00:00have business in front of the UN, as people do during the general high-level segment.
00:06We are engaged with the U.S. authorities on this matter, but obviously that does not preclude
00:14member states themselves from reaching out to the host country. And we have agreements
00:21with host countries for other headquarters duty stations along the same lines.
00:27Thanks, Steph. Given the Secretary General's comments this morning about the attack in
00:34Doha, he said all parties must work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire, not destroying
00:39it. Given that AP and others have reported that this attack happened while they were negotiating
00:45and going over the U.S. ceasefire deal, does the Secretary General see Israel as operating
00:51in good faith to end this war?
00:53Look, we are not a party to the negotiations, so whether or not the negotiations are going
00:58on in good faith, I can't answer. But to the fact that I think when the Secretary General
01:06said parties should work towards a ceasefire and not destroying it, I think he was clearly
01:15referring to what went on today.
01:20Volodymyr.
01:22Thank you, Stefan. As you mentioned this morning, a Russian airstrike with a guided bomb hit a pension
01:30distribution point in Yerovodonetsk region, killing at least 24 civilians. Russia is intensifying
01:39its attacks on civilians. At the same time, Putin rejects any constructive ways to end the war,
01:45each time putting forward grotesque conditions. In this context, does the Secretary General
01:52have any message for Putin?
01:54Look, the message remains remains the same. Let's move seriously towards a ceasefire that would lead to an end to this conflict, and that would lead to a Ukraine that is safe within its internationally recognized border in line with international
02:22international law, in line with relevant U.N. resolutions and something that will bring us a just and sustainable peace.
02:31Pamela Falk, and then Evelyn.
02:33Thank you, Stefan. Back to Qatar. My understanding is that there's at least a dozen U.N. agencies today there in Doha and around the country.
02:49Can you confirm that, and have you heard anything from them?
02:54Yeah, they're all safe and sound, and as of a few hours ago, they were sheltering in place. We're not moving, like I think so, but everybody's safe and sound.
03:03And on contacts, you answered the question of contacts with Doha, but has the Secretary General reached out or had any contact with either the U.S. or Israel?
03:16No. We've had contacts at the local level with the Israeli authorities, but that was focused on the situation in Gaza.
03:24And not, not...
03:25It was focused on Gaza.
03:27Evelyn?
03:28Yes, please.
03:29Thank you, Stef.
03:30Two of the four fellows for the Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists are here today, and I wanted you to recognize Asim from Pakistan and Leticia from Brazil, and she'll be able to address the SG in his mother time.
03:50Well, welcome, both of you. Abdelhamid.
03:57Do you think that the Secretary General will reach out to the Amir of Qatar and express his solidarity?
04:05I'm sure there will be further contacts.
04:09Yes, sir. Welcome. Please.
04:11I'm just curious, just to follow up to one of the previous questions.
04:17You said U.N. is not part of the negotiation team regarding what's going on in Qatar.
04:24Does U.N. want to be part of the negotiation, or if you want, there's any party object to that?
04:32What's your take on this?
04:32Look, we never look to insert ourselves into an existing process.
04:38We are supporting it.
04:39The Secretary General is being kept briefed, and we are being helpful where we can be helpful.
04:46We're obviously involved in this overall situation, given our tremendous humanitarian work that we do in Gaza.
04:56But should the U.N. be part of the negotiation?
05:00Do you think it would be more helpful?
05:02We want to always be as helpful as possible.
05:05In any good offices, what is important and what is vital and what is essential is that both parties, or all parties, in this case, both parties, want the good offices of the U.N.
05:18We've seen different conflicts being resolved throughout the world using different mediation mechanisms.
05:25Some involve the U.N. directly, some don't.
05:27The important thing is to end the conflict.
05:30Okay, any questions online?
05:32No.
05:35Excellent.
05:35Oh, yes.
05:36Oh, yes, please go ahead.
05:37Hi, Steph.
05:39So, the SG calls for a ceasefire today, again, but so far, Israel has attacked almost all of the neighboring countries, especially those who have hosted senior officials of Hamas who are involved in the ceasefire negotiations.
05:55All right, everyone, you are watching Live Now from Fox.
05:58That was just from earlier today, U.N. briefing.
06:02We will take another two-minute break and be back with more on Live Now.
06:05We will take another two-minute break.
06:11Okay.
06:12We will take a hit, to 2-minute break, every感じ of that on Saturday.
06:14Bye-bye.
06:14Bye-bye.
06:16Thanks tokehr.
