00:00Do you know how many people don't know that Lamborghini and Porsche made tractors?
00:03Isn't that so much fun?
00:04You got them out there on the floor next to the Lamborghini, you know, and the cars out there.
00:08And that's just it. You know, there is so much in the car culture world that we all don't know.
00:14Welcome to Sam's Garage, presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
00:30This week on Sam's Garage, we're firing on all cylinders.
00:52First, we bring the Summit Racing Bandit build one step closer to the finish line with a proper stainless exhaust, OEM style.
01:00Then Vicks Mustang gets a transmission update with some clever solutions for a smoother LS swap.
01:06Next, we head to NHOU, where the mission goes beyond metal. It's about innovation, integrity, and protecting what matters.
01:15And finally, we cruise into Georgia's Collector Car Appreciation Day,
01:19capping off a 60-mile ride with 100 classics and a big donation to a great cause.
01:25Let's get started.
01:30This week on the Summit Racing Bandit Project, we ditched the dumped pipes and go full OEM with stainless steel pipes exhaust.
01:47Tailpipes out the back, hangers in the right place, and clearance everywhere it counts.
01:52It's retro looks, modern muscle.
01:54So finally, this week on our Summit Racing Bandit Project, we went ahead and went to Summit Racing,
02:00got us a Pipes exhaust system for a 79 Firebird.
02:03And this car originally had a dumped exhaust, which means right before the axle,
02:08they dumped it right from the mufflers onto the ground, which is old school cool, sounds really good.
02:12But we're going to go original OEM.
02:15We're going to put the tips like they used to be in the rear fenders coming out.
02:18It's going to look perfect.
02:19I got the J-Bends I need to connect them to the Summit Racing Shorty manifolds.
02:23I got all the hangers from Pipes themselves also to make this a seamless installation.
02:28What we got here is going to be a stainless steel, complete Pipes exhaust system.
02:36This kit comes with two options for tailpipes.
02:38One is going to be the traditional style with the tips coming out just like factory right here.
02:43The other one is going to be a solid tip that goes back here,
02:46and then you can put whatever tip you want coming out the rear of the car.
02:49In the kit comes new hangers that's going to replace the factory hangers.
02:53It's going to bolt up right there to the factory location.
02:55Then we have a hanger rod.
02:57We're going to put inside that hanger, weld it to the tip.
03:00That is going to hold and secure the back side of the exhaust system up.
03:13Then on the side right here, we've got one of these hangers.
03:17We cut the top, we trim the rod, and we're going to put this on the top side of the muffler,
03:21giving it stability, and that's another mounting point for the exhaust system.
03:27I've got the clamps on here.
03:36What I like to do is once it's completely installed and I've got these clamps,
03:39I'll go back and do a little tack just so nothing moves
03:41because sometimes these clamps over time will get loose and move.
03:45But if you do a tack, it's going to help them stay in place.
03:48Moving up, we've got the X-pipe going all the way up.
03:50We want to keep it flush to the car as best we can
03:53so that when we come over here to the crossmember,
03:56we make our up pipes go into the Summit Racing manifolds,
03:58everything's going to work in unison and it's not going to rub the car.
04:02Now on the manifold for the passenger side,
04:04these Summit Racing manifolds, they come with V-band clamps.
04:07On the passenger side, the V-band clamp comes a little bit too close.
04:10Just take a little grinder and then they'll fit perfectly.
04:13Then we go ahead and make our pipes,
04:15connect them to the X-pipe right here.
04:17We shouldn't need another mounting point.
04:19Those four would be sufficient.
04:21And then the fact that it's going to be bolted up to the V-band clamps
04:23will do its job up front.
04:25You've got to make sure that when you're completely done,
04:45you want to go back and wipe off all your fingerprints
04:47because this is stainless steel.
04:49It's going to burn into the finish of the exhaust system.
04:51It's going to be for a bad look the rest of the life of the exhaust system.
04:54So don't do that.
05:01All right, so the pipes exhaust is fully installed.
05:03This is a nice kit.
05:04I like the tailpipes because it's OEM fresh
05:06and it's fully stainless steel.
05:08Now you guys have to remember a few things
05:10when you're doing an exhaust system.
05:11One, make sure you have clearances between the exhaust system
05:14and the body so you have no vibrations.
05:16Then make sure you have a good mounting point.
05:18So I've got four hangers in the back
05:19and the collectors in the front.
05:20That's going to keep everything stable.
05:22And last, don't forget you've got to make it serviceable.
05:24So I had to make custom up pipes very easily
05:27just remove these two clamps, remove the two V-band clamps
05:29and the whole thing can be removed from the vehicle.
