost a wheel, then landed there in Mumbai.
03:50Those pictures are just coming in.
03:52It's now being looked into, but the passengers are set to be safe.
03:58The Mumbai airport at the moment is in full emergency landing mode.
04:03They aided the landing and now despite a wheel, the aircraft is finally on ground with people inside safe and sound.
04:13Amit Bharajwa joins us for more on this.
04:17Amit, what more details do you have for how many passengers were on board and importantly, where did it take off from?
04:24Were the checks not done in time?
04:25Well, Sonal, what we know at this point in time is that this was Spicejet, Kandla, Mumbai airport.
04:35So, the flight had taken off from Guzraat, Kandla airport and was supposed to land in Mumbai.
04:41But it was only after the takeoff that the airport authorities in Kandla alerted Spicejet that they have found the outer wheel of the craft on the runway itself.
04:54Now, that triggered immediate emergency SOPs that need to be put into place and it was eventually, immediately put into place rather.
05:04And the pilot sought emergency landing at the Mumbai airport.
05:09This is Chhattrapati Sabaji, Mumbai airport that we are talking about.
05:13And, you know, these Mumbai airport authorities, what we are given to understand right now, had to declare emergency on the airport.
05:22A full emergency was declared as a precaution because you have a flight which is landing on the airport without one of its outer wheel.
05:30And certainly, we can say that this landing wouldn't have been a pleasant one for the flyer and the food itself.
05:40Thanks, Amit, for joining us with the very latest over there.
05:44Good news that nobody is injured, everybody is safe and sound despite the aircraft actually landing without a wheel.
