00:00Can board throw away personal items that are left in common areas?
00:05I'm board president and the board has made it clear in the rules,
00:08as well as condo docs and IL condo law,
00:13that storage of personal items in common areas is prohibited.
00:18We have an empty basement room that is very tantalising.
00:22In the rules, we've stated that storage is not allowed
00:25without prior permission from the board.
00:27The smallest unit in our building is short of storage space
00:31and the guy's fiancé has recently moved in,
00:35so we've allowed extra storage space
00:37because they've consolidated two households into one
00:41and their unit is the smallest.
00:44However, we worked with them to designate a certain amount of space.
00:49We've allowed others to leave things there as well.
00:52With prior permission, the small unit guy,
00:55not the best way to word it,
00:57but I'm not sure how else to codename him.
01:00And his fiancé continue to leave more and more items in that room.
01:05They now have an inflatable surfboard
01:07and a set of patio furniture,
01:10which they never talk to us about.
01:12If I give them a deadline to remove it
01:14and they don't do it by that date,
01:16can I justify that it's abandoned and throw it away?
01:20We'll see you next time!
01:20Bye!