05:32Next week, we're going to attack
05:33the Dakota Digital Instrument Cluster.
05:34Sam's Garage is presented by NHOU.
05:50Brought to you by the following companies.
05:52Welcome back to Sam's Garage, presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
06:20From throttle cable headaches to custom drive shafts,
06:33we're buttoning up Vicks Mustang Swap with cooler lines,
06:36shifter mods, and a fresh transmission install.
06:39Plus some pro tips to help make your own engine swap smoother and smarter.
06:44I'm over here trying to figure out how to put these springs onto the throttle cable and bracket
06:50because apparently I lost the one that came off of it.
06:53And then today what we're going to do is install our new drive shaft.
06:55I went to Dwayne from Driveline Service of Atlanta.
06:57He's been making my drive shafts for 25 years.
06:59Made me another one.
07:00He did it in less than 24 hours for me.
07:02And then we're going to go ahead and install the cooler lines and the shifter cable.
07:07The shifter cable being a universal B&M deal that was on a Ford,
07:12but I want to adapt it to a Ford L60s deal.
07:14We don't have to buy a new one.
07:15Okay, so any time you guys are doing an engine swap or a transmission swap in a case where
07:23it's a manual to auto or vice versa, you want to get a new drive shaft and you want to be
07:28able to measure that drive shaft correctly and in most cases you want to measure it from
07:32the seal face to the flange face of the yoke which is half of the U-joint's circle.
07:39Now it's very important that when you guys give that measurement to your drive shaft shop,
07:43you tell them whether the rear end was hanging down or fully in place.
07:48Because when it comes down, the drive shaft comes out of the transmission.
07:52When it's in, it goes in.
07:53So you want to tell them that.
07:57I need to get this guy in here.
08:00The piece that fits is on the Ford.
08:02Well this will work just fine.
08:03I'm going to take this off, shave that down, put a hole through there that fits that guy
08:07right there.
08:08And then we're going to put this on the pan, we're going to put this where it's supposed
08:11to go and that shifter up there should work just fine with the new transmission.
08:15I've got the bracket installed, I have to cut and drill a new hole so I can fit this pan.
08:21And now I'm going to put the cable through.
08:23When you guys are doing this particular job, that you make sure the transmission's in park,
08:27then come out here and do your thing.
08:28As long as you did those two things, your shifter should work no problem.
08:31Now what we're going to do is the transmission cooler lines.
08:34I'm going to go ahead and go to Summit Racing and pick up a couple of the Earl fittings for
08:40the transmission that converts the 4L60 or the 4L80 to a dash 6 hose end.
08:45I made new hoses, got rid of the hard lines that were in the transition from the transmission
08:49to the cooler.
08:50I went ahead and put a 3H union on both sides, putting a period on the cooler lines.
08:56Now I made a hole in the old pan just so I can have a place to put a zip tie so I can
09:00keep the cooler lines snug to the engine.
09:03This will make it to where you guys can service it, you're going to put transmission fluid
09:06in it.
09:07You can always pick a dash 6 easily and pop off your cooler lines, take out the transmission.
09:12Instead of having to go in with a pick, pull out the piece, pull out the retainer clip,
09:15it becomes a bear.
09:17This is a lot better deal.
09:19So if you guys are doing an engine swap in your car, no matter what it is, you just got
09:27to get creative.
09:28You got to figure out what's going to work for you.
09:30Go to Holley.com, like I said, they've got over 70 brands underneath their belt.
09:34They have every kind of part you can imagine to get your project completed.
09:38Whether it be an LS motor, a Hemi, Ford, or even a 2JZ or a Honda motor, those two are
09:43very popular.
09:45Always have been, always will be.
09:47So then you can go out to Holley.com, get whatever you need to do your engine swap, make
09:51it right, go out there and do burnouts the way Vic is going to do in his 66.
09:55You're probably thinking, how did it get like this?
10:00That's because of engine swap.
10:02That's because you're always going back and forth through your toolbox thinking, man, what
10:05do I need next?
10:06And then here you go, bam.
10:07But what I like to do is I like to put everything away at the end of the night so that the next
10:11morning I start fresh.
10:12All right.
10:13So with the Mustang, we've got the powertrain completed, we have the transmission installed,
10:17the cooler lines.
10:18The next thing we're going to do is the exhaust system, button it up, that way we'll get ready
10:21to go ahead and install the ignition system.
10:35We see the vehicles coming in on a regular basis.
10:37A big problem right now is brand new off the showroom floor vehicles come in with major corrosion.
10:44And I don't mean like, I mean surface rust, but stuff that you shouldn't see on the undercarriage
10:49of a vehicle.
10:50And that's the beginning, right?
