00:01:00And obviously nothing insignificance happened in MagSportball.

00:01:03If I remember correctly, the last podcast we did was the Canadians, do you remember,

00:01:08which were the cult heroes on the Barclaysmen, which I actually listened to the other day.

00:01:14It was quite a good podcast.

00:01:16Davey went on holiday.

00:01:17And that just killed him.

00:01:18That actually killed the podcast.

00:01:21Where did you go, Dave?

00:01:21I went to Liverpool and the York game.

00:01:23In fact, that Liverpool-V West Ham game at the Cup was one of the linesmen was Paul Honskinson,

00:01:28our ex-RDM over here.

00:01:30So it was a working holiday, of course.

00:01:32So just to think, if you had to go on holiday, we could have been piercing ears for years to years.

00:01:36We wouldn't be getting barred comments from Jerry, Big G Julie down at Cerberi's, hello, I've been listening to you.

00:01:44I hope he is.

00:01:45They're saying, I can't quote it because it was quite rude, but he said it has, just to paraphrase,

00:01:49it's been a bit of shambles the last season.

00:01:51And agree.

00:01:52Well, so this year we're back.

00:04:14There's lots happened in our absence, you know, it has been 12 months.

00:04:18But the last few weeks in itself have been busy.

00:04:21The new season sprang into life a couple of weeks ago, Dave.

00:04:24It has.

00:04:25Plenty of drama already.

00:04:26Some big results.

00:04:27Plenty of goals.

00:04:28So I think it's shaken up to be a nice little season.

00:04:31Except if you're a Marriott-Han fan.

00:04:33I'm confident.

00:04:36You're almost confident.

00:04:38We won the league last year, if I were there for my predictions.

00:04:40We'll look ahead to what's happening this weekend in a few minutes.

00:04:44But before that, I just want to have a quick chat about FCL Man.

00:04:47Now, it's not been the greatest start to the season, Dave, has it?

00:04:49No, it hasn't.

00:04:50But, you know, there are caveats to that.

00:04:52They've lost a lot of their big players, so to speak, in the off-season.

00:04:56There's a lot of youngsters.

00:04:58So it's very much building for the future of the moment, isn't it?

00:05:00The probably, the headlines are the bottom of the league.

00:05:02Yes.

00:05:03Won one game.

00:05:04Lost eight.

00:05:05Lost eight.

00:05:05Drawn the other.

00:05:06One of those defeats was against Cheadletown on Tuesday, just gone.

00:05:11There's a fantastic interview, a former podcast favourite, Sam Turton did,

00:05:15with Sam Baines and Dean Pennington after the game.

00:05:19We're going to hope, we'll link into that a bit later.

00:05:22But, yes, I think the main point of the interviews you'll hear in a minute

00:05:27is that they're just saying they want the Allemans to get behind.

00:05:29They need the fans support.

00:05:31So we'll have a quick listen to that now.

00:05:33Lads, a difficult result tonight, but much improved performance in the second half.

00:05:42The second half was much better, but I was after a few words and change.

00:05:47All the lads know it wasn't.

00:05:48The first half was nowhere near good enough, just like the last few weeks

00:05:50haven't been good enough.

00:05:51I'm sure everyone at home knows that as well.

00:05:54But I think in the second half, we actually finally got together as a team

00:05:57and fought for each other for the first time in a while.

00:05:59It's a new group and everything like that.

00:06:01And I just think everyone outside of FCE, inside of FCE, we just need to start,

00:06:06we need to stick together, management included.

00:06:09Everyone's wanting to point the finger, this, that and the other.

00:06:12On my behalf, I'll take responsibility for not winning and not scoring goals.

00:06:16I'm not scoring enough and not getting enough assists.

00:06:18That's my responsibility.

00:06:19I'm sure Baines, he'll have his own.

00:06:21All the players have put 100% commitment into this.

00:06:24And the negativity, things like that, for me personally, it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

00:06:28I don't care.

00:06:29And to be honest, it riles me up.

00:06:30I sort of like it.

00:06:32But I just think everyone should get behind us because we're representing the Isle of Man.

00:06:36So everyone should be getting behind us and we want to go and win.

