00:00Now, there's one other main story today that we're covering, and that is the Polish president has called it, in fact, in the last half hour, an unprecedented moment in NATO history.
00:10This is after Poland, of course, scrambled its own and NATO air defences to shoot down drones after a Russian air attack on western Ukraine,
00:18the first time in the Ukraine war that Warsaw has engaged assets in its airspace.
00:24Volodymyr Zelensky saying it sets a dangerous precedent for Europe, calling for a strong response from allies.
00:30International affairs artist Ketovan Gorjistani is with me here on Tech.
00:33Ketovan, just bring us up to date, first of all, with what the latest situation is.
00:37Well, Donald Tusk was holding that emergency meeting, and during that meeting, he gave a little bit more details about what they believe happened overnight.
00:46So we've now had the prime minister of Poland actually use the words Russian drones, because earlier on in the day,
00:54they were sort of saying these drones were sent during a Russian attack on Ukraine, but now they're going ahead and claiming these are Russian drones.
01:03That said, Donald Tusk also indicated that among the nearly 20 drones that were launched, so we now have a closer, more precise number,
01:14he said they believe that they were coming in from Belarus.
01:19Of course, Belarus is an ally of Russia in the war in Ukraine, so that couldn't make sense.
01:26And he also indicated that it was unclear whether that was intentional.
01:31Belarus has said that they warned Poland about some lost drones heading their way, so the Poles are still treading carefully.
01:41They believe it's coming from Russia, but they haven't determined yet whether this was a mistake, whether this was intentional, or whether it was actually a targeted attack.
01:52And that's why Donald Tusk has called on the invocation of Article 4 of NATO, not Article 5.
02:00Article 5 is an attack on one, is an attack on all, and calls for a strong response from the NATO alliance.
02:07Article 4 calls for consultation over military matters when the territorial integrity of any parties is threatened.
02:18So there is a meeting of the NATO alliance that was long planned way before all of this happened that will likely be discussing this issue.
02:26But when you see the reaction around Europe and also coming from the United States, you see that everyone is taking this extremely seriously, calling it a violation of Polish sovereignty and an unacceptable escalation.
02:41So everyone really getting ready for what could happen, but taking this very seriously, even though for now, even the Poles are not talking about a direct Russian attack on Polish territory.