10:52That's the beginning.
10:53And so if people say they want to use our box wax, great.
10:56Boss wax really isn't designed to go over rust.
10:58It'll displace moisture and oxygen.
11:00When it does, it's creeping.
11:02And it takes about three months before it solidifies and seals.
11:06And so it allows that to pass through.
11:08Then it seals and you're not worried about encapsulation.
11:12Those that have a vehicle that's a few years old, two, three years old, it's got very mild
11:17surface rust, but they're not a candidate for our traditional boss wax because there's
11:22zero penetration and zero creeping.
11:25So with this product, you address that by having the oil in it to soak into the rust first
11:31before the wax solidifies on the surface and cures.
11:34And the boss wax originally you would have put on a new vehicle where it's completely clean,
11:39and that's what you put on and you service it rust free and you service it how often?
11:43Every two years.
11:45Welcome back to Sam's Garage, presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
11:52We're at NHOU, where protecting vehicles is personal.
12:05Joe and Joey aren't just talking products.
12:07They're showing how purpose, relationships, and innovation are driving the future of rust
12:12protection, one dealer at a time.
12:14I am here with Joe and Joey here at NHOU, and this family is all about protecting your investment.
12:21And today, they're showing all the new potential dealers and franchisees all about the new products
12:25from NHOU.
12:26We run our business very different, and for us, our purpose is solving my customers' problems.
12:35And in some cases, partnering with you while you solve your customers' problems, and we
12:40build relationships.
12:41So I'm not going to cover our signature product, which is our NH Oil Undercoding.
12:49And I'll just talk about how things have been evolving.
12:53The reason that they evolve is because we actually consume our own products, and we're close to
12:58the problem.
12:59You know, like the mouse-out, for instance.
13:01You had a customer come in, and he said, hey, I have an RV.
13:04I'd like to put this in my RV, and do you think you could add some peppermint to it?
13:08In other words, the fact that we were close to the problem, and we had that kind of communication
13:12with the customer is what led to mouse-out.
13:17We went from, let's say, a regular oil to vehicles coming back, and we noticed in certain
13:23abrasive areas, like the back of the bumpers, the wheel wells, that the product just didn't
13:27hold up.
13:28No fault of the product, it's like a sandblasting cabinet.
13:31And so, we went back to the chemist and said, what can we do to, you know, extend the life
13:35of that product?
13:36And that's how Wheel Well Guide was born.
13:41I'm gonna show you my F-150, it's a 12, there's another F-150 that's in here, it's a 13.
13:47Never been treated, always been treated, it's night and day.
13:50You can go on to my F-150, and I encourage you to take a little rag and wipe away the
13:55greasy spots around the frame.
13:57It's shiny black metal in most cases.
13:59So that's indicative of you being diligent with your service.
14:03Plus, not all vehicles are the same.
14:05If it's really rusty, a lot of the first coat's gonna soak into the rust, you know?
14:09So you can't do the same thing for every vehicle.
14:11I recommend no matter what product a customer gets, unless it's one of the wax products,
14:16if the vehicle's never been done, at least do it two or three years in a row.
14:20Because that oil will soak in, pieces are gonna start shedding off, they come back, you blow
14:24those pieces off, and eventually get to the point where nothing else is flaking off.
14:31So the last thing I'm gonna cover is an app that we've created.
14:34It's in the beta stage right now.
14:37One of the things that we wanna do with this app is, if you are offering the product, here's
14:44a couple of things that it'll do to help you with transparency.
14:48So somebody comes in, you walk out with your phone, you scan the VIN, automatic reports
14:53to Carfax, which is a good thing, because now you're proactive, right?
14:57It'll report to us.
14:59We're creating a database called Rustfax.
15:01You can check the miles on it, and now it's a permanent record with Carfax, Rustfax, and
15:07the app the customer has access to, and to your records.
15:11That VIN will follow that.
15:13If he sells the vehicle, he can sell the whole package of maintenance.
15:19Which is why, if you do this every year, the resale value actually makes this a money-making
15:24deal.
15:25So all these products that we come up with is just to try to make the service better.
15:30You know, for us, we put people over profits, and so that's the driving force behind anything
15:36that I do.
15:37As carny as it sounds, it's the truth.
15:39I have relationships, there are people here that I've been working with, and we have real
15:43heart-to-heart conversations, like they go much deeper than a business deal.
15:47That's kind of the way we've built our business, it's on relationships.
16:00Sam's Garage is presented by NH Oil Undercoding.
16:05Is brought to you by the following companies.
16:07Welcome back to Sam's Garage, presented by NHOU.
16:29It's Collector Car Appreciation Day in Georgia.