00:06:39We want to get three points for Hughes and for us.

00:06:41That's just all I have to say about the whole thing, to be honest.

00:06:44Yeah, I agree.

00:06:44First half was nowhere near good enough.

00:06:46Slappy goals like last week.

00:06:47But then second half, as Penny said, we did fight well.

00:06:50And as a group, which was what we need to do more of.

00:06:52And I think as a club and as an island and a community, we need to fight more of.

00:06:57There needs to be more positivity about it because we're putting in so much time and commitment.

00:07:01Everyone in the club, there's so many volunteers.

00:07:03And you've got to remember, none of us are getting pinched.

00:07:05We're all trying.

00:07:06And you just need to get behind us.

00:07:08We're trying our best.

00:07:09On Saturday, we'll be at home, get down to the game and we'll try and get you the win.

00:07:13We are trying and we're together as a group.

00:07:15Management team, staff, volunteers, everything.

00:07:18We're together as a group.

00:07:26You can see just how much it means to the players, can't you, in that.

00:07:29And I think they're totally right.

00:07:31They just need support at this point.

00:07:32It's easy to point thinkers.

00:07:34But, you know, just get behind the team.

00:07:36There has been a lot of finger pointing in as well, I've noticed.

00:07:39Yeah, it's quite toxic, isn't it?

00:07:40It has, which is, yeah, I'm a bit shocked by that.

00:07:43And I think Sam mentioned in the interview, one of the keys, like, they're all doing this for free.

00:07:47Yeah, exactly.

00:07:48Taking a lot of time out of their own calendars to train and travel.

00:07:52But, yeah, I think, again, as I say, they just want everyone to get behind them.

00:07:56And you can do on Saturday evening.

00:07:58They're at home to everyone's favourite service station, Sean and Richard, at the bowl on Saturday evening.

00:08:04That's a six o'clock kickoff, as always.

00:08:06I'm sure they would definitely appreciate the support.

00:08:24We've also, aside from the FC Allermann, lads, we've been keeping a beady eye on some of the island's footballers on the adjacent aisles.

00:08:30And we'll kick off with Dave with podcast favourite.

00:08:33One of the early ones, wasn't he, I think?

00:08:35Was he season two?

00:08:36Yes, I believe so.

00:08:37One of the greatest hits, Adam Long, a Rolls-Royce of a defender for Union Mills in St George's.

00:08:41He signed for Coleraine in the North...

00:08:44Northern Irish at Coleraine in the close season.

00:08:47Made his debut recently.

00:08:48Could have gone...

00:08:48Yeah, couldn't have gone much better, really, could it?

00:08:50He was only on the pitch for about a minute, and he scored.

00:08:52Yep.

00:08:54And they're having a great start to the season.

00:08:55They're undefeated, and they're currently second in the Sports Direct Premiership standings.

00:09:00That's a catchy name.

00:09:01If my information is correct.

00:09:03Also among the goals of the weekend, Tom, is a guy you spoke to in one of our short-lived episodes last season.

00:09:11Freddie O'Donoghue, former Peel superstar.

00:09:14Yeah, he's doing well, isn't he?

00:09:15Yeah.

00:09:15So he is currently enjoying, very much so, a loan spell Queen of the South, one of the best-named football clubs in Britain, I would say.

00:09:22Freddie O'Donoghue from parent club Carly United.

00:09:24He was on the score sheet on Saturday as the Dunehamers, apologise to any Queen's fans that are listening,

00:09:31beat Rangers second string in the Challenge Cup on Saturday.

00:09:35Yeah.

00:09:36But he's currently at Carlyle still, am I right?

00:09:38Yes, you did.

00:09:39You signed in your deal, didn't you?

00:09:40Of course, I did a story on that.

00:09:41But then when I, one of the things that started for me when we spoke to Freddie was how much it meant to him,

00:09:46like how Peel football club, how influential that was to get where he is now.

00:09:50Yeah.

00:09:51I think like so many players you see, especially from Make It, they get so far and they praise the ones when they get to these serious clubs

00:09:58where I think Freddie rattled off a fair few names of people just involved in Peel that have been like essential to him getting where he is,

00:10:04which I think is really good as well.

