00:01Admit it, we all love searching for real estate.
00:04What is it?
00:06That curiosity sparked Zillow Gone Wild,
00:09an inside look at the outrageously wonderful homes on the market.
00:13Enjoy!
00:14I'm Jack McBrayer, and I am back on the hunt to find even wilder,
00:18more outrageous, over-the-top houses on the market
00:22and meet the fascinating people who call these one-of-a-kind places home.
00:27Tell me why you live in garbage!
00:29You're gonna be a handful.
00:33There's also a great little treat in the bathroom.
00:36Gross!
00:37Each week, one home shall be named the wildest of them all.
00:42This is awesome!
00:43So come on, take a peek.
00:45You know you want to.
00:52The desert heat is on in Tucson, Arizona,
00:55where cacti surround southwestern adobe estates
00:58and ranch-style retreats.
01:00But standing out from the crowd is a recently purchased property
01:03that takes the song 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall
01:06to a whole new level.
01:12What in the world?
01:15Jack!
01:21Hello!
01:22You made it!
01:23How are you?
01:24Thank you for having me.
01:25I'm Johanna.
01:26Jack, I'm so excited to see everything!
01:28My name is Johanna, and I own the Bottle House.
01:31I was helping a friend of mine find a new place to live,
01:36and I thought it was really interesting,
01:38and I went to the open house and fell in love,
01:41and this is where I'm at.
01:43Now, how long have you been here?
01:45I bought it about a year ago.
01:46Yeah?
01:47I thought this would be a fun, artsy project to take on.
01:49I love it.
01:50All right.
01:51I cannot wait to get a tour.
01:52We're going this way to the main house.
01:54This way?
01:55We have a main house and a guest house.
01:59Oh, my gosh, look at all this!
02:06Oh, man!
02:09I didn't know what to expect walking inside.
02:11You see all these stones.
02:13Almost looks like the Flintstones.
02:15This is stunning.
02:17They have all these bottles within the walls.
02:20This is clearly where all our recycling goes.
02:23In a house!
02:24So you didn't do all this,
02:26but did you do any of these upgrades to this kitchen,
02:28for example?
02:29Oh, I paint sprayed all the walls.
02:32Oh, yeah?
02:33Made it this kind of fresh, clean look.
02:35New light fixtures, new appliances and countertops.
02:39This is nuts!
02:41Yeah.
02:42I have another room to show you.
02:43Here we go.
02:44Oh!
02:48Welcome to the bathroom.
02:51You got your toilet.
02:52This is your shower?
02:53So this is actually a waterfall here.
02:57And we put in this additional shower head.
03:00It can come out here,
03:01and you can toggle it back over to...
03:06We come this way.
03:11I want to show you something pretty cool, I think.
03:15Oh, man!
03:19Oh, I would just look at this all day.
03:24These walls are like a giant light bright set or something.
03:28This is the main bedroom.
03:32I also have a guest house, which is actually full of bottles.
03:36Needs some work.
03:37So that's the phase two that we're gearing up for.
03:39You had me at bottles.
03:40Let's check it out.
03:41Okay.
03:42All right.
03:43So we're going back through the courtyard.
03:45Mm-hmm.
03:46I mean, even this is cool.
03:48Oh, whoa!
03:49This is bottles.
03:50The original owners, they built this guest house before the main house.
03:54I think they lived in this while they built the other one.
03:56Whoa!
04:00Oh, my.
04:05No way!
04:08So many bottles.
04:10So many bottles.
04:11Bottle.
04:12Bottle.
04:13Bottle.
04:14Bottle.
04:15Bottle.
04:16Bottle.
04:17Bottle.
04:18Bottle.
04:19We're popping bottles in this club.
04:20Bottle.
04:21Bottle.
04:22Bottle.
04:23Bottle.
04:24Bottle.
04:25Bottle.
04:26Bottle.
04:27This is crazy.
04:28Bottle.
04:29Bottle.
04:30Bottle.
04:31Bottle.
04:32Oh, Johanna.
04:33Bottle.
04:34Bottle.
04:35Bottle.