16:41With a 60-mile cruise, over 100 classics, and $10,000 raised for youth programs, we're celebrating
16:48history, horsepower, and heart.
16:50Right here at the Savoy Museum with Summit Racing and the GSRX.
16:54It's that time of the year again, guys, Collector Car Appreciation Day.
16:59I've got David Reiser, the VP of GSRA, and I've got Michael Letters from the Sheriff's
17:03Youth Home.
17:04We are at the Savoy, which is the ending of our cruise that David set up.
17:07And I'm going to have David tell you all about what's going on today.
17:10So today, for the third annual Collector Car Appreciation Day, we started at a barn down
17:14in about 20 miles from here, did a 60-mile cruise through Bartow County.
17:18Tell us about the donation that we have raised here from this event that's going to Michael
17:22and the Sheriff's Youth Home.
17:23So this year, the donations through the sponsors and the registration fees, and also cash donations
17:29today, we're going to be giving them over $10,000 this year.
17:32Couldn't do it without you guys.
17:34I mean, they make everything so easy for me.
17:36It's a hard event to put together.
17:39They've worked for a long time about it.
17:41It all went so smooth.
17:42You could not be more thankful.
17:44Absolutely.
17:45I'm here with Tom Chanel, who's the Director of Development here at the Savoy Automobile
17:50Museum.
17:51He's just one of the many fine people on this staff that makes it possible for us to enjoy
17:56this beautiful museum.
17:57Amen.
17:58You are exactly right there.
17:59It's just part of the team, and it definitely takes a village.
18:01And we are very fortunate to have a group here at Savoy that is able to connect people
18:06to the cultural diversity of the automobile.
18:08That is our mission here at the museum, because it's not about one era, one style, one make
18:14or one model.
18:15It is about automotive history from the very early onset to what's happening today and what's
18:20coming down the road.
18:22And that's what makes you guys so special here at the Savoy.
18:24And you guys, if you're in Cartersville, here in Bartow County, Georgia, please check
18:27out the Savoy Automobile Museum and all their exhibits.
18:30You will not be disappointed.
18:32All right, so the National Collector Car Appreciation Day would not be possible without David Reiser
18:41and the sponsors like Summit Racing.
18:43I'm here with Steve Kester, and he is the head of retail at Summit Racing, correct?
18:46That is correct, Steve.
18:47And a very good friend.
18:48I want to say thank you so much for being a part of this and making it possible for this
18:52to happen.
18:53Tell us about Summit Racing.
18:54Yeah, so Summit Racing, I think everyone in the car industry or the enthusiasts know who
18:58Summit Racing is, but one thing we do try to do the best is to get in and sponsor and be
19:04a part of for the enthusiasts, right?
19:06Like he said, they're a huge part of the car culture here in Georgia and also everywhere
19:11else.
19:12But we're very lucky to have Summit Racing right here in Hampton, Georgia, so I want to
19:15thank you so much, Steve.
19:16Well, you're welcome, Sam.
19:17I'm glad to be a part of it, and thank you to the Georgia Street Ride Association and all
19:22the sponsors involved as well.
19:23Glad to be a part of it.
19:25Another wonderful sponsor of this event is Streetside Classics.
19:31If you guys want an awesome car, a classic that you can really depend on and have trust
19:36in, you go to Streetside Classic and Shaw will take care of you with that purchase.
19:40So we aim to make it as easy as possible to sell and find your next classic car.
19:45I would suggest stopping by.
19:46We've currently got about 275 good ways to lighten your wallet in there.
19:50It is so cool to just even walk through there if you're not buying anything, to see the
19:53cars, to see the classics.
19:55Absolutely.
19:56And one of the things I didn't realize when I first started for Streetside was that we
20:00sell memories, and they get to enjoy the culture and the industry and the enthusiasm just as
20:06much as they wanted to, you know?
20:08Very important.
20:09Thank you, Shaw, very much for being out here, and thank you for Streetside Classic for being
20:12a sponsor.
20:13I'd like to thank the Georgia Street Ride Association for promoting this event and for holding this
20:19event.
20:20I'd also like to thank Mike Leathers and the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes, the Savoy Automobile
20:23Museum for assisting us with having a program here at the Savoy, and to Sam Madhavi of Sam's
20:29Garage and all of his help and support in being the Grand Marshal again this year.
20:38Be sure to check out Sam's Garage on these other media platforms.
20:44Send us questions and feedback to info at samsgaragetv.com.
20:53From bandit builds to community-driven car culture, this episode had it all.
20:58Big thanks to Summit Racing, NHOU, and everyone keeping the spirit of performance alive.
21:04We'll see you next time right here on Sam's Garage.
