00:00Hello and welcome to this national Janesweather update for Friday.
00:04The big rain system that crossed New South Wales is now well out to sea.
00:08In fact, it's over New Zealand, so there's no more from that.
00:11In fact, we've got light winds back and a fair bit of sunshine.
00:14There's just a little bit more disturbers to happen for the southeast.
00:17There's nothing heavy in that.
00:19The next weather system is approaching the southwest.
00:21We will get a bit of activity in the next week across these northeastern parts of Queensland
00:25and some parts of the coast, but not seeing that yet.
00:28Here it is building up in the north.
00:30Okay, so let's have a look at day by day what to expect here.
00:33So there is that building.
00:34Over here, we're not seeing anything yet, but that will expand as the days go on.
00:38We're just getting a little bit of coastal activity in through here.
00:41Not seeing that southwestern system yet and just the remains of a weak disturbance
00:45that is crossing the southeast.
00:47Weak, you'll notice the showers as they come past if you're anywhere between Adelaide
00:50and about Tarragon there and the west coast of Tasmania, but it doesn't add up to very much.
00:55But that's today.
00:56High pressure system is there by Friday night.
00:58Let's watch where that is moving.
01:00It's going to Saturday.
01:01Here it is over the central parts of New South Wales.
01:03What that does is winds travel in this direction around the high pressure system.
01:07So that is now onshore winds for the east coast.
01:10Onshore winds mean moisture.
01:12That runs into instability, which is this trough line that's running down in through here,
01:16and that produces wet weather.
01:17Now, with the high being here over northern New South Wales, with most of the wet weather,
01:22in particular the inland part of that, is in the far north, whereas we've got a little
01:27bit of coastal activity in through here.
01:29Let's move over to the other side of the country.
01:30Here's the next weather system that is crossing the southwest.
01:33The cold air is still well back off the coast by the end of Saturday night.
01:37Into Sunday, that cold air is certainly there by the end of Sunday.
01:41Here's the next system that's coming through up to here by the end of Sunday.
01:45So that's where the majority of the wet weather is.
01:47It is a little bit windy in the southeast, but we're warm.
01:51You can see these grey lines here.
01:54So you've got the coloured cold area here.
01:56You've got the warm area there.
01:57That is pushing down from the north, whereas this is pushing up from the south.
02:01It gives us an idea of how warm or cool the atmosphere is.
02:04Also shows up.
02:05So you can see how they're going like this in through here.
02:08That's adding to that instability that will continue that wet weather along the coast.
02:12OK, so by the end of Sunday, this is over here.
02:15We've got warmer winds in the southeast.
02:17Those warmer winds continue in the southeast and into New South Wales and into Queensland
02:21ahead of this system that is coming through.
02:24Continuing to see that wet weather up through there.
02:26Nothing really along the coast further south.
02:28Over the Bight, here is that cold air.
02:31Here is the rain band associated with this one.
02:33Sort of easing in the southwest.
02:35Into Tuesday, that's when that moves across the southeast there.
02:38Cold front up past Sydney by the end of Tuesday.
02:41So we'll start to feel that with this cold air in behind it while the southwest takes
02:45a break.
02:46Where is the high pressure?
02:47Here by the end of Tuesday.
02:49Still, we've got the pattern of this in the upper level atmosphere here.
02:53So we still get all of that wet weather coming onto the coast there, but not in the southeast
02:57of Queensland.
02:58There we are by the end of Tuesday.
03:00By Wednesday, next high pressure system is in over through here.
03:03Still seeing that.
03:04Next weather system in the southwest.
03:06That's the middle of next week.
03:08Let's watch that one track across.
03:09As we go through Thursday, the cold front is up to here.
03:12By Friday, the cold front past Sydney, heading in up through here.
03:16So we've got all of this wet weather in behind that.
03:19And the cold air that comes up with that one too.
03:21So by next Saturday, that might make it up into these areas here.
03:25All right.
03:25So how is that going to add up?
03:27It's going to add up or nothing like what we saw last week.
03:30That was a big cut off low pressure system that was crossing New South Wales.
03:34Here in the southeast, that's actually one of the wetter spots.
03:36And in the south, worth 25 to 50 millimeters.
03:38Here we could get some locally big falls just south of Cairns around that area there
03:43because it's day after day of wet weather.
03:45Up on the ranges here, 25 to 50, not much of that being cold air.
03:49So not a lot of that being snow.
03:51Otherwise, it is the usual pattern of something coming in from the west
03:54where it affects these areas here on the western coast of Tasmania.
03:57As always, head to File Online Weather for the latest.
03:59I'll see you next time.