04:36Bottle.
04:37What is this space?
04:38What would you use this for?
04:39We're going to have like a queen or a king size bed here.
04:42And then we'll have like a TV.
04:43Great, great, great.
04:44And this area will be like a kitchen table with chairs and maybe a couple seats.
04:47Gotcha.
04:48Yeah.
04:49Oh, my.
04:50This is another bathroom.
04:53Oh, my gosh.
04:54Yeah, it's pretty funky.
04:56Here and in the main house, you have that kind of detached tank to bowl there.
05:00Look at that.
05:01So many bottles in the bathroom, but I do not feel exposed.
05:06This place just keeps on going.
05:08Sure does.
05:09I love the yard.
05:10I love the landscaping that y'all have done.
05:12Oh, thank you.
05:13Well, hello, the sisters.
05:14Surprise.
05:15Hi.
05:16Hi.
05:17I'm Jen.
05:18Jen, Jack.
05:19I'm Jess.
05:20Jess.
05:21Nice to meet you.
05:22Okay, so y'all have clearly spent a lot of time on this property as well then, yes?
05:25Yes.
05:26It's been fun.
05:27When Johanna told us about the Bottle House, I wasn't too surprised because she's very
05:31artsy.
05:32Sure.
05:33Perfect.
05:34Let's go check it out.
05:35I guess I always have had this kind of artsy outlet, and I haven't had that as much lately
05:40with just a pretty busy career.
05:43And so this is my artsy outlet.
05:46Ladies, this has been so much fun.
05:49Best of luck with everything, and congratulations.
05:52Come visit.
05:53Yes, ma'am.
05:54Bye now.
05:55Bye.
05:56That house gives a whole new meaning to popping bottles.
06:00Using sustainable materials that blend into the surrounding landscape is both impressive
06:05and innovative.
06:06You've got bottles inside, outside, in the walls, in the furniture?
06:11That's top shelf commitment.
06:14A waterfall built into the rocks in one bathroom, and a rock toilet in the other?
06:20It's as wild as it sounds.
06:25I'm headed to Austin, Texas, which is known for its live music, legendary barbecue, and
06:30for keeping things weird.
06:32But not everything iconic is on the ground.
06:35There's one home for sale that lifts everyday living up to the trees.
06:42How high does this thing go?
06:44We're taking the stairs today.
06:49This thing is really up there.
06:57Hello.
06:59Welcome to the tree house.
07:01This thing is huge.
07:04I'm Katie, and I'm the listing agent for the tree house.
07:07So you say tree house?
07:09Yes.
07:10How is there a tree house in the middle of Austin, Texas?
07:13Well, the owner, Cece, designed and built it.
07:16So this used to be raw land.
07:18Okay.
07:19She lived next door, and she used to look up at the hill and just dream of her site
07:23plan and the design.
07:24The owner's not only a designer, she's also a writer.
07:27And she raised her son, and he has left the nest.
07:31So she's selling this house so that she can move on to the next part of her life.
07:35What were some things that were important to Cece as she was designing and creating this space?
07:41Well, she wanted to build something reclaimed and sustainable.
07:45Everything in this house is made of reclaimed materials, including the stairs you walked up on.
07:50They are reclaimed from a downtown high-rise construction site.
07:54The trusses came from a turkey farm.
07:57And the beam here that supports the roof comes from an old barn from the northeast.
08:02And right beneath us is a 20,000-gallon rainwater collection system.
08:07That's a big tank.
08:08Yes.
08:09In fact, she received the five-star Austin Energy Green Building Award, which is very rare and very prestigious.
08:16Perfect.
08:17How do I get in this place?
08:18Come on in.
08:19Oh, cool.
08:21This is really, really big.
08:27I know. You don't expect it from the street.
08:29You do not, but everything's so cool.
08:31I see, like, beans and pipes and everything, yes?
08:34Everything's reclaimed.
08:35Look at that elephant y'all got.
08:38This is awesome.
08:40As you're walking through, you see all repurposed and reused material.
08:45So we're talking about the building materials, the furniture.
08:48We're talking about decor.