00:10:05It's a massive praise on the other man that in general, I think, would have something like that.

00:10:08I think I looked at the end of the day, I think he played five first team games and scored two before he signed for Carlyle.

00:10:13So he's not, not bad.

00:10:14Good return to that.

00:10:15Yeah, exactly.

00:10:16Anyway, thanks to the media team at Queen and South, we've got an interview now with Craigie.

00:10:23Here's what he has to say after he scored the 76th minute winner on Saturday.

00:10:31Freddie, what's your thoughts after the game today?

00:10:34We probably made it a bit too tough for ourselves, but ultimately,

00:10:38like we won, so yeah, mixed emotions really.

00:10:42It was a bit of a strange game, wasn't it?

00:10:44It kind of had that friendly feel about it.

00:10:47Yeah, it's one of them where, you know, you need to approach every game the same,

00:10:51whether it's cup, league, but yeah, probably on our part,

00:10:55we started a bit slow and, you know, maybe got dragged into that mentality.

00:11:00Was there a difference in that?

00:11:01Did you feel as a player, obviously you were on the bench to start with,

00:11:04but in the first half that there was a different mentality from a league game?

00:11:09I don't know.

00:11:10It's tough to say watching from the bench when you're not really on the pitch, you know.

00:11:14But yeah, it's just, it's tough to say.

00:11:17Like I said, you know, we should approach every game the same way.

00:11:21I think that's what the gaffer told us before the game and yeah, that's just my heart forward to it at least.

00:11:29Was there a game, was there a difference then in, like, when you learn from these kind of games?

00:11:34Because Rangers be unknown to anybody really, so do you learn from it?

00:11:39Yeah, of course, you learn from every game you play really, but yeah, like you say,

00:11:43they were unknown and, like I said before, it's important to approach it the same way

00:11:50as you approach, you know, a team that you've played five times and you know exactly what they're about.

00:11:55Obviously, you came off the bench at half-time and things changed in that second half

00:12:00and you played your part with a goal.

00:12:02Yeah, obviously as a forward, you want to get off the mark as quickly as possible.

00:12:08I've had my time to settle in now, so hopefully that's the first of many.

00:12:11How are you finding it?

00:12:13Good, yeah, I enjoy it.

00:12:14All the players have been brilliant with me since I've come in, the gaffer and the staff,

00:12:18they've all been excellent, to be fair, so yeah, it helped me settle in

00:12:23and now I think it's just time for me to personally try and kick on as much as I can.

00:12:27Try and get as much game time.

00:12:28Yeah, that's it, that's the whole point of the loan, you know,

00:12:30try and turn me under a different league and, you know, men's football,

00:12:34so it's quite new to me as well, so I'm starting to settle, I think,

00:12:38and yeah, hopefully just get as much as possible.

00:12:40Obviously, you're talking there about men's football,

00:12:42so that probably is a different level from what you're used to at current.

00:12:46Yeah, like, Carl, I've been in the round like the first team and, you know, I've played a bit,

00:12:51but, you know, you want to be every week in training with a team, you know,

00:12:57you know what, you're all aiming for the same thing,

00:13:00and then on a Saturday or Tuesday, you know, you're playing against men and, you know,

00:13:04you're playing for three points and it ultimately means more.

00:13:07Top of the league going into the next league game against these five,

00:13:10so somewhere that you aim to stay.

00:13:13Yeah, of course, all the lads, we know what we want to achieve this year

00:13:16and staying up there is, you know, obviously the most important part for us,

00:13:20so hopefully, yeah, three points.

00:13:21Did you know much about Scottish football before you came?

00:13:24Yeah, I knew a bit, I spent a bit of time at Dundee as a kid,

00:13:28so I sort of, I knew faces and I sort of knew what it was about,

00:13:33but like I said, I'm really enjoying it.

00:13:35Right, it wouldn't be the Manx football podcast without some Manx football lads,

00:13:45and I'm delighted to say our first look at the games taking place this weekend on Saturday.

00:13:51Now, there's an absolutely mahoosive game in the Camelife Premier League on Saturday

00:13:57taking place at Douglas Road, where current champions, Peele,

00:14:01take on everyone's probably title favourites, Corinthians.

