00:01Get down!
00:02Those in the bag!
00:03Now, get them all!
00:04When I was first pitched the idea for Black Rabbit,
00:06I was curious and hooked by the very interesting world.
00:09You understand what this all means, right?
00:11It's on me.
00:12We're not trying to teach us any lessons
00:14or create some sort of cautionary tale here,
00:16but it's so unsettlingly realistic.
00:21Zach and Kate are brilliant storytellers.
00:24What do you hear?
00:26You?
00:27They have a great curiosity for different types of people
00:30in different types of situations.
00:32Zach and I started thinking about a TV show
00:35that we might want to make together.
00:37We loved the work that Jason had done on Ozark.
00:42There was a familiarity that we wanted to recreate in Black Rabbit.
00:45Kate and Zach wrote really smart scripts.
00:47All night, super messy.
00:49This is messy.
00:50As a director, he sees shots and storytelling
00:53in a way that I just have never been able to do.
00:56It is the kind of thing that I really love to do directorially.
01:00You know, it's kind of, you know, moody and dangerous.
01:04Sort of the thing I did on Ozark.
01:06I put in the grind.
01:07Oh, boy.
01:08Yeah, I made it a business.
01:09That was me, not you.
01:10Because you're so professional.
01:11You know, it's Jude Law, and I'm just an enormous fan of him.
01:15He's open to being directed, but he doesn't need any direction.
01:18Stop moving!
01:20There's no way you can afford this.
01:22I already got the money lined up.
01:23When you meet Jake, he has sort of turned his life around.
01:27He has taken the reins of the place and made himself a success.
01:31I can give you four grand.
01:33It's worth 15.
01:34Or so it seems.
01:35Jake is able to keep so many plates spinning, and he seems pretty unflappable, even though
01:40a lot of stuff is being thrown his way.
01:43I'm holding on by the skin of my teeth.
01:45I didn't budget for you.
01:48You know, on the page, Vince is volatile.
01:51Stupid mother.
01:52Unpredictable.
01:53He's troubled.
01:54What happened to your shoes, Vince?
01:56Oh, yes.
01:57He's a problem, but he's super lovable because he's just not that bright.
02:03We both have siblings and we're interested in exploring the idea that you're kind of one
02:09person with your sibling and someone else in the world.
02:12Everybody can relate to that.
02:13Everybody's either got a sibling or has a friendship where you love being with one another, but it's
02:19kind of dangerous.
02:21They drag each other into all sorts of volatile situations, but ultimately, they have each
02:26other's back.
02:33Some of the locations for this, I'm like, how are we filming here?
02:36How are we filming under the Brooklyn Bridge?
02:39We wanted, you know, New York to be a character in the show, and we really wanted to feel that
02:43like we had dropped the audience into kind of a New York experience.
02:47It's a city that keeps evolving, and yet it sits very firmly on its roots.
02:52An exhaustive, but inspiring kind of energy that you need to just embrace as a film crew.
02:59You can't really recreate it.
03:00It made us look really bad.
03:02And we got a rep to protect, don't we, Rod?
03:04It's got all of the tasty, exciting criminal elements, like real bad guys.
03:14It's dangerous.
03:16Each episode, you're like...
03:17At the heart is a great love and a great sense of loyalty.
03:23It's a little heartbreaking.
03:25At the same time, it's kind of exciting.
03:27It's absolutely at the top of the game.
03:30Take a loan on the house, bet it again, lost it all.
03:33Sound right?
03:34Yeah, you're all caught up.
03:36This is the kind of party Black Rabbit was built for.
03:41Yeah!
03:42Yeah!