08:50It's all kind of eclectic stuff, but it comes together in this very fun, very comfortable space.
08:57Here is her original design.
08:59She sketched it on a napkin.
09:01No way.
09:02So this right here is that wall, and then this here is that wall, and then this right here is the roof line.
09:09How did she know how to do this?
09:11I don't know. She dreamed it up.
09:13Cece has wonderful vision, and she made it all come to life.
09:17Thank you, napkin.
09:19Clearly everything here has a story.
09:22And I see this beautiful spiral staircase.
09:26I'm assuming that this is also reclaimed from somewhere, yeah?
09:29Absolutely.
09:30It comes from an old submarine.
09:32No way.
09:33Way.
09:34Did you know that submarines had more than one floor?
09:37I learned it today.
09:39Are these just to let more light in?
09:41What is that?
09:42Yes, these are jars from the 1920s, you know, like from the barber shops?
09:47Sure, of course.
09:48Yes.
09:49And I cannot help but notice this ginormous bathtub in the hall.
09:55I'm on in.
09:58Don't mind if I do.
10:01This bad boy is 100% copper.
10:03Well, and it's a gorgeous bathtub and stuff, but I don't see the rest of the bathroom.
10:08Yes, one might ask, why is there a bathtub in the hallway?
10:12It's right next to this window so that you get the tree canopy and the natural light.
10:16So you're kind of one with nature.
10:17I love it.
10:18Yeah.
10:19There's a toilet here though, right?
10:20Of course.
10:21This is fantastic.
10:23What's in here?
10:24This is the primary bedroom.
10:28This is the rest of the bathroom, yes.
10:30So that sink is a vintage Victorian baby bath.
10:34No way.
10:35Below it is an industrial antique sugar container.
10:39Oh my gosh, she is so creative.
10:42Oh my gosh, I'm seeing these windows out here.
10:45Yes, these windows came from an old warehouse in Brooklyn.
10:48She has a good eye for this.
10:51Oh, very impressive.
10:53On top of the fact, it feels like we are literally out in the trees and I see all this nature here.
10:58This is nice.
11:05Oh my.
11:07What?
11:13It is green, it is lush, it is private, but I see Austin, Texas right there.
11:19You see downtown, you see all the high rises.
11:22The location is everything, location, location, location.
11:25It's very rare to have a downtown view from a residential property and that's why she built it in the back and up on the hill was to capture those views.
11:34We have a little owl house right here.
11:37It's the little baby owls.
11:38Oh my gosh.
11:39But there's nothing in there now.
11:41Stop it.
11:45There's birds everywhere.
11:48Katie, thank you so much for the tour.
11:49This has been a wonderful afternoon.
11:51You're welcome.
11:52Best of luck with your upcoming open house.
11:54Sounds good.
11:55Can treetop treasure be the king of the wildest homes?
12:00A curved structure built among the trees is truly unconventional and brings a childhood dream to life.
12:08From salvaged barn wood to a Victorian baby bath sink, the commitment to sustainable and repurposed materials defines the entire design.
12:18I mean, the house already got an award for it.
12:21But what's extra wild is that this serene treetop escape is perched just minutes from the bustling city.
12:30And now there's an open house at treetop treasure.
12:33Will a potential buyer make this their home sweet tree home?
12:37We've actually been tracking this house since before it was listed.
12:40I know, I think it's been like three years now.
12:42This is just insane.
12:43When you're listing a home this unique, it's really hard to translate on paper.
12:47So it's really important to get people through the door.
12:49Wow.
12:50These doors are magnificent.
12:53These are from Paris from the 1920s.
12:56She didn't want to build a cookie cutter home.
12:58She wanted to build something sustainable and show people in Austin that sustainability is possible.
13:02Totally.
13:03People who are interested in a home this unique are usually people in the creative space.
13:07You can definitely use that space better.
13:09I feel like there's a lot of space that's not really utilized.
13:12Yeah.
13:13The ability of what you can build out here.
13:15Yeah, definitely a wellness deck.
13:17The most common feedback is everybody just loves the privacy and the vibes.
