Toll rises to 3 dead and 70 injured in gas truck explosion in Mexico City

The death toll from a gas tanker explosion on a highway in Mexico City rose to three, with 70 people injured, Mexico City government head Clara Brugada said on Wednesday, September 10.

Brugada told reporters at a press conference that the injured had been transported to various hospitals and that authorities had contained the risk in the area. At least 28 vehicles sustained damage in the incident, she added.

The explosion occurred when a gas truck overturned and ignited on a highway near the border between the Iztapalapa municipality and Chalco, at the edge of Mexico State, city authorities said.