00:14:03Dave, this one should be an absolute beaut.

00:14:08It should be, I mean, Corinthians are absolutely fly.

00:14:11I mean, they've obviously welcomed back some FC Almanster,

00:14:14they've got Sean Doyle, Luke Murray, Dan Simpson,

00:14:16and they really have hit the ground running.

00:14:18Goals galore.

00:14:20One of the goals against Foxtail, that goal has been circulating on the line,

00:14:23I think, did Corinthians post it up from foot?

00:14:24Yeah, yeah, I think, yeah.

00:14:26But it was just, the way they played, like, I know Foxtail have had a tough time,

00:14:30but they've had a really tough start of the season,

00:14:31but just, I think, generally, if you play like that every week...

00:14:35One touch football, that's from their own area.

00:14:37I think if you showed someone that, and told them it was Manchester football,

00:14:40they wouldn't believe you.

00:14:40Yeah.

00:14:41That's what that goal was, though.

00:14:42But yeah, check it out, it's a cracking goal.

00:14:45Yeah.

00:14:45Yeah, it's, well, not to coin a hattie phrase,

00:14:49but it is one of the goal of the season contenders already.

00:14:51So, yeah, fantastic form for Corinthians.

00:14:54Peel, they've not had the best of starts this season,

00:14:57but they've also had a tougher start this season than Corinthians.

00:15:00And they lost in the old-firm derby to Russian last week,

00:15:03so they'll be keen to bounce back from that, get back to winning ways.

00:15:07Can I go as far as to say that I think it's a must-win for Peel?

00:15:09Oof!

00:15:10I genuinely think...

00:15:11You rigged the must-win?

00:15:12Is that melody rigged?

00:15:13Well, I didn't remember, and I haven't got a fair bit of flack for it,

00:15:16so I don't want to...

00:15:17It's a big declare laxie champion.

00:15:19Thank God, they didn't win it.

00:15:23But Peel, I think, if they lose into Russian last week,

00:15:27which I think was the shock result,

00:15:28they've got a point against air as well,

00:15:31which are games that, I think at the start of the season,

00:15:33everyone had their favourites,

00:15:34and it was between Peel and Corinthians who didn't sign up on in.

00:15:37I personally don't think air would be up there,

00:15:40or as close up there, or as tight as it would be.

00:15:43And I think Peel, if they were to lose this game,

00:15:45which is very realistic because Corinthians are flying,

00:15:47and I think it's a long way back to get...

00:15:49Because I can't see Corinthians dropping many points.

00:15:51I can't see air dropping many points.

00:15:52I can't see Russian dropping many points.

00:15:54Are you saying it's harking back to the old days where,

00:15:56we say when Geordi's were winning,

00:15:57you couldn't really afford any defence?

00:15:59Yes, that's what I generally think you could go.

00:16:00With this Corinthians team, with the amount of...

00:16:02Like, it's not just the 11 they've got on the pitch,

00:16:04Corinthians, that scare me.

00:16:05I think they can probably rotate every week

00:16:08and have players, you know...

00:16:10They've got a strong combi size.

00:16:12It's like, that club seems to just find these kids

00:16:15that are immediately going to have to play in the system,

00:16:18and that, in fairness, is credit to the coaching staff.

00:16:23Am I right in saying that the combi play the exact same way

00:16:25as the first team, and some of the youth do as well?

00:16:27I believe so.

00:16:27They try and play that all the way up,

00:16:29which, in fairness, if that works,

00:16:31which it clearly is for Corinthians,

00:16:33but, yeah, fair play.

00:16:35As you both know, I love stats.

00:16:37Yep.

00:16:38And me and Dave, you might have noticed

00:16:40we've gone a bit pro this year.

00:17:02and scored 24 goals.

00:17:07you're a centre-half,

00:17:08and you're looking at that front three,

00:17:09front four,

00:17:10it could be even a front five.

00:17:11I feel like that attacking options they've got,

00:17:13you wouldn't want to mark any of them.

00:17:16as Dave earlier in the episode said,

00:17:21they've got the band back together,