13:22That's what I like about how elevated it is up here is that you're just seeing green and then the skyline.
13:28We'll find out if someone snapped up the tree house a little later.
13:32From Texas, the winds have carried me to Philadelphia, home of the Liberty Bell, hoagies, and many houses all in a row, which are a quintessential part of the city's landscape.
13:42What's not so common is a home on the market downtown that combines three historic structures into a rare type of dwelling.
13:49Philadelphia.
13:50Philadelphia.
13:51We got a townhouse here.
13:52And...
13:53I don't know what this is.
13:54Hello?
13:55Is this legal?
13:56Hello?
13:57Is this legal?
13:59Hello?
14:00Hello?
14:01I don't know what this is.
14:02Hello?
14:03I don't know what this is.
14:04Hello?
14:05I don't know what this is.
14:06Hello, sir.
14:07Hello.
14:08Nice to meet you, Jack.
14:09How are you?
14:10I'm happy to be here.
14:15My name is Bob and I live in a historic home in downtown Philadelphia.
14:21Hi.
14:22Hi.
14:23I'm Kristin, a real estate agent.
14:24Of course.
14:25Nice to meet you, Jack.
14:26I'm happy to be here.
14:27My name is Bob and I live in a historic home in downtown Philadelphia.
14:30Hi.
14:31Kristen Jack.
14:32I'm Kristin, a real estate agent.
14:33Nice to meet you.
14:34Of course.
14:35I'm Kristen, a real estate agent.
14:36Of course.
14:37Nice to meet you.
14:38Is this all one giant house?
14:40Well, in the 1800s, there's actually
14:41three separate buildings.
14:43That building there was the blacksmith shop.
14:46And now it's the two-car garage.
14:48And to the left here is what we call the Victorian house,
14:52where the family lived.
14:53And then here's the two-story stone barn,
14:56where the horses lived.
14:57And then in the 70s, the gentleman
15:00that bought the place, famous heart surgeon Ron Panach,
15:03built it into its current form, and connected the stone barn
15:07with the Victorian house.
15:10This looks amazing.
15:11These three very old structures come together
15:14to make this incredible property.
15:16And guess what?
15:16It all looks good now.
15:18I'm sure it looked good back there.
15:20The yard itself is 7,000 square feet, with two-car parking.
15:23I was about to say, I mean, we're
15:24kind of in the middle of Philadelphia.
15:25We're in the middle of the city.
15:26So that is unheard of.
15:28Yeah.
15:29Amazing.
15:30There's so many people that live in the neighborhood
15:32that don't know what's behind this 20-foot wall.
15:34When they realize that there's a huge yard
15:37and several more buildings, they're rather shocked.
15:39Here we go.
15:42Oh.
15:45To the right here is the entrance to the Victorian house,
15:48where the family used to live in the 1800s.
15:52All right.
15:53Going down this way.
15:56This way.
15:58I can't really figure out the footprint of the house.
16:00I am following a hallway.
16:02I see a kitchen to my right.
16:04This house is like a maze.
16:07Oh.
16:08This is a fancy room, Bob.
16:11Yeah, it's a sitting room now.
16:12But it used to be the office of the blacksmith,
16:15because this is his original desk from the 1800s.
16:18No.
16:18Yeah.
16:19Would you take this with you?
16:20No.
16:21It's original to the house, so I wouldn't take it.
16:25Let's go back the way we came, and then we'll
16:26take you into the stone barn area.
16:29Let's do it.
16:37Oh, look at this atrium.
16:40This would be the exterior of the barn?
16:43Of the barn, yes.
16:45The glass atrium part was added on in the 70s.
16:48The stones are original.
16:50Instead of concrete in between each stone, it was mud.
16:53And the owner from the 70s paid a mason to remove the mud
16:58and put concrete in.
16:59Uh-oh.
17:00And it took him four years, and then the mason died.
17:04So at least he finished the job.
17:06All about that, it would probably kill me, too.
17:08Yeah.
17:09And I can't help but notice this passage
17:12into the biggest fireplace I have ever seen not owned
17:17by a viking.
17:18This is wild.
