HARASS, DENY, NORMALIZE: A WEEK IN THE WPS |   This week’s pattern was clear: two Chinese warships shadowed allied drills near Bajo de Masinloc, twenty militia vessels crowded contested waters, Beijing issued a so-called “safety advisory” painting the Philippines as unsafe, and even warned Manila not to “play with fire” after a trade visit by Taiwan’s foreign minister. None of these are isolated. Together, they form a deliberate playbook of pressure.  The Philippines is not without law or dignity. The 2016 Hague ruling already affirmed our sovereign rights under UNCLOS. Our Navy and Coast Guard continue to stand watch, and our partners train with us to uphold the rules-based order. 00:51and blamed foreign militarization,

00:53harassment at sea, denial in words.

00:56China's safety advisory sounded like concern,

01:06Filipinos saw through it, calling out the bully behind the warning.

01:10When Taiwan's foreign minister visited for trade,

01:13Beijing warned Manila not to play with fire.

01:17The aim, conflate economics with politics and test Philippine resolve.

01:22Put it together in the pattern repeats, harass at sea, deny in narratives,

01:28normalize presence, undermine alliances, and soften the blow with cultural or safety claims.

01:34It is pressure wrapped in reassurance, coercion disguised as stability.

01:40The West Philippine Sea is not just a map debate.

01:43It is food on the table.

01:45It is safe trips home.

01:47It is the inheritance of our children.

01:49When we see the pattern, we don't panic.

01:52We prepare.

01:53We stand with law, with partners who respect it, and with each other.
