Doncaster Free Press Daily Bulletin with Stephanie Bateman - Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Transcript
00:00Good morning, it's Steph at the Doncaster Free Press and it's Thursday, September the 11th,
00:04bringing you some of our top headlines this morning.
00:07First of all, today marks the start of the St. Ledger Festival,
00:11one of the highlights of the horse racing calendar and it's based in Doncaster, of course.
00:17This is a four-day event and we're expecting lots and lots of people to attend from Doncaster
00:24and from much further afield.
00:26Today is Ladies' Day, so everyone will be dressed up to their nines.
00:30The police have issued a warning for people just to basically look after themselves,
00:36drink sensibly and also keep an eye on their belongings
00:42and try and make a plan to make sure that they stay all together
00:46and they make their safe way home.
00:49All the details are up on the website this morning.
00:52It's a great event.
00:53If you are going along, I hope you have a fabulous time.
00:56And the weather is kind also.
00:59Then, something I put out yesterday,
01:03following a devastating petrol bomb attack,
01:06Marle Lodge, which had to be closed, has now reopened
01:10following the attack which happened on the 16th of September 2024.
01:16It's completely engulfed the property
01:17with the bar, area, restaurant and car for it all completely ruined.
01:22It's had to be completely rewired.
01:24It's had structural work.
01:26Lots and lots of activity done.
01:28But it's finally opened its doors and welcoming customers back.
01:31So you can read all about that.
01:33There are some new things featured there as well.
01:36So, hopefully, business will return back to normal after quite an unpleasant few months for the owners there.
01:43And then, finally, I just want to keep an eye out.
01:47The Playground Chairs, Doncaster's indie band, are rekindling their love of music and have a new single out.
01:59It is going to be played tonight at 6 o'clock on Sign FM.
02:03So if you haven't had a listen to it on the internet so far, please tune in to them and have a listen.
02:11It's definitely up my street, being an old indie bird as I am.
02:14So good luck to them with the sale of that track.
02:17So for those stories and for anything else, you just need to visit www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk
02:24And, obviously, we'll keep you updated throughout on Facebook and X.
02:29And have a great Thursday.