17:19That used to be the original fireplace from the 1800s,
17:22and I just had it resurfaced.
17:24Whoa.
17:26Is this a sunken living room?
17:28It is, yeah.
17:28It is?
17:29I don't know what that.
17:29With a custom sofa to fit perfectly.
17:31I can't believe this barn is so exquisite.
17:34Horses used to poop here, Bob.
17:36Now I do.
17:41Oh, Bob.
17:43Let's go to the second floor.
17:45Second floor of the barn, coming up.
17:50Oh, my gosh.
17:52What is this place?
17:54This is stupid.
17:56Bob.
17:58Bob.
17:59Oh, Bob.
18:01I love that it maintains some 70s feel to it.
18:04Right, yeah.
18:05I kept the layout the same.
18:06I just kind of modernized it and updated
18:09the woodwork and things.
18:10And I love that we can see right out into the atrium.
18:13Yeah, and there's a balcony that two people can sit.
18:16There's also a great little treat in the bathroom.
18:19Gross.
18:22Oh, whoa.
18:25Good gravy.
18:27And it just is open into the bedroom.
18:30This is a custom kitchen, so you have coffee here.
18:33Oh, my gosh.
18:34Feel free to open the drawers.
18:35Sub-Zero refrigerator, freezer below,
18:37and a dishwasher on the other side of you.
18:39Are you kidding?
18:40A dishwasher?
18:41A full dishwasher, yeah.
18:44For all your bathtub dishes.
18:47A friend of mine said,
18:48well, why do you put a kitchen in the bathroom
18:50in order to get a cup of coffee in the kitchen
18:52and have to take the subway?
18:54You're right.
18:56Oh, that's a slip.
18:57Because there is such a maze of, you know.
18:59That is so smart.
19:00What is inspiring you to get out of here?
19:03Just looking to downsize.
19:05I'm basically retired, so I just don't want all the extra responsibility.
19:12Kristen, who do you envision as being a perfect buyer?
19:15I think the ideal buyer to me is a couple.
19:18The other bedrooms are in the other side of the house,
19:20in the Victorian side,
19:21which is a little far if the kids are young,
19:23and definitely someone who likes to entertain.
19:25This is a find.
19:27I hope that whoever buys it next
19:30maintains some of the history
19:32that Bob has held onto as he's lived there.
19:34I wish you the best of luck with the sound.
19:36Thank you very much.
19:37All right.
19:38So y'all take care. Thank you so much.
19:39Take care.
19:40Will this residence from the 1800s
19:42stand the test of time
19:44and claim the title of wildest home?
19:47Encasing a Civil War-era barn in 1970s glass
19:51and melding with a Victorian residence
19:54is an exercise in originality.
19:57The commitment to preserving history
19:58is seen in each space,
20:00down to the furniture, fireplaces, and even the stone.
20:04And the kitchen and bathroom definitely
20:06serves up wild points with a side of...
20:08Wait, what?
20:12I'm on the edge of my seat
20:14to see which home will win this group's plaque.
20:17But first, let's get some updates
20:19on our current listings.
20:20Treetop Treasure and Maze Manor
20:22haven't found their perfect match yet,
20:24but both are still in search of the right buyer.
20:27Time to name our wildest of our three homes.
20:30From a bottle bonanza
20:33to a treetop oasis
20:35to an 1800s restoration,
20:37these three homes are nothing short of wild.
20:41But only one can take the win.
20:43And the winner is...
20:45Jack!
20:48Bottled Up!
20:49Johanna!
20:50Hi, Jack!
20:51Now, I sent you a little something in the mail,

20:55Hey! Check it out!
20:58This bottle-built beauty shimmers with color and creativity,
21:01all while proving recycling isn't just responsible,
21:04it's ridiculously cool.
21:06It makes this feel all worthwhile.
21:08Now you have a real reason to pop some bottles.
21:12But there's always more wild to see.
21:16Take a look behind the pillows back there, Jack.
21:18There's a cat back there!
21:19Domes are typically half domes or five ace domes.
21:21It does require a lot of matches to keep up on the tour.
